After literally watching DOZENS of videos on the air and pro base models this is the ONLY video that actually did explain everything I was personally looking for.. thank you
I have watched so many reviews of this laptop and I have to say I enjoyed yours the most for its honesty and being so easy to relate to. Thank you so much for putting this out here!
Excellent review, same experience using my M1 MB Air 8gb. Weary of all the reviewers testing 8K, multi-layer commercial grade edits etc etc and commenting about being throttled (duh). For avg youtubers, 4K or 1080, MB Air is fine, great in fact. Throw it your backpack, when home plug it into a 4K monitor, done and happy, thanks. (PS: also literally twice as fast and cooler than my MB Pro 2015 16GB, will upload a review soon)
Hello, you are someone who has made a transition from a 2019 to mba, i have few question and perhaps you would be able to help me out, i am currently using a 2012 mbp, and i do 1080 edit and occasional 4k edits about less than a minute duration just a passion, with no issue what so ever, however recently i used one of my cousins 16 inches 2019 i9 i was baffled by the size of the screen, especially for someone who was using 13 inches 2012 for atleast 5 years while searching macbook in the second hand markets i can see 2019 16 inches and macbook air 13 m1 8gb variant, unfortunately there is no 16gb m1 available, and both are similarly priced cant decide should i go for a the large screen a large trackpad or should i go for the macbook air since my kind of workflow is not that daunting, would it actually stress the cpu that much since 2012 only kicked their cpu when i was exporting the project i usually add some musics transitions color correct and add overlays, nit much and the 2012 handles well running on sonoma open core, 16gb ram and 256 gb ssd
Ive been eyeing this laptop for over a year, if apple dont release any macbook air thats greater than this, then I will buy it. Your review was great. Keep it up
You‘re absolutely right, with the 8GB. I also took the Air with 8GB. But I took the 1TB SSD. Was the right decision. The 8GB are enough. Also when I‘m cutting Videos. I took the 1TB because I travel very often… and if I‘m not at home, I don’t like to work with external storages. Works perfect. The best MacBook I‘ve ever had 👍😉
i’ve never used macbook. in my country, Macbook Air M1 with 8/512 is in the same price with Macbook Pro M1 with 8/256 may i know, which one do you recommend? i will use it for Xcode and light Photo / Video Editing.
Well In my country they were both the same price as well. I chose the air with more ssd (hardrive space ). But for coding the pro might give you an edge because of its fan which will prevent thermal throttling if you really push it. So it comes down to your priorities. Mine was space, yours might be slight better performance (although the air is quite capable as well).

I’d say definitely go for the newer M1 chip. The MacBook Air is ahead of the 16” pro even with its 8gb ram. Although you can find it in 16gb but those are custom models (used). If you find the budget, a used 14” m1 with 16gb would be even better but that’s if you find a great deal used (which is possible). Otherwise an air M1 or even simple 13” M1 Pro (very similarly priced to the air only with better thermals as it has a fan) is a great computer to get.
@@Zoonster my budget is tight and as i said i am just a casual video editor not someone who earns money through it, and i am still using a 2012 mbp 13 inches with 16 gb ram, and it gets my work done, unfortunately these models are expensive in my area, the only deal i am getting which are similarly priced are the m1 air with an 8gb and i9 16 inches with 32gb, doesn’t the radeon graphics perform better than the m1 in video editing, or where does it lag, i know i9 was a heating furnace may be from what i have heard but the 15 inch screen size seems impeccable.
@anupammahato1 the air M1 will give better performance than the i9 in my opinion. I’d go for the M1 air 8gb. I switched from the 16” and got the m1 air and was super happy. Now I’m on a 16” M1 Max
@@Zoonster how much performance gain did you see, perhaps your work flow is more complicated than mine, is it good to sacrifice 1tb a gorgeous 16 inch and a first class speaker system for a 13 inch for my occasional video edits, dies watching a movie on the 16 inch ramp up the fan suddenly or make it hit, because i think i would be a casual user who would love to see movies on my laptop on those speaker, how much am i loosing in performance then?
@anupammahato1 the m1 is better for all types of usage as its light, doesn’t get hot and has way way better battery life. Amazing for movies. Only the speakers maybe not as good, but frankly I don’t remember them being less than the 16” if they are.
I personally got the base m1 MacBook for Christmas, 8gb of ram, 7 core gpu and 256gb of storage, haven’t properly gotten a chance to test the ram or cpu to their limits but I just bought a 1tb external ssd, I still not as fast as the internal storage but it’s still more then fast enough for 99% of stuff and it was only €82 on sale, plus it’s very small so I just throw it into my laptop bag if I need the storage 😂
@@Zoonster No that was my second choice, I got a slight sale on the SanDisk 1TB Extreme Portable V2 SSD, when this SSD first launched it had reliability problems but it has all been solved with a firmware update thankfully
one question, I am still planning to buy and i was about to settle for 16gb model and 256gb ssd. since storage is not a big deal for me as I can use external SSDs. but after watching this video, i think i can settle to the base model. 8gb/256GB ssd. do you think it's the best option for me considering that i am on a budget?

@@Zoonster it would be wonderful, I do shoot weddings from time to time using Sony A7r3 so file sizes are heavy, recently I sold my desktop pc to become more mobile with photo editing and this 13 m1 could be a good option, that kind of video about batch photo editing would be highly appreciate, thank you!
Does anyone use Microsoft edge on Mac ? I am using Edge on my new Macbook Pro M1 and it's super laggy when I switch between apps, is there any wrong about it ? Should I return this ?
Returned my MacBook Pro 14 and got the MacBook Air M1 256gb for 800 bucks at Best Buy. Really happy with my decision to save 1200 bucks. Thanks for the review!
@@raulgaming1000 The value of the MacBook Air is incredible. I had no complaints about the Pros performance. I honestly didn’t need that kind of power for the occasional video, podcast, stream, etc. another pro of the air (no pun intended) is that it’s very comfortable to sit on the couch and type something up due to its slim design.
could nt agree more with you ... i ordred both mac book air (16/512) and pro m1 14 , air is so much slim, easy to handle .. my mind was pushing me for Pro m1 14 but hearth said keep air , atlast heart WON :)@@thedennylondonshow5593
Hello. Sorry I'm not very well and ok in English and I cant decide to buy MacBook Air M1. I want do photoshop, InDesign, illustrator and etc. with this MacBook. And now I want to know this MacBook Air M1 8 ram and 512ssd its ok for this app and can I do programming with this laptop. Generally I want do two work with laptop: 1. Work with those app(photoshop, illustrator , InDesign) 2. do programming
This can handle it, but if you push it hard then it throttles a bit (15-20%). For programming this works ok, some people do recommend to go with the pro or with 16gb ram for programming, although you could probably get away with this machine and 8gb ram if your work is not too intensive.
I'm very pro hardshell case. I sold this one in 'like new condition' cause of that case! And now have a 16" M1 Max and the first thing I got was a hardshell case. No scratches etc to worry about.
