Mac OS Sonoma Install on 2013 Macbook Air (+ First Impressions)

I am writing this comment on a mid 2011 21,5" iMac running Sonoma, of course via OCLP. It runs suprisingly well, the only thing not working that I noticed being Bluetooth. Also, I always enjoy your videos, keep them up!

I did the 2011 iMac video card upgrade to the Nvidia K2100M. I used OCLP to get it up to Monterey and it works great. I've got a 2015 Macbook Air that runs Monetrey natively so I'm just waiting until that stops getting security updates until I try OCLP on that. I'm sure it'll be fine since yours is working good.

They unsupported MacBook pro 2017 meanwhile MacBook air 2018 is still supported which MacBook pro 2017 has the same specs of the air 2018☠️

There are a lot of things I dislike about apple but their software optimisation is rediculous. And huge shoutout to the OCLP team, they're truly keeping so many old macs from ewaste bins

I have the same Macbook Air, and when I wake from sleep mode the wifi stops working forcing me to restart. Have you encountered this issue?

Would a MacBook 2016 12" be usable with Sonoma? Mine is on monterey right now and it's perfectly fast enough. I use for RU-vid mainly and reddit. The MacBook air in this video clearly can't handle Sonoma with the 4GB of ram, it locked up just loading RU-vid lol, but 8 should be fine right? Or should I stick with Ventura?

Interesting to see you can install Sonoma using Open Core. Wonder how much better the performance would be using Linux Mint Cinnamon desktop? I know you're dedicated to OS-X but Linux might be a better and simpler solution.

I have done this on several computers just for comparison maybe this will be helpful for some people 2012 MacBook Pro 2.5 processor i5 16 GB Ram with an SSD boot up time 45 seconds computer very usable just a little bit of lag next another 2012 MacBook Pro 2.9 processor i7 16 GB Ram SSD boot up time 25 seconds commands are all instantaneous Sonoma on both of them anyway good luck do it they run good if you have enough power on them

Hey, can you try to do an upgrade installation next time instead of clean? Most people like myself would like to simply upgrade the current OS and not lose all their files and apps. I want to see how upgrade installation works!

I just bought a Macbook Air 11 mid 2013 for 100 bucks, my first ever apple device, will try to update to Sonoma :P

The fact that they dropped support for the top end Macbook Pros is ridiculous. Of course a Pro with a much beefier CPU and 4x the RAM should be able to run later OS more easily.

Wow, I am surprised the MacBook Air at 4 gigs of RAM would run Sonoma Smoothly.

when i use xcode it sucks. lags like hell and it can't handle it. also if you have web browser and a few tabs as well as coding IDE, it lags like hell. it's unusable.

I have a 2017 macbook air and it supports Monterey which isn't old yet and works well... I think what is holding back this 2013 model is the 4gb ram. If it had 8 im sure it would do a lot better with the internet. Maybe in a year or two I might also (unofficially) install newer macos version, but I might have to replace the battery first before then :)

I have a 2013 11inch model. Upgraded the i5 CPU to an i7, the RAM to 8GB (the same as Apples current machines!) and a faster NVME m.2 SSD. Used OpenCore to install Monterey. No problems and easily fast enough for my needs.

The biggest issiue will be th rAM in your case. I have a 2013 11inch air with i7 and 8gb, will report my findings ;)

Watch Apple change something in their software to prevent this in the near future..
