Kel n Rich, I can tell you a lot about the members of Lynyrd Skynyrd because I use to play with them. But this is the first time I have heard of Shinedown's version of Simple Man. It brought tears to my eyes and memories of these old friends of mine came flooding back. I have a new favorite band. Thank-You Kel n Rich for bringing this to my attention. God Bless you all. :-)
you probably dont care but does anybody know of a trick to get back into an Instagram account?? I was stupid forgot the password. I would love any tips you can give me.
@jumpoff A - their guitarist at the time was dating Ronnie Van Zant's granddaughter and they used to perform this at the Van Zant's club in Florida at their behest.
You two are perfect for each other, it's so obvious the way Kel looks at you Rich. Love your reactions guys, you are both so passionate about the music you listen to and its refreshing
Hi Kel and Rich. My Brother and I recently went to see Skynyrd at Birmingham UK 30th June 2019 to celebrate my 60th Birthday. We are both life long fans. And we thought it would be a great idea to take our Mother, she is 85. She loves music of all genres but had never been to a full on rock concert. She is not a total stranger to rock music as both her growing teenage sons would often fill the house with heavy loud music from the stereo record player or electric guitars, she never complained. Lynyrd Skynyrd played Simple Man that evening and it was very emotional singing along to this classic with our Mother stood between us. A very lovely moment.
Hearing shinedown play this song live, and hearing the crowd sing along, is such a great experience to witness and it’s by far one of my favorite cover songs out there. I went to the Rockville show this year when they played that song live. It was awesome hearing it live.
@@chasedean8584 OK... There's always one that will nitpick every word. In that case you are wrong, too. Brent Smith is ONE of the artists along with Barry Kerch , Zach Myers, and Eric Bass. Is that sufficient? Or did you not approve of my Oxford comma?
Shinedown is insane . one of the best new bands in the last 20 years every single they come out with becomes a huge hit for them they kick all forms of ass . bret,s got a major voice and there playing is crazy good love these guys
Shinedown was one of my favorite bands in high school and it was THIS cover of 'Simple Man' that hooked me. I can confidently recommend 'Burning Bright' if you guys want another great one from their first album. By the way I really enjoy your reactions!
I am a forever loyal Skynyrd fan, saw them live twice in 76 and 77 but that's an awesome cover of Simple Man! That dude has a great voice. What a set of pipes!
Probably seen your reaction to this song about 5 6 times now and absolutely enjoyed your reactions which matched my own. A great song and a beautiful and awesome cover of it. Thanks for this.
Thanks for watching with us and coming back for more Ian! That’s wonderful. We had such a great time with these. Can’t wait to turn the lights back onto our show. Much love, KnR 💪🏼🤘😎❤️🐾🐾🐾
I saw Shinedown with Godsmack this past September and they were phenomenal! I was there for Godsmack, but came out a huge fan of Shinedown as well! Love your reactions!! Keep em comin!!!
I love the original but Shinedown is an amazing band. Saw them for the 1st time 2 years ago and they blew my mind. Amazing cover by them and gave me chills!! Love your reaction, priceless!! It was a picture of him!!
Kel n Rich, I found this and thought that I would share it with you all. The author and newspaper is credited. I hope you like this since they are a local band. :-) Dave Osborn, Naples Daily News Feb 11, 2019 Shinedown - which formed in Jacksonville 2001 - perform Feb. 20 at Hertz before heading north to South Carolina, Tennessee and other states and Canada. The ends in late July in Washington state. The tour comes nearly a year after Shinedown dropped its sixth album "Attention, Attention," a concept album, with hits including "Devil" and "Get Up." “Our fans are familiar with our new songs and we may need to put some new songs into our set," Kerch said in a recent telephone interview. Kerch's musical journey began in Pensacola, where he grew up.Lead singer Brent Smith is from Knoxville but was in Jacksonville and wanted to form a band, he said. The other members are guitar Zach Myers, a Memphis native, and bassist Eric Bass, originally from Charleston, South Carolina. Kerch began playing drums at age 7 and his grandmother, who saw something in him."Her brother was a jazz drummer in the Chicago area," he said. "I never knew him. She said I reminded her of him." He practiced on a simple drum and his family told him, if he learned the basics, they would buy him a drum set - which they did when he turned 11. “I’ve been hooked ever since," he said. Since helping to form Shinedown, Kerch said, he's heard others try to label the band's sound from post-grunge to even Southern rock. Shinedown is a Southern rock band but their sound definitely is not considered Southern rock, with no disrespect meant whatsoever, Kerch said. "I'm a fan of Southern rock," he said "It's something we grew up with and it's in our DNA. "Shinedown joins many of those Southern rockers who formed in Jacksonville, most notably Lynyrd Skynyrd, the Allman Brothers Band, Molly Hatchet and .38 Special. Shinedown a few years ago as a tribute to Lynyrd Skynyrd recorded its version and a video of that band's song "Simple Man," which has nearly 90 million views on RU-vid. Other music that influenced him growing up varied from Iron Maiden to Phil Collins to The Police, he said.