I loved this song when I was 9 years old, maybe even younger. It was a huge earworm then. Since finding it on here, it has become one again, over 60 years later.
This song is filled with the feeling of longing sorrow and also a kind of "everything is gonna be alright"-type of feeling. I love this. Greetings from Finland and thank you for the ones who created this masterpiece!
Beautiful song, beautiful voices. 1963-1964 fifteen years old and my friends and I went bowling every Friday. The "bad" boy I liked was living with family in another town(think he may have gotten in some trouble in his hometown). If someone (didn't work if I did it) played "Deep Purple" on the jukebox, he'd walk in. Sweet high school memory. Always loved this song even before this happened.
I saw a beautiful picture of deep purple gladiolus and the lyrics of this song came back to me. I probably haven't heard it for 30-40 years, who knows. But I looked up the song on Amazon Music and I have been listening on repeat. Lovely smooth voices singing the words that are very memorable.
This song always transports me to Jimmy Stewart walking down a rose path, in love, in old fashioned form. It's how I think about my betrothed...and a dear love in every sense of the time~❤️ will always love you Russ, beyond words
Good morning/afternoon/evening, my Circle of Friends...Let's start this day/night with an Oldie 'Deep Purple' by a Brother and Sister Nino Tempo and April Stevens...And as long as my heart will beat, sweet lover we'll always meet...Here in my deep purple dreams...Enjoy
This comment choked me up, even though I didn't exist in 1963. Radio stations should have played this after many disasters and tragedies, like 9/11/2001. 🥹💞💓❤️🩹
Our song 1963 ,married 1964 just before i shipped out. we were in love till the day she died April 30 6:30 pm 2016.I believe i love her even more now than i ever have. Thanks youtube for the great music that's just a click away.
I'm sure you heard the story of how Richie Blackmore's Grandmother asked him if the song she used to play for him on the Piano was in his new band "Roundabout's" repertoire? The rest, as they say, is History...
Its Sept 2020 and this song was one my husband and I feel in love with back then he past away 10 yrs ago I still listen to this this song brings back so many memories
I'd love to listen to a Latin version of this lovely s😍ng, with lyrics in Spanish on screen. Not only that, but this song is my go-to if ever life deals me a crummy card.
Truly amazing song. Only just became aware of it. Amazing in so many ways. A hell of a lot of instruments and harmonsisation patterns going on here all seemlessly layered onto each other. Every time I listen I hear more. Why a guy is continuously shouting "moss"? towards the end of the song, I do not know. According to my basic kit that does this sort of thing Nino Tempo is NOT singing the approved lyrics at the beginning, he sings instead "In a deep purple vase, stands a sleepy golden rose" which is obviously a bit racy for 1963 as indeed are many of the lyrics, although they are excellent and tell the story well. The harmonisations are not at all simple and use different techniques across the song. And for good measure lets just get April Stevens to stop singing and just speak in the second half of the song while Nino Tempo repeats whatever she says using a pile of diffferent cadences and when he struggles for high notes just lets keep whatever shrillness he comes up with in the song to promote the idea that its a simply produced song produced in 10 minutes with no retakes. Brilliant.
Has anyone seen the sheet music for this version.... I have various copies as well as one published that says it's the Donny and Marie version, but it's not; it's the original 1930s version. :(
try google sheet music. also if you have access to a music store they may be able to get it for you. also try amazon or your library, they often have music books in them
