Vietnam still has a very small number of the M107 being stored and ready to be dusted up and serve. They are dubbed “Vua Chiến Trường” or “King of the Battlefield”. It’s quite fitting for such montrous power it can deliver.

That is the answer of the US Army to the North Vietnamese Army or NVA there M46 130mm Howitzer Propelled Towed Artillery piece and that the Soviet / Russia supply to them . While the US Army M107 175mm Howitzer is a Self Propelled Artillery piece and when the South Vietnam.fall to the North Vietnam and the NVA have captured the fUS ARMY M107 175 mm Howitzer Self Propelled Artillery piece .

One scary thing about the 175 ; when firing zone 3 powder charge T longer ranges. It was required to clear the piece along with using a 30" lanyard . They had been known to blow the breech block off

M107 was a gun m110 was a howitzer get it right.

Gun: long barrel relatively to caliber, elevation up to 45°. Howitzer: short barrel relatively to caliber, elevation +70°. Gun-howitzer: hybrid of gun add howitzer.

Good video. Love the 107. The M46 was also an excellent weapon, as the Marines at Khe Sanh could testify.

¡Excelente video! , verdaderamnete el M107 ha sido la mejor pieza de Artillería de EEUU y de Occidente gracias a su plataforma de transporte (común al M113) , alcance de tiro y capacidad de ser aerotransportado , una pena el que haya desaparecido. Por cierto , buenas imágenes que se ha conseguido del M107 algunas no las había visto , gracias .

Officers in a firefight were understandably wary of asking for this gun. It was notoriously inaccurate, especially near the limit of it's range. Granted, a artillery shell doesn't have to be pinpoint accurate but there was a danger of friendly fire. This is what I have read, at least.

As a former artilleryman, all of the veterans I served with who had Vietnam War experience swore by its accuracy. This includes men who were in the Infantry during Vietnam, and relied on its fire support. I had never heard of inaccuracy in the M107. What I did hear was that the only shell it fired was high explosive, and that's why it was limited in its usage to the army. That's why I was phased out, I was told.

@@xray86delta I have no experience with this weapon and I am not a veteran. I don't dispute your experiences nor the experiences of others. I do read a lot of Vietnam books. The soldiers I read about were wary of the 175mm. They loved the 155 and the 8 inch guns. I defer to your experience. But in all wars, opinions about weapons will differ. Some guys loved the newer M-16. Some hated it. Maybe the guys you talked to had people shooting for them who were dead-eyed Dicks.

The question I have is: Is there still a nieche for a 175mm artillery piece in a modern army's inventory? Say, if an army would select a gun system without any logistical challenges, would a 175mm outclass common 155mm guns?

Well, i remember turkish army reactivating 203mm howitzers in 2016-2017 because it gave ability to destroy concrete bunkers/machine gun nests in syria without calling in airstrikes. But i doubt 175mm would be more useful than 203mm for that.

Well the 155/152mm artillery hit the sweet spot of logistics, ammo handling, and terminal effects. An upgraded 203mm or 175mm would be able to deliver accurate and big artillery rounds on enemy targets. But both would not be good at shooting and scooting. Shooting and scooting is a must and the greater effect of their rounds wouldn't offset their vulnerably slow scooting.

No you're wrong I was on the 175 from 1963 till 1965.... 6th gun battalion 9th artillery in giessen Germany..... the difference between a gun and a Howitzer is the amount of lands and grooves the 175 had 13 lands and grooves therefore it was considered a gun. 78 years old now and still standing.

Why compare a self propelled M107 with a towed B46? . than it s more logic to compare it with the M114 as a towed counterpart.

When a maker of a video constantly mislabels a gun as a howitzer if drastically reduces the belief that the video creator knows their stuff. M-107 is a SPG and the M-110A1 and M-110A2 are self-propelled howitzers.
