Ascension/Jump/The Festival are meant to be interpreted together. They represent dying and ascending to heaven. Just like So It Goes on Swimming. Grand Finale on Faces. Youforia on Watching Movies. He had been leaving us with closing thoughts on every full project from 2013 to 2018...just in case he passed. Genius.
Puck Daily, the definition of genius is “exceptional intellectual or creative power or other natural ability.” Mac went through a lot of shit from a very early age and then continued to fight for a very long time. i’d be surprised if you or anyone else would’ve made it as long as he did and still manage to make phenomenal music whilst setting yourself apart from the rest of the rappers out there. His passing left a huge impact not only on his fans but also his family and friends and anyone whoever saw that pure heart of his. It’s a shame for sure, but i would call mac miller a genius before i said that about anyone else in the rap game. he went down a legend.

Mac miller was the most underrated musician. Good AM, The devine feminine, and swimming are all absolutely amazing. His older ones are also rly good. We need brockhampton- saturation 1
Good Music Mac Miller’s music actually improved over time. He’s been in the game for a while and you can tell his music evolved. Towards his later career he began harmonizing and his music started to have a more soulful feel. He was always good at picking beats and I think good am is his best album. He low key had bars too.

GO:OD AM was a project I slept on when it came out. I was going to school in Pittsburgh from 09-13 and I got put on to Mac when him and Wiz did a concert together my sophomore year. After that we bumped him so heavy when we were getting ready to go out. Mac had so much energy live bro. After college I kinda fell off Mac, but Swimming really hit me and now I've been bumping Faces, this, Divine Feminine, and Swimming like crazy the past five months. When you go through his projects in order you can see his evolution as a musician and a person and it wasn't even like he evolved to the trends. He did what he wanted to do in that moment. Rest in Peace to a real one.

But if you want his BEST bars and flows, they are on his Delusional Thomas mixtape, the entire project is his alter ego , the dark part of his mind. But the rhyme schemes, flows and bars are on another level entirely.
This comment will probably be lost in the masses, but all of Mac's albums/mixtapes after BSP, with the exception of the Divine Feminine, end with his death. I remember hearing an interview after the Divine Feminine dropped where he said that the Divine Feminine was the only album he has released thus far that doesn't end with his death. Go and listen to the last songs from Macadelic, WMWTSO, Faces, and GO:OD AM. The last songs all signify his death.

You must've missed divine feminine then. He's got a line that's like " I'm the only one with a widowed lover". I forget the word he used exactly, but he just wanted his story to include some love. For some reason it wasn't enough to stay though. I don't get it but I understand he's at piece now.

As one of those fans who listened to Malcolm religiously, it was heartbreaking going back to godspeed. Just his death, completely messed me up, like I lost family.
Been waiting for another Mac review! Hope you guys will review more of his work. Would love to see reviews of The Divine Feminine, Macadelic, and Delusional Thomas. When you go back to God Speed, the voicemail is from his older brother, Miller. And Q is one of Macs best friends and his business partner. His stuff is so deep because he was so open and honest about his life.
You guys are my favourite review channel outhere, and for a first listen you guys don't miss a beat. I remember when this came out, it was supposed to be a wake up call, hearing Godspeed was a relief because he was acknowledging what may have happened had he not been cleaned up.

Met Mac once when Kids was first released and rocked with him since then. Going back to listen to some of the foreshadowing in some of his projects, especially GodSpeed still gets me emotional. I know this video is a year old but glad you guys decided to give him a listen. RIP Mac. Also would love to see a Macadelic review.

TBH what you said about God Speed/Perfect Circle is correct. I remember hearing it for the first time when it dropped and being a little worried because I knew he had drug issues. But I also thought maybe it meant he was finally awake to it and was making steps to stop. Then when I heard the news that he died I immediately thought of that song. It's crazy. RIP Easy Mac. Still sad about it.
So happy you took the time to check out this project. I saw Mac perform this album at a tiny club in NYC before he toured GO:OD AM and it was wonderful to see how happy these songs made him.

Swimming album was soooooo lit....loved Mac cause you couldn't compare him to anyone. Mac sounded like Mac. He for me was almost a sub class to the hip hop genre.

Glad you guys are listening to Mac's albums, I am so blessed to be one of those many that listened to Mac starting from K.i.D.S., and watching him drop albums constantly growing as an artist. Non of his albums are the same, they all depict his state of mind at the time being.
Mac is my favorite artist ever. Every album seemed to drop at the perfect time and speak to exactly what I was going through. He always stayed true to himself, never sold out.
In regards to the album name, it was stylized as "GO:OD AM" to represent a digital clock. Originally the project was going to be titled "Good Morning" But was switched for the stylization. At least, that's the story I heard, that Mac didn't realize the "Go OD" reference until after it came out.

Great video, you are good critics/analysts, you can see all the hidden gems and intricacies in his music. The way he foreshadowed the latter part of his life and his death in his music wasn't lost on you, it really is something near prophetic.
