If you are a pro producer then 16g Ram is the way to go. If you an amateur/bedroom producer then M1 with 8GB is more than sufficient provided you keep your set up clean. Ie use your DAW default/ native instruments. Storage of 512GB is a must either way you go

Why is SSD 512GB recommended? Is 128GB not sufficient enough?
@Loneranger670

@@RyanNamTV Apart from the space the DAW, sound libraries and plugins take, the Project files can consist of a few Gigs in size so 128G SSD will run out quite fast.

@@stephenmwanzakeA properly set up Winfows PC can be as performant (or even better) as a Mac. The issue is if you buy a random consumer-level Windows laptop is that the built in hardware pieces are often not selected for reliable realtime performance. They will cause what is called "DPC latency" (look it up). So any application like video editing or audio DAWs that have to compute many processes in realtime will struggle. With Mac computers you know that they will run fine out of the box, since all pieces of the puzzle are designed to fit well together. However, there are professional Windows laptops that don't suffer from this issue. You can also built your own powerful Windows workstation PC (stationary tower) for a fraction of the price of a Mac Pro with equal or better performance. Windows is more sustainable, since I can still run most of the latest plugins on my Win 7 machine, whereas with Macs when the OS gets updated new plugins often will no longer be compatible with older Macs and older plugins will not be fully supported in the updated OS. Overall I think that Macs are more well designed (hardware and software) than Windows, but Windows (provided you have hardware that has low DPC latency) is a completely viable option for professional aufio and video work. Hans Zimmer runs a Windows PC (a very powerful one though) with Cubase!

I have the M1 macbook air with 256 gb storage, and 8 gb ram. I'm basically just want to start out with music production just as a hobby, particularly house/electro type beats. I plan to get a mac studio next year, but in the mean time, I'd like to start getting used to the concept of putting tracks together again as it's been a few years. Where did you get your device to connect other devices?

16gb ram is better but you can still get work done with 8gb.
@CasmurMusic
@CasmurMusic 8 месяцев назад
For the large majority of new and upcoming producers, yes, 8GB with the M1 chip is enough. 8GB with an Intel chip would be a HELL NO but people still underestimate how powerful the M1 chip is and its capabilities. There are plenty RU-vid videos showcasing this so don't listen to anyone telling you "you need 16GB minimum!!" unless you're planning on using 10+ VSTs and 40+ channels in one Logic Pro X project.
