Glowing apple logo should be brought back, that's what is the most beautiful thing of macbook, and removing ports isn't good idea, it's totally a bullshit.
I really like the 15" 2016 MBP but the price is just ridiculous, base price of $3599AUD here in Australia, I'm just glad I'm able to get an education discount, still doesn't offset the price by much, dropping it down to $3369AUD. Currently own a base model mid 2012 15" rMBP which cost me $2249AUD. Apart from the price everything looks really good. USB Type-C doesn't really bother me as it is where things are heading, it's what I use on my phone already and I have OTG adapters already. If I wasn't saving for my Japan trip next year I'd be saving for this and buying it ASAP. Very impressed with everything except price.
Alright sorry for the comment then, I didnt know that. I just saw other users and sites reporting that Apple is trying to get social media influencers to say positive things about the new macbook to increase sales.
+wazzuppoo no problem. I think a lot of people misunderstand and think apple is paying people if the review is positive. The MacBook is actually decent, but way too expensive.
my macbook pro 13 early 2015 with 16G RAM runs out of memory pretty quick(with 2 or 3 apps open) usually like 1 or 2GB left. meanwhile my windows 10 pc(8GB RAM) with 20chrome tabs, steam, and a few games running, never run out of memory. it has a slower cpu but runs much faster than my macbook.
+jorge santos why would you allocate all of your ram to the VM's. The majority of people who run many VM's use server hardware with tons of ram and storage.
I'm in in your channel, and i love your reviews, it's very detailed. Can you advise me, it's my first time purchasing a laptop. I'm confused between Asus Zenbook 3 1TB SSD and 16GB Ram vs. 2016 MacBook Pro base model 256GB, 8GB Ram no touch bar. This 2 laptop i mentioned is same price here in Saudi Arabia. Which one is the best for my money?
Not talking to the reviewer- it was a great review indeed. Just talking to the isheep out there. I cant believe that one of the biggest gripes Apple iSheep have is that the Apple logo does not light up and they cant show off their shiny little toys anymore!!! "it told other people that this was something different". How Pathetic! Do you have any idea how pathetic, cheap and disturbing that illuminated logo is to others who are trying to sleep on a long haul flight in a dark cabin or any other dark environment? And no I am not a window user. Have about a dozen Apple gadgets in home- including this MacBook Pro 2016 13 inch 1TB SSD, 16GB RAM. And I am about to get the new 13 inch touch-bar model- same specs as above. THANK GOD they got rid of that nonsensical illuminated "apple logo". Good Riddance. I was sick of that cheap trinket. PS: You iSheep do realize that it was only a cut-out in the 'aluminum' body and it was the screen light showing through the cutout, and the logo never really was "illuminated" in real sense?
well that's cool, but I meant data scientists or similar. I am a statistician and I work with lots of data. I have a MBP 15 inch early 2011 which is still rocking, but it's getting the time to replace it so I am wondering which version would be the best for my usage (2016 vs 2015)
Could you try to use the keyboard+trackpad with only your left hand (that's my problem, I have a crippled arm). I would like to know what happens (when you want to switch to the right part of the keyboard (like u/i/o/p)) to the trackpad, since it's so big with the new Pro. I hope you can try this for me :)
+MZ Cubing that depends, The 15 inch is more powerful but it's larger. If you don't need a dedicated graphics card and a quad core processor then get the 13 inch
+Quinton Cannataci you won't see major speed improvements, but if you want it for the better screen, touchbar and USB-c then it's good. Otherwise wait until they update the processors later this year
Sorry to deflect from your review here but you seem to know your stuff and I'm desperate for help on how to fix my Spanish Mac book pro keyboard. The symbols don't correlate mostly, some do and the letters and numbers are fine it's just the things like forward slash and a multitude of other symbols that aren't in the right place.Would you know how to fix this? or anyone else who could help?I'd really appreciate your help.I guess I should post on a forum but this was an impulse thing and apologies for detracting from your review.
Yep,I did that as soon as I got it.English is my main language and Spanish as the second.I'll have a fiddle around in System Preferences again and see if it makes a difference.
