I dont think the clicky on the pitch wheel is a hardware "issue", I'm pretty sure its a feature. A tactile response to let you know where the center point is.
Great video. I've had the oxygen pro mini for a while now and overall a great controller, however the default DAW and preset settings are terrible. of course you can customise everything, which is a huge bonus and exactly what Ive done - remapped the whole controller as the factory settings are not intuitive. The Preset editor also needs more work, there are certain things you cannot modify and can only modify directly on the controller. hopefully some of this will be improved with future software and firmware releases.
@@jeekakrishna Man this is just one guy's opinion. My friend has it and says everythings perfect on Ableton and FL Studio, plus it's all remapable and customizable. Don't take 1 opinion as a deal breaker. Lol
Man, as you say it, and the documentation says it, you'd think assigning the 16 knobs in MPC Beats to the 4 knobs on the Mini via the Banks would be straight forward.. No! You have to click Bank 2x as if there is a sub bank within each Bank number, and then there are only 8 available knobs for the 16 MPC knobs, as you Bank through the menus "learning" the knobs as you go, they begin to reuse CCs already used in the first 8 assignments! If you have this figured out, or if the hardware buttons needs to be reassigned unique addresses so to not overlap already used addresses, we certainly would appreciate your tutorial. You are the internet AUTHORITY on this device bro.
Hello DSoundman. I've noticed that the keyboard does not have a DAW configuration for Cakewalk by Bandlab. Is there a way to configure the keyboard for Cakewalk? Thanks for the video, I still learned a lot from it. Cheers.
If you need to use the pads, beware. Their accuracy is nowhere near the Akai MPK mini series. I just got the Oxygen and already thinking of getting rid of it because the pads do not trigger with short touches at any velocity. Need to keep the finger on longer for them to work which eliminates the possibility to play faster rhythms/fingerdrumming.
Thanks, that's what I wanted to know before buying it. I have the same absurd problem with the akai mpk mini and I'm looking for something better now cause it sucks
@@thegreatestguitaristonmars3608 I recommend the Akai MPK mini plus which just came out. The pads seem to be upgraded and are more responsive, chord and key modes are fun to experiment with.
yo wazap! awesome review! I just got mine the other day and it is very awesome. have the same experience with the pitch bend - there is a click when you hit the center. Nevertheless, I really love this controller so far!
Trying to decide betweend this M-Audio Oxygen Pro MINI (like the 32 keys for syncing violin full first finger notes) or the Launchkey 37 (same reason). Would prefert the small but seems like non of the 25 key minis would be great since I want full first position violin. This would be my first keyboard ever for song writing. Need portability. Like that this keyboard starts with F3. Need to work with Garageband and Ableton.
My software for my Oxygen Pro Mini doesn't work on my computer anymore. But is there a way to blank out the settings, that way I can custom link the controls to individual project files? I'm using FL Studio 21, and everything is wired to knobs I don't want to control with.
Very nice. I wasn't looking for a new mini controller, but now you've got me thinking of this for just $159Cdn. I have the original Akai MPK-Mini and Arturia MiniLAB and prefer the MPK-Mini. Two definite pros for me: 1) rear connections! I hate the side connections on the MPK-Mini and MiniLAB. 2) MIDI out for sound modules. I rarely use a DAW, and the MPK-Mini and MiniLAB are USB only, so I rarely used the controllers. I use a MPK-61 for hardware synths instead of an intermediate DAW, but not very portable. :-) A little disappointed that preset mode for controlling sound modules via MIDI only has two banks, vs. eight for DAW. Considering there are only 4 faders & 4 knobs, I would have liked four banks for non-DAW. But, the MIDI out is a big plus over my MPK-Mini and MiniLAB and I'd actually use this controller.
Could you do a video on the MODE button and how it works in DAW mode? The editor seems confusing... it has Rec, Select, Mute, and Solo, but I'm not sure exactly how those 4 are assigned (when you set them to CC, not "Mackie") as you can do 16 assignments total in DAW mode. Thx!
edit: Nevermind... I can see when you cycle the Mode button, it has the Record "bank", Select "bank", etc. It's not exactly clear in the manual. But that is pretty cool, because you have 16 button assignments that can be anything, except those standard assignments.
Hey! Pretty cool stuff! Would it be possible that the DEVICE/SENDS functions are not working for Pro Tools? You've mentioned that this can be engaged by holding down shift then selecting the corresponding pad. But only PAN lights up for Pro Tools. Thanks in advance!
Awesome video review and explanation! I just purchased my Mini and was dreading reading through the manual. Your instruction was great! Do you know how to turn off the annoying tempo light? I saw somewhere that this was possible but can't find the source.
@@Keziapurrs I should get my mini in couple days but from I saw, you should be able to edit that tempo button to sinc with DAW, which basically shuts it off. Hope that helps
Very nice video! I wonder if you can help me.. I need to quickly switch across midi channels when playing live, to access different sounds/virtual synths. Is there a quick way (like in old m-Audio controllers where you can switch midi channel by pressing a keyboard key) to switch the midi channel used by the entire keyboard (keys, wheels, etc) at once ... without having to click many buttons, knobs, etc?
Thanks man for the things you do for us its really helpful! And it will be great if you could add some time laps ! Ive just got this awesome keyboard and trying to figure out the controls) When I am simply pressing the bank> or bank< it doesnt change the pad banks until I touch any slider, then I can change the banks and bank> button works. And it doesnt matter if pad bank knob selected or not, if I am in daw or preset mode..is it firmware issues or there is something I dont get ? I ve spend all night to figure this out and tried to make it work..but it didnt..Would really appreciate if you would clarify. A bunch of thanks in advance!
