Mícheál Ó Súilleabháin and the RTÉ Concert Orchestra performance at the 8th Annual Irish Film & Television Awards in Dublin's Convention Centre on February 12th.
Musical genius. Want 'Woodbrook' played at my funeral . Condolences to Michael and all his extended family on your immense loss. I am sure he is resting in peace.A gifted soul who is still giving to us all and for ever.....Lost my Dad a few weeks before Michael and am sure they are having a big chin-wag in heaven. Rest in peace to you both.Love ye for ever xxx
Thanks for posting. I have a tape from long ago that I recorded of Mícheál Ó'Súilleabháin playing The Three Sea Captains accompanied on bodhrán on the radio programme, An Fáinne Óir. I became an immediate fan at that time. At last I have put a face to the name of this genius.
The first piece, Woodbrook has been for years the closing on Corks 96FM radio Sunday morning “Oldies and Irish” with Derry O’Callaghan. A beautiful composition. RIP Micheál.
+Tara Healy It's called An tSeanghé Liath (The Old Grey Goose) - if you find the sheet music anywhere give me a shout! on this album, track 4 www.discogs.com/M%C3%ADche%C3%A1l-S%C3%BAilleabh%C3%A1in-The-Dolphins-Way/release/2127101
It was a big mistake having that clarinet player to try and 'duel' with Micheal O' Suilleabhain. Why do that? It only fucks up a great song. Oiche Nollag is a lovely song just as it is. This is typical RTE 'soviet' style of heavy handedness. As in....if we (RTE) are going to be 'involved' in all of this, then we will have to 'stamp' our authority all over this. Bullshit! They single-handedly ruined it with their 'stilted' version. Christ when will they ever learn!....that's it's not all about *RTE* That's it's actually about the *ARTISTS* that they are filming. Is it possible that RTE can get actually the hang of that? We live in hope....