Hey, If I'd be buying the MBP 15" 2016 with this config, would it still be reliable for video editing using FCPX? (Or should I just consider the MBP 13" version) 2.6GHz quad-core Intel Core i7 processor, 3.5GHz 16GB 2133MHz memory *256GB PCIe-based SSD (I'll buy an external drive instead) **Radeon Pro 460, 4GB memory (maybe the only upgrade I'll pay for?) I often get my video clips from my GoPro set at, 1080p and 4k all the time and I also use Adobe Lightroom for my photography using raw files. So considering these factors, should I get the 15" or the 13"? What should I upgrade for my needs (if I need to)? Thanks!
+Planet Poseidon it's plenty fast for editing that content. I often times still use a 2013 MacBook Pro and it handles it no problem. I have also used the 201613 inch MacBook Pro and it also handles 4K video without an issue.
zollotech Thank you for looking into this and giving me choices! I needed help from a pro cause I was having a hard time understanding the specs. This helped a lot! :)
hey i have a 2015 pro 13 inch 500 gig and a 2015 pro 15 inch 256 gigs can i swap 500 gigs to the 15 and 256 to the 13 inch i never use the 13 inch so i want to put in the 15 inch thanks
Is it a compromise though? I feel that they could have easily have put all the old IO on it. I feel like Apple is making a product that will force the market of hardware developers to adopt usbC integration much faster. This is reminiscent of the removal of the floppy disc drive or CD drives on previous models of theirs. I know when the original MacBook Air came out people freaked out in a very similar way, saying Apple had lost their minds and were going downhill. Now that form factor is the standard.
I have a late 2013 MBP 13" that I upgraded the beginning of this year to a 27" 5K iMac (late 2015 model) For me the iMac is a better deal then a new Macbook Pro at this point as I prefer a desktop over a laptop. I got the top line standard configuration with the core i5 3.3 Ghz turbo up to 3.9 (quad core skylake) standard 8GB Ram 2 TB fusion drive AMD R9 M395 graphics. I got 32 GB ram from Amazon via 2 16 GB kits with 2 8 GB sticks each. I got a ups for battery backup and AppleCare for a little under $3,000. I'm really pleased with the setup and the way I was able to balance costs and got a good all around price for the whole setup instead of just putting one big chunk into one thing and then spending extra that I didn't need to. Great video as always, have a great day!
Do you actually own and have taken plenty of time using it with your own applications....or are you posting an "opinion" from a distance as most other Apple haters. Getting tired of these people who have never used something to express their uneducated opinions about it.
It's my first Apple laptop, and i am loving it, and after transfering some 8 gigs from an USB-C pen in less than a minute, i don't complain about the ports anymore, and the display and the sound are the best in the market.

Touch bar, giant trackpad, oh God. How many gimmicks is Apple going to introduce before they finally decide to just make a fucking touchscreen Mac? It's so obvious that they want to be right in this stupid decision of going against the whole market. Please, surrender already.
Oh really? What would you be plugging in so much while you're on the go? I hear this argument and honestly it seems more of a cop out rant. Most people do their editing at home or possibly taking their camera on the go with them to edit which only needs one USB plug. So tell me what are all these peripherals that you would be plugging in while on the go that concerns you about needing to carry so many adapters? I'm waiting...
Wesley Jordan Why is the comment aimed at photographers / video makers? I'm an engineer and fortunately I don't have to trouble much but others j work with do. They would need different adapters for different video sources they might need at customer sites, ethernet adapters, maybe a USB C adapter incase they need to plug in a memory stick etc. I'm desk bound mainly so having all of the adapters wouldn't be too annoying but I can see why for some it would be. Due to the price increase anyway even my employer (huge huge IT company) is possibly not rolling out these new MBP to staff due to the added cost of the laptop and the adapters.