Sure thing! Yes, go into the global menu (hold shift and press the Mode/Global button) and scroll through there till you hit the key velocity setting or the pad velocity...whichever you’re trying to adjust. In there you can set to different fixed velocity levels. Hope that helps!
I know this is an older video, but wondering. I just learning to actually play keys/piano, and I use Ableton for most of my other equipment. I also have "massive" hands, I can reach over an octave using one hand with ease on a grand piano. .. My goal is to find a 32 key controller I can carry with me in my bag so I can do things like practice while I am at work. Would you suggest this controller, or a different one?
great vids man I just got this controller but it's not working with REASON 10 which is the DAW that I use .... can you help me? I haven't found vids on the topic oh. and by the way the controller remains the same referring to the things you didn't like (faders and pitch wheel clicks) thanks in advance!
I hope the driver for Windows 10 is better that the Axiom Air Mini 32 that has not been reliable for me. It is a great small midi controller, but sometime Windows 10 will not recognize it. I've tried new cable, different USB ports, disconnection all USB device but the Axiom Air Mini 32, reinstalling the driver, letting Windows try and plug and play it - it is a bear.
thanks!! I have a question: in Preset mode, if you CYCLE through the available presets on the display, do you need to CONFIRM? push ok button? or JUST BROWISNG, TURNS ON each preset? (I play life performing, so I need to change the presets very fast, and I dont want to be menu diving and confirming each change of preset) thanks in advance!
Nice video, thanks. However, i am having a problem with this controller. I am using Scarlet Solo 3rd Gen USB audio-interface with sampling rate 192000 and buffer size 256, and the latency on the keys is non-existent (3.8 ms). However, the pads still DO have a delay (i believe it`s around 20-30 ms to my feel), and i cannot fix it. This makes playing fast drum parts impossible on pads, and it really upsets me. Is there any kind of solition for this, or it is a conceprual problem of this midi-controller model?
Thanks man; very nice video! But say: is there no way of stopping that stupid tempo button from flashing?! It annoyed the hell out of me just watching your video! So I'm already thinking about how to cover it or whatever...
my mini is supposed to be "semi-weighted", whatever that is, but it feels just like a regular cheap keyboard with springs under the keys rather than like a normal piano keyboard with weighted keys.
Hi Douglas, thanks so much for your in depth guides, it’s been very helpful. I’ve been thinking about purchasing this as a worship leader to support my keys player with lines, riffs or background pads through Sunday Keys with MainStage. And also to just change our sound from heavily driven by acoustic guitar to maybe more synthy or keys driven sounds. Would you say this little device would meet those needs in your opinion? Thanks again!
Just bought it few weeks ago, and damn, what I can say is, it is a good controller, but the software bundle is meh :/. I prefer using free spitfire audio LABS than minigrand :3
It’s a controller with no sounds built in, so you need something else to control that has sound. It comes with three standalone virtual instruments that you can use on your computer without any DAW.
can you turn it into a dumb controller. I mean some kind of boot where you can bypass any of its internal firmware stuff so you can program the controller in you own software (like the new feature in cubase 12)
Can this keyboard transpose by semitones and not just octaves? Like, if I wanted to play a C Major and have it actually be D Major, would that be possible? I was mainly wondering since I have no piano experience and only know the C Major scale by eye. While I could and would eventually learn the rest, I'd also like to be able to play and compose in different keys without having to learn and master playing various scales first.
Man I'm really stressed after buying this controller, whenever I press the keys or the pads they don't anything, they are recognized in every DAW and Standalone App, I've already tried Midi OX to verify that the Midi es sending info, but I can't seem to make it work, do you by any chance offer help via email or discord? I'm really desperate
Hey Julio, in your DAW, I assume you have an instrument/midi track with a virtual instrument/plugin assigned? Is it there that the virtual instrument is not producing any sound when you play the controller? Just confirm you have the track armed to record as well, I know some DAWs won’t enable the MIDI messages unless the track is armed.
@@DSoundman thanks for the reply! It suddenly fixed after doing the firmware update, maybe it was that? Seems weird to me since it's class compliant and should work out of the box after plugging it in but i got fixed and i was able to start recording
I hope this will globally explain a bit more, just a little explaination what some verbs stand for and what they do and can be used for. CC: Control Change (change the controller value. It's based on General Midi Standard Protocol) , PC: Program Change (change to other preset) , (N)RPN: (Non) Registered Parameter Numbers (not really sure what this does it's kind of CC but more in depth and specific) , LSB: Least Significant Bit , MSB: Most Significant Bit . (LSB and MSB contain bank related information like preset bank information the region of bank up and bank down can be set with MSB and LSB values ) Sysex: System Exclusives (being used with hexadecimal string, that contains manufacture data, the type of device, the controller parameter and I believe also the midi channel or values) also there are verbs like MMC (Midi Machine Control) timecode data (clock). These are used for sequencer data like start/pause, record, stop and synchronization with the device thats tells the sequencer exactly when and where it is at the timelime.
@@DSoundman thanks for the reply... I clicked back and forth in your video to find out what you meant. I missed that detail. That is unfortunate... Especially when it is packaged with it. I am wrecking my brain wether my first keyboard should be Novation launch key mini or this. Because of the sliders and multiple DAW utility and customization, I think I am going with M-audio
The keyded is horrible, the edges of all the plastic parts are sharp. Very disapointing. I sent it back. „Still realy playable“ is very kindly formulated. But for who doesn‘t care this aspect, it could be ok.
I'm sure the thing is great. But to make an account is impossible. Getting support is the world worst. I got ripped off. I can't do nothing with this thing. That's all it is. A THing. I think I waisted my money on this Thing...
pressing multiple keys at the same time causes one of the notes to just keep playing forever until i repress that key and i can't figure out how to fix that, cant find anything on google and i even asked amazon for a replacement and it STILL does it! can anyone help me?
