Mm I wouldn’t call it negative, Max. It is increasingly important (esp in these times) to refrain from labeling facts as “positive” or “negative”. If a fact is proven, which you did, and that upsets the vocal minority, imagine how it helps the silent majority. Great work man I see you! One last thing, I’m still a bit confused about swap memory issue with M1 MBAir. So.. 512GB +16GB RAM Or 1TB + 8GB RAM ?

@@aidanthompson2003 I have the base M1. But if you can, then you should upgrade the ram for future proofing. I couldn’t because I busted my intel MacBook Pro and needed this urgently; and the upgrade would take 4 weeks here India. But the base blows out my 2019 pro, too :)

@@anasali-et3lc unless you have some windows specific apps that you don’t have on Mac, I would personally suggest a Mac. For stuff like MS office, I sometimes missed windows computers when I had an intel MacBook, however with the M1 MacBook everything’s super snappy.

Imagine building an architecture which heavily relies on SSD swapping to function, then halving the speed of swaps on the second iteration. That is absolutely bizarre.

They offer swap to help the 8GB variants, but the architecture is not built on it. For the person that knows what they are doing they will not buy 8GB of RAM if they need 16GB. Even if the storage was faster on the M1 the swap still slows the machine down, so more RAM is the solution, not faster storage.

First time Apple purchase was my M1 MBA and your channel is 98% responsible for that decision. One of the best purchases I've ever made. I knew after a month of use that it wouldn't be getting replaced anytime soon. The subsequent releases just haven't been enough of an upgrade for me to justify the trade-in yet. Thank you for your honesty and inflexibility to be compromised. Thank you for purchasing more machines for comparison as well to give us more comprehensive comparisons. A fabulous and perfectly articulated delivery. Max, this is one of the most important videos ever made about the MacBook and the channel deserves full credit for bringing this issue to light. Can't wait for your review of the M2 Air, the model I'm personally interested in! And the worst part, there’s just a better option right around the corner! No need to go crazy sharpening pitchforks over this, just avoid it and pick ANY of the other better tons of options… either get a M1 Air at a steal of a price or spend a couple hundred dollars more and enjoy full power and performance, the point here is simple, pick anything except the BASE M2 MacBook Pro, that’s just it. The whole craze is such a nothingburger…

This is not something many of you will get as you suck at Tim's teats but it is a case of the principal! @@taefravis I suggest that maybe you don’t buy any of these laptops. Seems to me that you wanted exactly this one and don’t want a 512GB one (which is also very little anyways) or a heavily discounted ($850) powerhouse that would behave even better than this M2 base one. No one is defending Tim Cook, the whole video is about how this is such a bad take progress wise. The whole point about all these comments is that the Max Tech guys shouldn’t be receiving all the heat for exposing the reality of how such a bad deal this base M2 machine is, it’s ok to expose that it isn’t a good one and it’s also ok to show the other better options. I don’t know why you had to make it personal, I would suggest (and hope) that for every interaction you have when walking down the streets with strangers you don’t take it to personal levels and suggest to the person that you are talking is: 1. A cry-baby and 2. Suck’s on someone else’s private parts. I have seen people being punched hard in the face for a whole lot less, trust me wholeheartedly on that.

The should just have gone with 512 GB as standard for ages now. 1TB on the pro machines (13” pro isn’t pro anymore). Air - 512 / 8 GB Pro - 1 TB / 16 GB This would clearer define the lines as well.

You are damn correct about this, yes its a flaw, and yes it should be fixed in launches of the future. And I am all in on apple’s stuff, but stuff like this should not be accepted. Unfortunately there are not enough noise about this issue and I’m worried that apple will pull more plays like this in the future. Curious of the new air, I assume the same issue will be present. And things like this are messing up apple’s own win streak. They turned mountains with the value that the M1’s offered and now in a generation they go and cheap out. And keep in mind in many countries we’ve seen massive price jumps across the board and it makes this purchase even worse. And heyy I’m happy w my M1 13”. Its amazing and was a great deal.

