A very good time to live in. I'm 63 now and i love all the memories from that time like Lynyrd Skynyrd and all the other bands from the 60 & 70 &80 i have seen.

I was born in 1971, these years were the most meaningful, most simple, most memorable years of my life, family, friends, music, from the greatest era along with the 80's ever. I was a 70's kid and life was good..best days of my life..trucking all over the country listening to bands..but 80's, 90's and early 21st century was cool as well..after 911..life changed and the road gets hard so enjoy your lives when your young kids :)
Simple Man" epitomized Ronnie Van Zant, who enjoyed friends, family, and a good time far more than anything money could buy. He held true to these values even after he found fame. Van Zant died in the 1977 plane crash that also claimed the lives of Skynyrd guitarist Steve Gaines and backup singer Cassie Gaines (brother and sister). When the band reunited and toured in 1987, they dedicated this song to him. Even though the lyrics state, "Sit beside me, my only son," Ronnie was not the only son. He had two younger brothers along with one older sister and one younger sister. Those younger brothers are Donnie, who formed and fronted .38 Special; and Johnny, who took over as Skynyrd’s frontman after Ronnie's death.
I've used this song as a tool, to express my love for my son, while he battled through his addiction...it's been along 16 years!!! He got it!! I want nothing but for him to be happy! Thanks for putting in words for us!

I saw the tribute tour in Jacksonville Florida. I've never seen anything like it. The whole crowd cried through the entire concert. It was an honor to have been there.
Graduated from HS in 71'. Went to Soooo many concerts in the day. I married a Rocker guy in 82' He turned me on tooooo so many groups . We went to many concerts. I so miss those days. 😢😢. This song is on my " ring tone".

Not my generation but I've loved this song since I first heard it long ago. Shinedown re-did it pretty well however Skynyrd is just the master of this wonderful piece!

Damn he has a powerful and beautiful voice just like his brother did!! Perfect choice to continue the legacy! Skynyrd is a amazing and sad to loose members to the crash, but just like ACDC, they they came back stronger than ever!! I love stories like that, were they hit rock bottom by a tragedy but then they rise up again and become bigger and stronger than ever before! Acdc went thru the Death of Bon Scott in 1980, they came back with Back in Black, Skynyrd did the same and ohh what a beautiful testimony it is to see them live, performing like they just formed the band!! One of the best bands I tell ya!!
Musically, Skynyrd was still so good and so tight when they toured behind the Tribute Tour 10 years after the plane crash. Ed King & Gary Rossington's guitar work together here on Simple Man in 1987 was amazing.

Oh man.. all death this band has encountered.. It's truly amazing it still exists (even with just this one original member, a lot of the others has some deep connection with the earlier band set-ups aswell). Gotta love them!

For those interested, there are 5 pre crash members in this video. Gary Rossington (black hat), Ed King (jump suit), Leon Wilkeson (bass), Artimus Pyle (drums) and Billy Powell (keyboards). Randall Hall on other guitar was hand picked by the paralyzed Allen Collins to take his place. Johnny Van Zant (Ronnie's brother) singing.