“I’m a fan of all music. If it’s good music, it’s good music," Kerch said. "As far as Jacksonville and Florida are concerned, there’s a deep legacy.” And Shinedown has lasted nearly two decades for a simple fact, Kerch said: "We still like each other." Shinedown has remained popular for various reason, including the unique sound of Smith's voice and songs that resonate with people. "None of our songs are BS. As a listener, people are able to relate to it. It’s not put on, it’s not fake; those songs are us. It’s a snapshot of who we are. “We’re just a straight ahead rock and roll band.” Heading out on a 55-city tour may mean the band has reached the rock mountain top but Kerch doesn't see it that way. “We're really working hard. We never rest on our laurels," he said. "Still to this day we have had good success but we don’t feel we have made it. We always want to achieve new levels and keep growing the brand.” And he wants fans to leave their concerts better than when they arrived. “They spend time with us and it’s our duty as entertainers to give them the best we can," Kerch said. “I hope that they're able to let their day go, whatever is going on in their life, good or bad. We want people to be empowered and leave there going, not only did I have a good time, but they got rid of their daily problems, that they went to a rock show and left feeling great.”
My Hometown boys ..!!! Both bands, Skynyrd and Shinedown ..BOTH FROM JACKSONVILLE .!!...Shinedown showed the respect Skynyrd and Ronnie deserved ..well done
You need to hear Shinedowns version of Simple Man the " In my house " version, He sings it just with an acoustic guitar in someones house, really good!
The Skynyrd version was a real classic and in my opinion better, don't get me wrong the Shinedown version was awesome, and the vocals were great, but the original version is more in line with a mother speaking to a son. With the soft, mellow and smooth tones......I may be a old man and used to the original, but that is my opinion.
Some of my Shinedown favorites, in no particular order: Heros, What a Shame, Bully, State of my Head, Enemies, If you only Knew, Cut the Cord, Diamond Eyes, Monsters, Sound of Madness, 45...
First of all... I just started watching your reaction videos and... You two are probably now two of my favorite people. You're so kind, compassionate and caring and you have such a genuine reaction to both emotional songs and videos as well as just... Raw talent when it comes to musicians and I can respect the HELL out of that. I've been a LONG TIME fan of Shinedown and there aren't enough people out there who do reaction videos to this song and have a reaction as powerful as yours is (it's very similar to the reaction I had when I first heard it). Growing up, Simple Man by Skynyrd was my favorite song. Hands down. And then having this cover of it came out just took the cake for me. I only recently had the chance to see Shinedown in concert for the first time, seeing as they hadn't been to Canada in over 6 years and let me tell you... There's NOTHING like standing in the crowd and listening to them perform this song. NOTHING. Thank you guys SO much for your raw and real reaction to this. You guys ROCK.
My oldest brother passed away on mother's Day of this year. This song had several meanings to me personally, after it was played at his funeral now I only have one connection to this song.
love the song love LYNYRD SKYNYRD The great Ronnie Van Zant one of the best singer songwriters ever R.I.P. Mister i have practiced a lot on LS songs as a drummer
Had an almost identical conversation with my grandma( raised in the Southern US, like Lynyrd Skynyrd) this song depicts, a tearjerker, Ronnie Van Zant could evoke emotion like few can. But the Shinedown cover is 99% as good. Great reactions, thanks for your site.
Hello, I must say I am very sorry the loss of your son... I am new to your channel and seriously love you guys. My 14 year old son is now Cancer free thank you lord to the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota. Thank you to you both for being who who you are and being strong. :)
The lead singer is Brent Smith and he's got an amazing voice and great control. They are a great group with some amazing songs. I've seen them live a few times and they are just as good live. Also, like everyone else has mentioned, you should do 45.
I saw Shinedown with Van Halen in SLC they blew me away. Also, Eddie Van Halen had his 15 yr old son at the time come out on stage and finish his guitar solo...man oh man!!!
The thing is that's not a fluke with Shinedown. I've seen them live like 10 times and the lead singer Brent sounds just as good live like spot on! He has been truly gifted with the most amazing vocals!!!!
so jealous of Kel being able to listen to it for the first time! such a beautiful song, great reaction guys. so sad we lost those great musicians. one of the coolest vocalists ever.