Can confirm, even the m1 macbook air with 8gb stated to feel gutless after ram fills up, and it does fill up really fast. Sold mine and got the 14 inch. M1 or M2 with 8gb and slower swap will be terrible at multitasking. Im with you guys. I actually thought you were shilling for apple in your reviews for the m1 air base, because it did not meet my expectations. But now i understand that my expectations were too high, and the m1 held up pretty well, considering what I threw at it with my development process. It is great that you are spreading the truth on this issue! Macbook 14 M1 pro base, perfect machine so far.

Yes, when they claimed that the 8GB Air is so much better than the M2 Pro 13 I nearly choked on my porridge. All computers with 8GB of RAM running 14GB of swap will grind to a halt, different levels of slowing down but all that reinforces is that you maybe should have bought 16GB not 8GB.

@@zujko100 I tested my Galaxy Book pro (8GB/256GB) and had just 8 Chrome tabs open and was at 91% memory and tabs were having to reload. I did try with Edge and the RAM went down to about 75%, Chrome is such a resource hog and we should really use Safari in tests like this. I did have a few extensions and YT running which eats RAM for breakfast (can be using 1.5GB in 2hrs of use); Max used that and that would have been detrimental.

The 13” MBP was the biggest let down this year (so far). Doesn’t make sense that they changed the entire design aesthetic of the MBA and completely neglected the pro. Also it’s incredibly insulting that just a little over 2 years where Apple released the Mac Pro with x86 support is deciding to abandon support in favor for Apple Silicon (ARM) despite customers paying 5 figure price tags for these products. It’s an actual slap in the face for customers who have invested tens of thousands only to have a device that will quickly lose support in very few years. And also abandoning some of the superior performance benefits you get with x86 vs ARM is also a step backwards, it would have been great for Apple continuing support for both platforms. But Max is absolutely right Apple has been walking away from Steve Jobs core philosophies in order to please shareholders, it’s actually sad.

I usually have two dozen tabs open in Firefox, some instances of a disassembler and one or two other programs. Having just 10 webbrowsing tabs open doesn´t seem unrealistic. If only I wouldn´t need X86 for my apps, i would have already switched to an M1 air. It has at least the same speed compared to my I9-8950hk with one third of the power. Keep up the good work, you give every brand a hard time which is what costumers need!

Unrealistic or not, what they should be telling people is buy 16GB of RAM if you do not want a bottleneck. That is my 2 cents worth, buy sensible, the $200 extra over 5-years are cents a day to have that longterm benefit.

Huge mistake from Apple. Thank you for spreading the light on this issue. I really hope that people will ignore the base M2 MB Pro and get the more expensive or the cheaper M1 models. Apple need to discount the base M2 MB Pro to M1 MB Air price and return half of the payment of base M2 MB Pro to the people that already bought it, in order to save their reputation.

Indeed. I really hope M2 sales take a nosedive as a backlash. Apple should just follow the Jobs principle... Modest profit margin with consistent customer satisfaction (as opposed to shortsighted greed). With these kinds of stunts I can't help but always expect them to try and take advantage of us. I recently sold my 2018 iPad Pro and I want to make do with my iPad mini 6 until I can get an M2 12.9” version which I want to use for more video editing via LumaFusion. I’ll probably get a configuration with high RAM/large SSD. Do you think this will be a significant improvement over an M1 w/ 16GB RAM - enough to wait a few months assuming it’s refreshed in Sep/Oct?

They just need to kill this part of their product line. It’s not a shit machine. It’s a shit configuration. M2 is power hungry. You have to feed the beast with better SSD and more ram. Back in the day I would have to wait until mid product cycle and read 20+ professional user reviews on models and configurations. Now I just wait for your videos and I get all the info I need to make a smart purchase. Configuration is always important for a specific use.

Been on the same Macbook air since 2015 (The 11 inch ones, NGL, I loved how small it is). And I discovered your videos while possibly looking for a new macbook Air! These videos are definitely helping me make my decision, now its just the budget problems~