oli3659 There hasn't been a Macbook Pro for years with an ethernet plug built in. Therefore an adapter would be needed for your friend's usages. But since you mentioned that your friends would be going to customer's sites, then at this point this adapter argument is really silly. A professional carries his tools with him and if little adapters are a problem then those people don't take their work seriously. At the end of the day the computer is still doing the work, you're just connecting the proper equipment to it. Is that so hard? I actually never said a word about video editing. Not sure why you brought that up. But since I did mention about photography, ever see a photographer with a crap load of lenses, tripods, monopods, speedlights, multiple memory cards, etc. Those are a photographers tools that they have to carry with them when they do weddings. They deal with it because it gets the job done, and yes I do photography and it's tough job carrying all of that around. I don't see how a few adapters to connect your Macbook Pro is really that bothersome. Oh the irony in today's computer users. They call themselves so computer literate and will go as far as build a computer, but they cry about a few adapters to connect. SMH.
Thanks. It's tough for me to listen to reviewers yell and scream about the minimal battery life, useless touchbar, and loud keys when typing. I don't find myself connectng too much to my macbook pro. Yet, purchasing adapters seem costly to me as well. I appreciate Apple's attempt to innovate a design that no one else has. Now, if I can only cough up the bucks to buy one:)!
I don't even think the first part of the statement is necessarily true. On older macs with 4GB RAM I've given a few family members computers new life with Windows, macOS seems the heftier OS nowadays. Besides, the OS is only 1-2GB out of whatever large scale project is using a lot of RAM, on the high end the OS matters less.
I recently purchased a new MacBook Pro, and went through three different ones before I made my decision. I started with a 2016 13" non-TB version; it was nice, but I needed a bigger screen. I then got the 2015 base model 15 inch, which was more powerful, but the unibody was defective, it had a terrible creak to it. I couldn't even rest my palms while typing without the machine creaking, even pressing the track pad had the same effect; turns out that many people have this issue with rMBPs. So I finally made the jump to a 2016 15 inch, and I'm beyond pleased. Yes the machine is more than a base 2015 15 inch, but it's the same price as the dGPU version of the 2015 rMBP. But it also has a better keyboard, speakers, screen, it's thinner, and better performance than the base 2015 15" model as well. Of course this is all personal preference, but for somebody who's buying a new macbook for the first time since 2011, the 2016 version is an excellent purchase over the 2015 model with a dGPU.
the Touch bar is a disgusting joke and Tim Cook should be fired right away, Jobs would never ever approve to this stupidest idea in the entire apple history.
The whole 2016 mac book pro is the stupidest thing in the entire history getting rid of the glowing logo and replacing the usb to usb-c also the start up chime is now gone now it's all about the dongles and the inconvenience paying a lot more than the previous generation and getting a lot less in return the battery life on this is terrible. The touch bar like you said is a joke you can get the options that are already on the screen where your eyes should be rather than looking down at the keyboard the whole thing is a gimmick.
DSLR's the modern ones all file transfer via wifi so that is what apple is thinking about that's why no SD card slot, also you don't need dongles you just need the right devices and cables, and if you need the connectivity still get a DOCK!! Not adapters like a hydra dock for example has everything you need and all you take is one item
I won't be buying this computer this time around. I have a mid 2012 rMBP (1st gen) that has served me well for the past four years, I waited what seemed like forever for a new, faster macbook pro. Apple just haven't delivered, removing ports that creative pros rely on, and putting a rubbish, underpowered AMD GPU in there that could be outdone in so many ways by nvidia's more powerful and more efficient architecture. The CPU I can live with, I know Intel haven't moved on much with performance in laptop CPUs, the 3720QM is only a touch slower than the 6700HQ. But Apple also raised the price to just stupid levels. There's no value in these products anymore. I have since bought a 14 inch Razer blade with the same CPU and a GTX 1060 - and some usable ports - but we'll see what life is like without macOS. I used to love Apple products, they were the pinnacle of design and build quality. They sort of still are, but they're not professional machines anymore. Just chic products for brainwashed consumers.
Using 7.5GB - when opening programs with no projects loaded into them. If you're using FCPX alone, you can pass 16GB usage on 4K edits. The fast SSD will usually be enough for most people, but for serious large scale edits 32GB would be appreciated.
