Man what a hard choice. great video, this helps in my deciding process. Never had a macbook before. I have been working on an ipad pro 12.9 for a while now and i’m pretty happy with it. But I can still only do so much with the ipad. Honestly the biggest thing is being able to have multiple monitors. Going to get a macbook but i can’t decide 14” or 16” and if i should go M1 on a discount or go all in for M2. Im a professional photographer and videographer running 4k video editing with Resolve and Premiere.

Same exact dilemma lol. I have a 24" external monitor that I use everyday, but often (especially on weekends) I spend the night watching TV/anime in the dining room or on my bed. I don't yet have a setup that would allow me to watch TV from my bed with a large monitor display in front of me and don't see myself doing that anytime soon. My external monitor sits on my desk setup and I'm usually away from there on the weekends. Having the extra screen estate would be so nice. The only thing making me second guess the 16" is I don't really like the form factor (the keyboard with the massive speakers beside it just looks ugly imo) compared to the 14", and in case I do decide to go to graduate school (still don't know), a 14" would be a lot better for portability. But at the same time, I'd much rather have a bigger screen for coding and school work. So gotta make a sacrifice here. 14" sacrificing the bigger screen screen, or a 16" sacrificing portability. 🤷‍♂

@@axcend6519 If you’re going to college for 4 years, it might be better to go with the 14”. I’m not really 100% sure if I’m going to graduate school, hence I’m considering the 16”. I rocked a 14” Lenovo Yoga during my university years. Cheers buddy :)

Very un-Apple to not update the wallpaper on the box images, but at least we now have color-matched MagSafe cables. Not sure if it has that mysterious accelerometer that the M2 NotchBook Air has.

@@theblackhand6485 Apple would never do such a thing. The only reason Space Gray had a silver cable on the 2021 is because they haven't made color-matched ones yet, for any MacBook.

I got the base model 14-inch Pro I really like it so far. I know some talk about the slower SSD but it seems to still be a great laptop. Does anyone else have the 14-inch base model? I felt I did not need the additional cores or power, it was overkill for me.

I recently bought the base model 14 m2 pro. I was initially influenced by the various negative reviews, then i realized that which made no sense to me. The slower SSD compared to the previous model is not a tragedy, both because it is still very fast and responsive, and because the faster speed of the previous model would ONLY be noticed if you transferring a very huge amounts of data to an external SSD (or from an external SSD) that was faster than the internal SSD... which NEVER happens! Anyway, 3 - 3.5GB/s is more than enough to ensure efficient swapping. On the other hand, performances has definitely improved and, as demonstrated by Max Tech tests, performance in "low power mode" are perfectly identical to those of the base 14 M1 Pro full power mode.This is truly amazing for me! I don't know if I would recommend buying it at full price from the Apple site, but I paid €500 less than Apple site and at that price it's a great choice!

I’m thinking about this. I’m a iPad Pro and Windows user. I’m fed up with Windows 11 as a whole, but I also use a iPad. The software is fine but also very limited, and I’m hitting the roadblock for needing a new laptop. I currently own one of those Windows PCs that was prebuilt. The specs are okay for web browsing and that’s about it, I am eying the 14-inch MacBook Pro but that Max Tech video this morning put me off of the M2 a bit due to the SSD issues. To me, it’s not a big deal but I don’t want that to be in the back of my mind when buying this machine. What should I do? I don’t need the M2 Max chip but I do want these MacBook Pros for all of the benefits the M2 Air doesn’t offer. Ports, screen, & etc.

If you're planning to only do web browsing, and really want a Mac, go for one of the older models, otherwise I guess just stick with Windows

@@ZikedY Let me clarify: I’m not only doing web browsing. I’m saying that my PC is only good at web browsing, since the lack of power to anything that demands the chip that’s inside of it. It’s a PC with no graphics card, it’s a old prebuilt that is on its last legs. I want to do more, but I can’t or I’ll be sitting there waiting on loading times or it’ll be unresponsive. Windows 11 was the biggest mistake I’ve ever done to it. It was running GREAT on Windows 10 but now it has gone to iOS 13 beta levels of bugs, which was so bad on my iPhone, I couldn’t even type on it. And on the public releases, I had more bugs than ever. As for the Windows PC, I’m not sure I’ll ever be on another PC. I’m using the iPad and the iPhone, might as well get a Mac. I think macOS 13 addressed all my issues, and now it’s smoother than ever. I don’t hear any issues online about it, only the occasional security issues (which is patched in a week or two). Good advice though, web browsing doesn’t need a M2 Pro/Max chip - let alone a M1 chip.

