I test drove an M1 air for a bit and found I needed more screen real estate. Now running an M1 Max 16” after watching your reviews and it’s great around the house but I miss the portability. Now with the M2 air redesign it’s tempting to make another jump!

If the MBP struggled with the M2 chip with active cooling, I think the MBA and even the M2 iPad Pro’s would have a chip limitation like limited wattage as the 14” M1 Max have. Overall for the redesign and new features is a better deal for me.

I really appreciate the level of testing your team does on the macs to help us with our decision. Can't wait for the actual tests of the m2 MacBook air be out. Hopefully the overheating issue won't cause too much of a bummer to it. Or maybe a similar mod to the m1 air can be done on the m2 air to boosts its performance? Also considering the m2 air is already quite a few hundred more expensive, it would be great to see how much is it worth getting it over say a m1pro MacBook pro 14".

As much as I love the "Pro", I prefer the design with the Air. I loved the new design with the 14-16" so now having it much cheaper, I'm definitely going to get it for school!

Super excited for the M2 Pro/Max/Ultra chips! Hopefully Apple will bring more color options to the Pros (allow us to choose the colors available with the 24inch iMacs since they’re in the production line AND, laptops seem easier to do due to the lower surface area). Thx MaxTech!

I used to like the M1 Macbook Pro a lot. Especially since there was almost no difference in the design between the Air and Pro. Now though, the Macbook Air design is more modern. MBP 13 SSDs are slow in the base model. Let's see whether that is the case with the Air

I like the idea of the Mac book pro, but with apple trying to close the gap with the air the price difference feel like it’s worth the extra pricing. Most comparison videos between the two in recent models are very similar and there aren’t much differences unless they are pushed the extreme. Even then the differences feel minuscule. Both are great machines tho, I’ve been looking at some for school and still can’t decide between which one is get. Keep up the good videos, it is very informative.

A laptop cooling pad under each of these M2 devices may be an interesting experiment regarding throttling under load. It seems that the M1 fell just under the power draw sweet spot to stay cool all or most of the time. Maybe apple have started down the same path of how do we cool this thing that Intel has been dealing with for years with the 2nd generation. The 13" pro throttles as it is and I do not doubt that the Air will throttle. I'm sure that both could benefit from additional airflow over the bottom of the case as long as there was a small standoff between fand and case. The Air may even benefit more as they are using the case as an integrated part of the chips cooling anyway. Might be interesting to see how much each benefits?

@@ericpmoss I have an old rectangular bluetooth speaker that achieves the same purpose. I doubt that it will help the Mac though, there are no vents underneath like in a windows laptop. The lower case forms a part of the Air's heat sink and would only really benefit from active airflow moving over the surface of the case. A metal tray cookie tray underneath might add to the thermal mass with some airflow may help though. I used to run a 2014 15" Macbook pro and made a number of overclocking world records with it back in the day. For high intensity but shorter duration workloads like benchmarks, I found that using a gel hot and cold pack under the hottest part of the case worked really well. It could start out frozen and provided benefits, preventing throttling from the i7 Haswell cpu, up to when the pack started to get warm to the touch. The Air is not a model that is designed to render videos all day long. It is a model for web browsing, email and social media like workloads that can do a bit of occasional video editing if needed. An ad hoc cooling solution that goes under the unit as needed may be the perfect solution for the odd occasion that it is needed.

After this and other reviews I recognise that the new air is an upgrade over the previous version, but I'm not so sure it's worth it. It has a better camera and screen, but the designs and ports are slight improvements. And being that the most recommended model would be the 512 model so as not to have a negative impact with the ssd, the price difference from the M1 seems too much to me. Maybe I should see it with my own eyes. Even better if I win one of your laptops 😁

For me, the noticeable advantage of the PRO is two external monitors connection option. This is the only meaningful reason for the existence of the M2 MacBook 13 Pro compared to the Air on the same chip.

Despite the slower SSD speed on base model and thermal enclosure limitation in certain use cases, this laptop is still the perfect machine to get for my parents since in their use will never face the “issues”. PS: amazing channel with great reviews on products. Keep up with the great work!