Don't get me wrong, for sure the majority of complainers never pass these limits, lol. But I'm talking feature length edits, were I assume you mostly do youtube length.
I can't wait to buy the Rose Gold MacBook. As someone who has never owned a Mac I think it will be just fine for me because I won't be sitting there thinking about what the old keyboard was like or how this or that was better on the one last year or the year before. None of that for me because it will ALL be new! All be away from Windows that I hate!
I had been looking to replace my 2008 17" MBP. I admit I think the new models are very sexy, but I haven't seen any review that gives it two big thumbs up. So I went with a virtually new but used 2015.
Casey Perkins Please give me some feedback. I'm considering buying the 15 inch Macbook Pro with touch bar. Is it worth upgrading to 1000gb SSD and 2.9GHz ? I want this machine to be semi-future proof and last me a good couple years. I plan on doing some video/ photo editing. Any tips are appreciated! 🙏🏼
When looking at ram usage in activity monitor you want to subtract the section "cached files" from "memory used". macOS will put files from the SSD into RAM like a ramdisk to speed things up and the computer will do this to always keep at least half of the memory full.
This is an awesome and well balanced review. The ram discussion is so annoying and I don't know how many people actually use over 16 gigs of RAM. Also, the whole dongle thing is way too overstated. You can get a Dongle that does basically most of those from Amazon for $49. Also GeekBench is as you said very deceiving when comparing to real life performance. So many tech bloggers who hate Apple just cause they think it's cool to won't even do a proper review and rely on GeekBench for their angle. But again, great vid. I will subscribe! :)
*2020 MacBook Pro: 0 ports, and an entirely digitised keyboard*. I can't stand the thin keypad, it's ridiculous! The spongey feel of models prior to 2016 were so much better, wtf is Apple thinking up there?!
the only thing is dislike is that apple did NOT include the USB-C adapter inside the box. Theyre selling it separately, knowing that we NEED the adapter. If they included USB-C adapter in the first place i dont think it anyone would complain since the USB-C actually speed things up
rizky orbandi the problem then is that producers of accessories will not have the incentive to make them use the USB-c as their standard. You sometimes have to force the market and in 2-3 years time all new printers, scanners, cameras will have USB-c connections. Yes for early adopters it may be more expense, but if you are paying $3000 for a laptop you shouldn't complain about paying a bit more. Anyway I already have the adapters for my MacBook so I don't need to buy any for a MacBook Pro. People will always moan, you can please some of the people some of the time...
What about someone coming from a 12" MacBook 2016 who was waiting for the pro for a while and bought the 12" I could sell the 12". The 15" looks amazing in person, that screen is awesome. It would be the base model 15 I don't need the specs tbh, just love the screen.
The MacBook Pro 2016 is my first mac and i dont have any reasons to complain about USB Type C. I Love it. It keeps the mac flat and if i Need it i can Plug in my USB Stick wich has Type A and c or i use a dongle who cares? My PC mainboard has USB Type c too so i can use my stuff there too
I like your videos a lot and the new intro is great, but saying this is "better than you thought" and then not being sincerely able to recommend it to 2015 MacBook users is kinda weird. And what "PRO" stands for? One looks PRO if carrying a bag full of dongles around? USB-C only is a 2019. thing, at the moment it is ridiculous, especially with the current accessory prices.
+Stefan Ivanovic Apple calls their more expensive laptops Pro. It's a good laptop, but I cannot recommend it for that price. USB-C will be everywhere within 6-12 months and apple has always pushed connectivity or lack there of forward.
zollotech USB c will be every where in 3 years not in six months I got the 2015 MacBook 💻 I will upgrade in 4 years all my stuff is USB 3 n all works good till 3 more years r so
+TEXAZPITBULL that just depends what you use today. Most new Windows PCs have at least one USB C port and just about every Mac. While almost every android phone has one now.
+TEXAZPITBULL also, most Businesses upgrade every three years, so depending where they are in the lifecycle of that can make a difference.. However, since everything has it you'll see a lot more accessories with it soon.
