The guitar lineup through this era of Skynyrd is so underrated. Rossington, Medlocke, and Thomasson were all incredible guitarists. The best guitar lineup they ever had since the original band
@@duurnamets9678 I'm a really Skynyrd fan and I don't forget anyone.... We're talking about the full line-up, Maybe he would have been better with Ed King instead of Huggie Thomasson, but that never happened.... And i love Ed King ! Like Allen and Steve, and Gary gone to join them....
We were there Pittsburgh,Pa...do you remember a White Econoline Van..autographs on the inside walls of the van...?? .....the beer was cold..the girls were hot as the night....we were dancing fools ...by the light of the moon... FREEBIRD
This was the best line up that they had since the tribute tour. Hughey was a great fit in here and Gary carrying the leads on most of the old songs sounds so much like the old band.
Yea. Them are the best of the best southern rockers.. seen them 5 times live back in the days. We love them and their music. Still today. Here in the south. COLUMBIA ...SOUTH CAROLINA... 🎸
Lynyrd Skynyrd, one of our greatest rock bands. I loved them. Got to see them . A friend of mine was their back up singer, she did not get on the plane, what a sad day that was!! She passed away later in 2005? ROCK ON Forevermore RIP ❤️ 🙏The only good thing that comes out of Alabama is its music 🎶 🎵
You do know that the original lineup of LS was from Jacksonville, Fla, no? Having spent tme in college inside Alabama, I can't really dispute your statement. But Muscle Shoals has the "Swampers".
@@stephanielawson706 Steve Gaines made the band better, Ronnie said that..I used to see Steve play with Crawdad, Manalive, look that up and the Ranch..Okie is not a bad name anymore. Steve and Cassie Gaines ❤
Absolute Gary was always my Lynyrd Skynyrd guitarist and also a great guy i will miss them all originals dead and more members only Artimus Pyle isn't dead
I was there that night, even saw me a couple of times on the DVD, Lyve from steeltown. It was a fantastic show. Started with Paul Rogers opening, and singing all of his classic songs! What a night!
I seen them in Florida about 5 years ago at the Jacksonville stadium, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Charlie Daniels, kid Rock, Jason Aldean, George Jones, exc.in the same night, best concert I've ever been to fireworks after the show
Always loved this band ever since first hearing "Free Bird" on a FM station. As great as Ed King, Allen Collins, Steve Gaines and even Hughie Thomasson were, to me it was the playing of Gary Rossington (the little licks, fills, melodies and slide playing) that gave LS that special unique southern rock sound. Oh, and having Billy Powell as their secret weapon sure didn't hurt either. Hope they keep rockin' forever!!!
Billy had really short fingers for a piano player... so he developed his own style. That style, and the immense POWER he had in those finger... really made him as much a part of the Skynyrd sound as the triple guitars. He loved the music so much, he played right up until he died. Supposedly of a heart attack, but the injuries he sustained from the accident was also a factor.

Wish I could have been there with y'all, was a great night to see and be with some of the original members and even the new guys. They sound great almost like the first and foremost, Ronnie is directing from above.
This is their best lineup since the reunion tour. Twenty the album they were supporting on this tour is one of their best albums. No matter the lineup they always give their best & as long as Gary is there on guitar & there is a VanZant on vocals it's still Skynyrd. Like the Stones said It's only Rock n Roll".

