I use sidecar for music production. It’s very handy. I can move my different plug-ins to the iPad and continue working on Ableton Live. It definitely makes multitasking so much easier.

My main goal is this (while I'm travelling and feel the need to produce something at night). The 10" iPad is enough for using as 2nd display w/ sidecar for my Macbook (and my developer work)? I'm planning to buy a new Macbook M1 Pro but I can't decide between 14" or 16". Will the 16" be enough to handle occasional trips so I can let my iPad at home? (PS: I already have a 2nd massive screen at home so my questions are only for 1-2 week(s) trips..

Everytime I watch a video on Sidecar, I get real excited over the possibilities of what it can. I test it out between my iPad and laptop, think of all the ways I use it. And never think of it again, until I see the next Sidecar video, but this time it will be different. Great video, and thanks for sharing.

Thanks for the tip regarding how to launch Sidecar by hovering over the left top green menu button and then selecting the destination display from the drop down menu. I didn't know that technique.

Wow that tip of opening an app on the ipad even when sidecar is not connected and the ipad screen is off is pretty awesome! That's the most useful ipad tip I've seen in some time. I just tried it and it works great!

Sidecar is one of the greatest things! Now I just need to step up my iPad game to fit my MacBook 16” setup :) With the Logitech MX Keys, MX Master 3 and Palm Rest and an iPad you pretty much have a portable Desktop setup :) At least for non-powerusers :) I especially like the Logitech products because they work just as great for Windows BootCamp gaming.

Sidecar is great for doing software development. I put VSCode on my MacBook, and the app I'm debugging on my iPad using Sidecar. It allows me to do multi-monitor development in places I wouldn't otherwise be able to, such as lying in bed, or outside on the deck or in the park.

After a 30-year career teaching music in-person, I successfully switched to teaching ONLINE, 2+ years ago. I'm currently using an M1 Mac Mini with multiple video sources (5 cameras, a macbook, iPad 9G, video switchers, etc) ... What's been frustrating, is that it's not easy to SEE my students when I look into my front-facing camera ... So I JUST bought a teleprompter. After watching your video, I'm now SUPER EXCITED to use Sidecar! ... Using my M1 Mac Mini, and another iPad (mounted on the teleprompter) connected via Sidecar, I'll now be able to see my students, WHILE I'm looking into the camera!

I need a good sidecar tutorial. I am doing my doctoral research and would like my main iMac window to show the analysis while the ipad could show maybe the inspector windows or even a journal article. Also, do I have to use specific apps for annotating (e.g. adobe??) to use with sidecar?

Chris. Great video. Just bought MacBook Pro 16 inch this week and testing out sidecar. I’d prefer to have on the left side of MacBook as you show in video but it only lets me drag screen to the right. Go into sys prefs when connected via sidecar, then under displays you can tell Catalina that the sidecar iPad is physically on the left by changing the arrangement of the two screens (laptop and iPad acting as extended desktop). The OS cannot tell what physical side of your laptop is, but once you do put it on left you can drag windows or apps right to your iPad. Think of it as a dual monitor, extended desktop setup.

I was so happy to have and use Sidecar..... but as soon as I start using sidecard, the temperature of my macbook pro 13 go from around 50 up to 70 or 80. It doesnt matter If I connect it via Wifi or cable. Also I noticed my macbook pro behaves the same when I connect it to a external monitor

Great idea. But I have found that I'm more proactive on my iPad pro rather than MacBook Pro. Thus, I would prefer to use the MacBook Pro screen as the secondary screen. Not possible I guess??

Even before Sidecar came out I was using the third-party app Duet to simulate Sidecar, and while I like Sidecar's functionality and ease of use better than Duet, I've noticed that it seems to be a power hog. The moment I fire it up and start using it the fan turns on and there is clearly some additional power demand to turn my iPad into a second monitor. It makes no difference if I use Wi-Fi or if I tether it. The result is the same. Is there something that I can do with my MacBook Air (2018 model) that makes better use of power demands so that I can run Sidecar more often and effectively? As for my own uses, I help manage a website for my own podcast, which involves lots of artwork and word documents. While the bulk of the work is done on my MacBook Air I will put my notes over on my iPad to refer to when writing my articles. I will also use it for any additional research that is required on the spot for the articles and reviews that I write. Sidecar has been the biggest blessing in my life in terms of working on my Mac. I don't have a desk big enough to run two monitors side by side so having my iPad serve as a second monitor (when I need it) has become a necessary and highly appreciated feature for me.

Hey bro , it’s a great tip to know the new M1 chips run without the additional heating on your Mac or fans blowing like an airplane. They run cooler & silent. Using sidecar on my Mac mini has been a breeze . & I have the base model … worth upgrading in the long run. Chips are crazy advanced ..

I’ve been using it since it came out. Really wish I could use my fingers as well. It’d be really cool to see DAWs such as Ableton to have the option to send a mixer display to your iPad so you can control the levels etc... with your fingers. That’d be incredibly useful. You could use XY pads and all that, it would basically enable the iPad to be a fully functioning touchpad midi controller.

TouchAble is an iPad app that solves the problem. It’s a bit pricy, but functions as a software Push alternative. Check it out!

@@Bachiksma Btw is it through Sidecar? Because I'm looking for something that works for sidecar, not an iPad app. I use Conductr for a similar purpose in that sense, but something that works under sidecar would have many additional advantages in my opinion. You wouldn't have to map anything in this case, plus still use the iPad as a second screen when needed.

Dose anyone have wireless sidecar on iPad frozen every one or two days and restarting iPad stops freezing temporarily? Should sidecar work in clamshell mode?