Hey hey thanks for the shout out guys. Glad you both enjoyed the recommendation of Simple man. This has been a highly debated topic of which version is best but for me it has to be Shinedown all day long. Brent's vocals are exceptional, so yh please go and check out more Shinedown. Somewhere in the stratosphere live DVD is a good place to start. 👍👍👍
Brent Smith from Shinedown is a phenomenal singer. They are one of my favourite bands, they are touring over here in UK with Alter Bridge in December. You need to check out more of them. I recommend 45, Fly From The Inside, I Dare You or Second Chance
Love the way he sings this. I was personally pissed when I heard someone was covering this and waited 2 years to even listen. I was surprised when I was actually impressed but I still have to stay with the original and sprinkle this in occasionally. I’m from the South so I love to hear the twang in the voice and guitar in the original. But props to Shinedown.
I saw Shinedown a few weeks ago. I was needing with a cane & up front. At the time, Zach the guitarist gave me his wrist band, the bassist, Eric gave me a pic & the drummer Barry gave me a drum stick. Great guys! handed me a drumstick.
Shinedown's Brent Smith is one of the greatest vocalists and songwriters ever. Have seen them live twice and they blow me away. An Alter Bridge and Shinedown show would be epic guys.
Shinedown is easily one of my favorite groups. I've seen them live a dozen times. It's been great to see them evolve musically. You should check out the track "How Did You Love". They don't even look or sound like the same group. If you ever get a chance to see them DO IT!
Hi guys been watching you for a while now,big shinedown fan here from scotland.also love kiss and ghost and a small band from the uk called the wildhearts, keep rocking guys 🤘🤘🤘
Did you know that both Skynyrd and Shindown came from the same place, Jacksonville Florida. When Skynyrd came back in the mid 80s to the present day, it was Ronnie's younger brother who took over the vocals. I believe that their other brother was singer for 38 Special, another great band.
You are correct. In the Shinedown video that is a picture of Ronnie, circa the time he wrote this track. It is being held by his Granddaughter, who's mother, Melody Van Zant (Ronnie's Daughter), is married to Shinedown's guitarist Jasin Todd.
I first heard of Shinedown when they had a concert in my town, never heard of em but not many bands come here so I went. It was pretty good and I listen to them here and there since.
This is one of the few times when a cover, in my opinion, outshines the original and i am a big fam of Lynyrd Skynyrd. This song opened me up to Shinedown, Brent Smith has awesome vocal range.
Shinedown 45, everything from sound of madness, Burning Bright, Fly From the Inside, Heroes, Save Me. Literally all of these are super amazing. You should honestly binge/livestream this band.
This song gets me all VERKLEMPT. I'm pretty sure I requested it on your yt community link, not knowing about your website. Anyway, Southern Rock is the best!! Thanks for posting.
You guys are beautiful, you seem so in love, i could feel it when the song started and Kel looked at you at the begining of the song with so much love, and a few moments later when she grabbed your hand, you brought tears to my eyes...! i envy you...
Shinedown are a Jacksonville FL band so it makes sense for him to have been listening to LS music his whole life . Two great bands from the same city ,years apart . Listen to Shinedowns 45 ....nice starter to their catalogue
Shinedown is amazing, and Brent Smith's vocals are always spectacular. I used this song, specifically the Shinedown version, for my mother-son dance at my wedding. Honestly, most of Shinedown's work is great, but I would suggest the "Sound of Madness" album. It's their best selling album, and almost every song is worth listening to. If I had to choose a specific song, I would suggest either #IfYouOnlyKnew or #SecondChance
check out the album "Leave a Whisper" by Shinedown. Their first album, and from the same time period this song was recorded. I saw them 4 times on that tour, and to this day is the best live band I have ever seen. Brent Smith has the voice of an angel.
this song is wonderful, the three guitars give weight to the incredible sound, their story is full of tragedies, that all rest in peace, hug, Rogério Brasil (Brazil)
Manilla Road-Crystal Logic. Legendary underrated band from Wichita. Mark "The Shark" Shelton formed the band in the 70's and played both guitar and sang and there's a saying "If you know about Manilla Road you are a true Metalhead!" Would be great if you reacted to it especially since his one year anniversary of his passing will be on the 27th.
I saw them in 09. Staind, Shinedown, Chevelle and Halestorm. Sadly, I missed Halestorm. They were added at the last minute and I had never heard of them. I was late to a concert for the first and the last time ever.