I like them both nearly got the 16 inch but got a 14 m2 with 64 go ram speed and 1 tb storage ya that’s a 16 price but the 14 is just my needs with the upgrade worth every penny but pricy compared my old 512 8 gb ram 2013 mbp I do miss the cd dvd drive but I’m more a streamer now

How does the 15 inch MacBook Air M2 24ram vs 16 inch MacBook Pro 16ram compare? I don’t want to waste 2,500 on a MacBook Pro 16 inch if I can get the air for 700 less. Still shocked the SSD speeds are slow for what they charge for storage upgrades. 3K MB/s is fast no doubt but my 980 Pro m.2 is 6700 MB/s read and write is 4900 MB/s on sequential tests. $180 for the 2 TB model on Newegg. Apple charges you $600 to go from the 512GB base storage to 2 TB. At least give people some real PCI gen 4 speeds for the money.

I've had a 14" M2 for a few weeks now and I'm starting to hate the sharp edges on the machine. When I go between typing on the keyboard and using the trackpad, my right hand moves down and to the left a little so that my fingers are centered on the trackpad but that puts the fleshy part of my palm right on the sharp edge. After a few hours of using the laptop, my palm gets kinda sore and achey. I was wondering if the larger trackpad on the 16" would help with that problem - the extra inch in vertical palm rest area would be great. Also, since the trackpads have palm rejection, I think the 16" trackpad would be even better since I could rest my palm on the trackpad itself. The 14" trackpad is too small for both my fingers and palm to fit comfortably without contorting my hand or wrist - which causes more strain. I was kinda sold on the portability of the 14" but I can't justify spending so much money on a machine that hurts to use. I think I'm going to try exchanging for the 16" to see if that helps with this issue.

@sebastianvette1 I did. It definitely helped with the larger area to rest your palms. The 16" is noticeably heftier, but I'm mostly using it at home, so I don't mind so much. If I were traveling with it, I would definitely prefer the 14". For at home use/hooked up to a monitor, the 16" is better.

@sebastianvette1 I think the base MacBook Pro should be more than enough for your needs. The 14" I got at first was the 12cpu/19gpu 16gb and it was very responsive and never bogged down from lots of browser tabs, a couple IDEs, and most software engineering tasks I threw at it. Swap memory on these machines is so good. I don't do video editing but I did manage to make it bog down when trying to run docker and having a vm running but that's asking a lot for 16gb. When I upgraded to the 16" I opted for the max because I wanted 32gb of memory and the M2 Max was the only one in the store with 32gb. That configuration was blazing fast and never slowed down no matter what I threw at it. For kicks I had my normal workload and I tried running a few steam games and it handled running 2 games with everything else running! Amazing machines. The only drawback is the battery goes much faster with the max chips, for me it was about an hour or two shorter. But even then it lasts longer than most competing laptops. You will definitely appreciate the 120hz promotion on the macbook pros. I say go for the macbook pro base, you will love it. Where I live, the Apple store gives you two weeks to use the laptop and you can always exchange for a different model or return it if it doesn't work out so that's pretty nice. What does your typical usage consist of? I'd say no, not unless you have been noticing slowdowns lately. Wait for M3, that's when I think it'll be a great time to upgrade the M1 machines

Surprised your keyboard had an issue--I've never heard any post-butterfly keyboards fail before. Best to never attempt to repair the keys yourself and take it to the Genius Bar instead.

Buying one for college! I was going to get the 16” M2 Max MacBook Pro with 96GB Ram Memory and 1TB. I like the GPU core at 38 cores, it’s crazy good for anything I wanna throw at it. Been a Mac guy for many years but the M series has a major flaw...the screens are way too fragile and crack very easily and Apple will blame you for it. They claimed crumbs on the keyboard broke the screens on my M1 and M2. Uh yeah, crumbs. How about inferior design Apple?? They didn't cover repair on my M1. Covered M2 only because I bought Apple Care. As a long time Apple addict I can no longer trust this company to be honest and produce a durable product. I'm not the only one...Google it up. Hopefully the proper touchscreen MacBooks rumored for a 2025 release will be better received. People who don't touch the screen won't even know it's there and won't be forced to use it, so I think this will be touch on the MacBook done right. If you have an iPad, you can use Sidecar to display a Touch Bar on the iPad.
