Thank you so much for the video- its a huge relief. I guess if you're an experienced rider- its just the basic stuff you need to follow while being alert all the time. I was unnecessarily tensed about this whole M test.

Just back from my M2 exit test on Walkley in Ottawa, and passed with flying colours, thanks to this detailed video 🙏🏽 . Really helped me polish up on finer points they’d be looking for. Slight variation in route, we left the centre headed west on Walkley, left onto airport parkway, right on hunt club, right on Paul Anka, then left on McCarthy, right on Walkley, return to test centre…passed! Suggestions to me were, 1) look left-right -left…2) pump rear brake to indicate you’re slowing, and 3) merge faster on highway after indicating…all of which I thought I was doing, but he was not going to give me 100 % lol. Good luck to others taking the test….practice…practice…practice! And thanks again bro!

@@nickraycroft he seemed like a crusty old guy, but warmed up with a little conversation. As long as they can see you know what you doing, it’ll be a breeze. Relax, I know easier said than done, breathe and keep saying you got this! My test was only 20 minutes long. Just follow this video tips and pointers and all will be fine. Funny but not funny thing happened before my test, I said to him I don’t have 4 way flashers for the emergency stop, he looked at my controls and said whats that big red button…I thought I was done when he said not a good start when he knows my controls better than I do. Did I ever feel stupid. Good luck, you got this!

WRT highway, you are also marked for lane positioning on the highway. Weaving from left to right tire track would cause you to loose points.

Do you think it’s better to pull in the clutch and go down in gears coming up to a stop or to rev match downshift? Does it matter?
@tractioncontrol.ca1
@tractioncontrol.ca1 6 месяцев назад
Good question! If you are coming to a stop then better to pull in the clutch and down shift. Rev matching works better when you are downshifting and continue to ride. Rev matching is choice of preference. It is most useful on race track but for street riding, it wont make much difference. Try it out! see what works best for you :))))
@bikedude5911
@bikedude5911 7 месяцев назад
There is no Emergency stop. There is however, a Roadside stop. Big difference. Roadside stop asks you to perform a stop stop because you may have noticed your saddlebag wasn't latched up. Or you forgot t pull in your heated vest, etc. There is nothing emergency about it. Emergency stop (in Instructor language) is just that an emergency stop where you are stoping as quickly and as safely as you can.
@ADobbin1
@ADobbin1 5 месяцев назад
So if you aren't allowed to shift gears then you are supposed to over rev or go too slow? I've got a low displacement bike so changing gears while turning is a must to clear an intersection quickly and safely.
@tractioncontrol.ca1
@tractioncontrol.ca1 5 месяцев назад
The rule is not to shift gears but again do what's safest for you. I agree! it is difficult not to shift up on low displacement bikes (especially while making a left turn through big intersection) I recommend to discuss your situation with the examiner before the test. I don't see why they would want you to do something that's not safe for you. There is always exception ;)

I’m booking my test date very soon. When making a left turn through an intersection that has a left turn lane do I keep in the blocking lane or move more to the left tire track for visibility ? Thanks great video
@bikedude5911
@bikedude5911 7 месяцев назад
You would do a full lane change sequence into the left turn lane. In addition to mirror check, signal, blind spot, move left, you would move from the left tire track (of the through lane) to the right tire track o the left turn lane. You would block from the right tire track to avoid any vehicle coming in to your lane. Now that said, for major intersections where through lane speeds are 60kph or higher, I always tell students to still block from the right tire track but to not be too aggressive as vehicles will be passing you on the right. This wind disturbance can be unsettling if you are not ready for it.
@tractioncontrol.ca1
@tractioncontrol.ca1 6 месяцев назад
That's a great question and I am not sure if you already did your test but I am going to answer for other riders who may have the same question. Making a left turn while going through intersection (from designated or non designated left lane) stay in blocking position. The reason why is because you are also marked on criteria if turn is too sharp of wide, changing tire track may seem like going wide/short. Secondly, you are also marked on what tire track you end up after completing the turn. Hope this helps :)
@jeminiany222
@jeminiany222 10 дней назад
But if you stay in the blocking position(right side) as you creep into the intersection, you cannot see if the way is clear because the left turning car opposite to you. I had the same question and was a bit confused

I noticed that in the fist stop sign you didn't do head checks, you stop for no time and you put down your right foot, how many demerit points are for that?
@tractioncontrol.ca1
@tractioncontrol.ca1 4 месяца назад
Every mistake is 1 demerit point. It doesnt matter which foot do you put down, as long as you stop with your foot/feet down.

Would the examiner take you to 400 coded hiighways? Assuming max speed limit is 100kmh, Is it okay to ride between 80-90kmh on those highways? Thanks a bunch.
@tractioncontrol.ca1
@tractioncontrol.ca1 Год назад
You would need a motorcycle that is highway speed worthy. 80-90kms per hour speed might be deemed as unsafe for highways. Typically 250cc or more motorcycle would do for the test.

Is it usually easier to pass the test when you take it via a riders course? And I will use the tape method. Always better to be seen than not.

I can not say whether that it is easy or hard. It all depends on a rider. But it becomes easy if you know what they are looking for and you been practicing.

With my m1 and a 2002 ninja 500 I got quoted 6K a year in Ontario. I’m 34 with a clean driving record. With m2 and motorcycle safety course they quoted me $1,250. Desjardins and TD gave me significantly cheaper quotes (like 5K less then travellers ect). Don’t buy a friggin beast for your first bike man