They put on the best concert, I remember when plane went down, I was little, old enough to know, it was bad, but so glad Johnny took over, I'm sure his brother is glad his music is living on thru his brother, I can't count how many times I've seen them last time got cancelled, but there doing farewell tour, oh I wish they would keep playing but greatful for what we had/have YOU GUYS ARE THE BEST.... SURE DON'T MAKE MUSIC LIKE THIS ANYMORE, YOUR THE BEST ALWAYS, NEVER WILL BE FORGOTTEN...
They are the best, sure don't make music like this these days, last time I saw them Gary was so much older that year he had his heart attack this kit was 2015, YOUR RIGHT THEY ARE AWESOME!
Thank you for posting… my uncle on drums here…still one of his most solid performances he’s done in my opinion, next to Reba’s 1999 live by request. 🔥🔥
I always thought Owen was a great fit for this band. Loved what he did on the “20” album and he is just solid as a rock on this Live recording. Skynyrd was lucky to have him!
This is one of the best "in tact" bands from the 70's against all the odds. I saw the first tour on the "reunion" in Hartford years ago. Music is a journey, and these folks have done it right. This is pure gold! Great music - great musicians!
You are a liar, Mr. Joe cool!!! You werent there because skynyrd didnt play in Hartford AT ALL during the tribute tour...lying ASSHOLE! Lmao i love catching you blowhard assholes in lies when ur trying to sound so cool and hip with ur fake stories of "back in the day" lmao!!! Have a wonderful day shithead!
@@bls8959 As Skynyrd would say, don't like it... then go the F away. The were the most "in tact" (learn what the quotation marks mean) 70's country rock band or rock band that was still touring. Most of them, the ONLY thing original is the name, cause there are NO original member period. At least these guys knew when to wrap it up. When the last original member passed, that was it. They did the "farewell" tour. And, at each venue (at least the three I went to down here where they really mattered), they said (paraphrased) thanks for letting us keep the music alive. "We know we ain't shit compared to the original" (actual quote), but we tried to play what they played the best we could in honor of them, and tried to be as true to their memory as we could. Now, all the original members of Skynyrd are together in heaven kickin' ass again. So thanks for the ride, and keep their memory alive.
The original is the original and the latter was is what it is but this lineup was a true powerhouse and to me maybe the best in terms of musical tightness. I know everybody loves the original but this was my first Skynyrd album and man it still rocks like nothing else.
Melissa B Probably the best drummer in the Skynyrd time line, the current drummer Michael Cartellone is good also.... Pyle was talented but don’t think he would have lasted very long as he didn’t make it with the survivors
@@jefferyfloyd4693 Sorry but you missed the boat on your prognosis about Artimus Pyle. His band (the Artimus Pyle Band) has been steadily playing for over 20 years now. I've seen them 4 x over the past 5 yrs. The two guitarists lead by Scott Raines are as good as they come. Aritimus is still behind the riser at 75. Not as powerful but who is at 75? I don't think he'll play too much longer but his son could take over. Artimus fell out of favor with Judy and Gary. Bad blood kept him from playing in the resurrection band. No problem. He rocks on his own.
This version of free bird is the best I've ever heard it. Some say Gary is faking the guitar part but I highly doubt it. I saw them live that year, a great performance and Gary's guitar part sounds the exact same
That Smell... They had all been there. The emotion in Billy's face. Ronnie was clean in the end. "If ya can't drink it or smoke it I don't f*ckin need it!" he said. I've smelled it. The Angel of Death. Waiting.
@@jaysgaming3797 Not anymore. The last of the original Freebirds has flown free. Gary survived a car crash that could have killed him and of course, that fatal plane crash. The man had more lives than a cat. Those guys were my age. It's tough watching a part of your life disappear but the memories are irreplaceable. Gotta be thankful for that.
Listened to this CD over and over again as a child when my father bought it. Becoming an adult my music taste has gone over to death metal and i think this heavy with blues music had a great impact on that way.

Saw the Band in 75, July 4th for 1.99 cents. @ Rickwood Field in Birmingham Alabama. 14 years old at the time, no other concert has been better! Seen them several times since and even jammed with Buzzy Meekins who played Bass with em for a while. He also played with Danny Joe Brown and Molly Hatchett. Love me some Southern Rock!
As a collegiant, I played baseball at Rickwood Field in '70. . The college I attended was only a couple miles away. We often walked to the field. It was a dump then. Amazingly, it's still standing and occasionally used. It's still a dump. I can only imagine what the sound was like in '72, I got to see that lineup (with replacement drummer Artimus Pyle for Bob Burns) in Atlanta in '76. . .one year before that tragic plane crash. Paid $5 for a ticket at the old Omni downtown. Those were the days.
One band that I would of loved to of seen ! Pretty sure that never played in Australia if so must of been having a great old time myself kick ass band with piano ...
why do they put "translate to English". People must be really ignorant if they can't work it out uless they are Hindi or Vietnamese in which case they wouldn't know about Skynyrd
Awesome is an understatement, love old and new. Sometimes you guys make my face leak (in a good way)! Keep up the good ROCK! Miss you Ronnie and all we lost with you. RIP See you in Rock Heaven! Thank all of You!!! from "Full Thottle"
RIP Gary Rossington! 1997, such a great lineup! Having Hughie doing the Ed King/Steve Gaines parts was masterful. Skynard has never and will never replicate. Time to retire the band and move into Rock and Roll heaven as one of the greatest.....
Here be the lineup--- Johnny Van Zant: vocals Gary Rossington: lead and rhythm guitars, slide guitar Rickey Medlocke: lead and rhythm guitars, slide guitar, acoustic guitar, back vocals, vocals with Johnny Van Zant on “You Got That Right” Hughie Thomasson: lead and rhythm guitars, slide guitar, acoustic guitar, back vocals Billy Powell: piano, organ Leon Wilkeson: bass, back vocals Owen Hale: drums, percussion Dale Krantz-Rossington: back vocals Carol Chase: back vocals
Sure miss Billy. Johnny had his own way. Glad he did it in his own fashion. Girls were great. I'll never forget the originals, but it's time to move ahead.
Holy shit. Where have you been? You've been hiding out since the 70's. Greatest rock guitarist I've ever listened to. I am star struck. Please come out of hiding....Please!!!!
I would love to see our band sing and play the oringal but we as fans also have let them play what l say is the Johnny Van Zant area music SKYRYND NATION SET THEM FREE AND ROCK US
You're right. There are 3 other videos of this show playing Sweet Home Alabama but it sounded like they're in mono. It's like this is the one and only Sweet Home Alabama Steel Town performance that's in stereo.