My Mac is 2012, is the regular Macbook Pro without the touchbar pretty much the same as the one with it just minus the touch bar? Also my 2012 Macbook pro has super low volume, cant even her it without headphones.
thanks for your awesome vid, Ive got a quick question, Im on the fence between 2017 13 with touch bar $1800 and 15 with touch bar $2400. I will be using Final Cut pro for editing, and all my vid will be less than 10min. would it be ok to go with 13inch or go with 15inch?
Hey nice video. Im looking for a new laptop mainly for watching movies, browsing and listening to music and for something will last for at least 5-10 years. Im not in to games or video editing, sometimes i do photo shop. At the moment i have 17' windows laptop but its crashing all the time after updating to windows 10 and its so anointing, im sick of window thats why im thinking of switching to mac. Would you recommend anything?
Good review and I generally agree with your assessment. I upgraded from a 2013 to a 2016 MBP and I'm pretty pleased. The form-factor, screen, fingerprint sensor and overall performance are my favorite aspects of the laptop. While the new keyboard took me a few days to get used to, I now find my typing experience to be excellent. While the touch bar is interesting, the addition of the fingerprint sensor is incredibly useful. Aside from unlocking the laptop, the ability to access OS functions with my fingerprint, where a password would usually be required, is very nice. Also, the added benefit of Apple Pay is both convenient and much more secure than punching my credit card into websites. For me, this laptop was a good upgrade and I believe it to be a worthy successor in the venerable MBP line.
Hey there I have a question for you, I saw you were using a 2013 MacBook Pro 15 there (I think) I was wondering can you run dual 4k at 60hz connected via mini DP to DP ? I know this is an random question 👽 I'm trying to consider if this is worth upgrading too or not. Thank you for your videos and for your time 🤓
I've found the most use for the Touch Bar on Microsoft Word Online. You can choose audio correct way after. You can fast forward ads on RU-vid, you can fast forward videos on Instagram. The speakers are awesome and overall the quality of build is nice. Touch ID is a major plus as we;l. Ill get used to the PhotoShop use in time.
I'm loving mine too a lot coming from a 2012 rMBP. The price is totally fair IMO. Apple's MBP is the best machine on the market by far and other lesser makers are charging similar prices for much inferior devices. Much of the noise people were making when this was released was from people who haven't even used the machine.
+rob hovhannisyan. 2013 it was a year after they change to the previous design. It had updated processors and similar performance to the 2015 models it's almost identical. It also looks exactly the same.
Where did they try to save a few bucks? It was all compromise for thinness. That's why they used USB-C, that's why they removed the glowing apple logo and that's why then went with a low TDP GPU.
Sterling Jordan I do, I have had a PowerBook, MacBook in my life since the 100. So if I'm saying, I've moved on, there is something wrong. As such I simply felt the competition provided me more with what I wanted and frankly needed. Not the end of the world, maybe Apple will release something I want in the future, that's the great thing about competition.
I got mine10 days ago (switched from a MBP 2012) and I agree with Your findings in general. When this machine was announced I was a bit disappointed because of the lack of 'kick ass' improvements but just a few cosmetic gimmicks but I needed a new machine and so I went with it. I like the keyboard, the screen (much better colours) and the touch bar is slowly growing on me. That big touch pad does nothing extra for me and the price of that machine is a clean rip off, no doubt about that ( I knew that beforehand ). I think it's a good computer but nothing mind blowing.
Hi Aaron, Apple claims that we can charge the MacBook Pro from any of the usb ports provided, does it mean we can charge the MacBook Pro simultaneously with multiple chargers to increase the speed of the charging?
No, it will only except a charge from one input but it can be any of them. If you plug in another it just ignores the voltage coming in in picks the highest voltage
zollotech omg you replied thank you so so so so much. I also have a RU-vid channel called RS GAMING the logo is a guy cartoon with glasses. It would mean a lot if you could check it out. Thanks a lot for replying. Great channel. Can't wait to tell my family and friends about your channel and tell them to subscribe to your channel
