I'm a new subscriber and I'm really impressed by how entertaining and conversational your videos are. Despite the diy production quality, your channel is much more entertaining than 99% of other youtubers. If you happen to see this comment, I wonder if you could talk about how you stay motivated to work hard at all your jobs until 2am every day in a future video.
Glad I watched some parts again. Missed your reply on the Microscope mount due to the stream having issues on my end. Good point on the usability vs. stability point. I'll have to keep that in mind when I get my own microscope.
I'm fixing this exact issue right now. Water damage around LCD backlight driver. Waiting on the driver as I don't stock chips (as I'm just a hobbyist at the moment). Will keep this headache in mind when I get the driver in. I think the same model as well, late 2012 MacBook Pro Retina.
I saw your vid on relationships. This video is so absorbing that I forget all about any problems. As I use my pc I always think what hath man wrought? The thousands of unnamed people and the millions of man hours that went into concept and developement so useful inventions can be used. I am astounded.
The capacitor in question was C8358 and was listed NOT on the page with the U7700 backlight driver but instead on the page with J8300 - the internal display connector, and was creating a short to ground on the I2C_BLKT_SDA line, effectively preventing communication with the logic board. Check both of those pages of the schematic if you have display issues!
I didn't watch your videos from when you started streaming and you almost already learned how to properly solder, well... almost. :D 40 minutes video like in good old times - thank you for getting out of your way to save some of my time, i appreciate it :)
*29:07** is when the cap comes up for those that want to know.* There are certainly other board repairs and diagnoses being made before then, but this is what the thumbnail talks about.
At 1:02, be careful to use the proper term. LVDS is a physical signal format, of which DisplayPort actually uses as well. Annoyingly some LCD manufacturers use LVDS to mean FPD-Link. As for why the no image symptom, for those interested, the the protocol DP uses is packetized, so if you have an issue with the transmission medium, a lot of the packets will be corrupted and not produce much if any image.
Hey Louis i have a MacBook Pro A1502 that is powering on, I have sound and picture true the hdmi but nothing on the screen. No water damage any advice or how much do you charge to get it working. Thanks. In advance.
I laughed my ass off when you found that cap that you dinna see on the schema. hah, good one louis. this is so entertaining, I can't tell you. better than a beer hall any day.
hey louis, this is offtopic from this repair, but in a lot of your repair, you remove the "jtag", can you briefly explain what it does, what's problem does it cause, and why removing it won't affect the board. thank you
customer took them back weeks ago, didn't want to wait for me to get the chips/parts in, in spite of me being upfront that i didn't have them. oh well.
I just hope she doesn't take them to some place that charges her $800 for their "time" and "labor" and don't fix the issue. Your no-fix, no-fee model is really the best way for electronics repair to operate.
I have an A1502 with no backlight (black screen, logo won’t lid, keyboard lights come on, works on external monitor and I can see the text on the screen when a flashlight is used). It happened right after I dropped the MacBook (it was in a soft pouch so the impact damage shouldn’t be too bad. May I know what is the most likely fault? Any chance of an easy fix?
I have a Mid 2014 A1502 13 inch and a broken LCD. LCD still light up and can see 75% of the image with backlight except for the damage area. I replaced the LCD with an late 2012 A1502 panel which was working but after installation, there is no back light (has image). I swapped back the old broken LCD and it worked .. so I gather that it is not a board issue. Then I swapped a 3rd working LCD from an early 2013 LCD .. still no backlight (has image). Is this because 2012 and 2013 retina LCDs are not compatible with mid 2014 A1502? Or is it just the cable connectors dirty? Please advise. Thanks.
is there an "easy fix" for a 2010 macbook pro that displays green and pink colors? I changed the color settings on through settings which took away the pink colors, but I still have the green colors.
You can't kill an i2c SDA line by pulling it to ground, since the outputs are open drain. Otherwise you wouldn't need pull-up resistors at all. The cap is innocent, apologize to it.
Louis Rossmann ok, forget about the appology joke, but the whole idea behind i2c is that any device on the bus can pull the clock or data low any time, so you don't have to worry about things like bus-turnaround time etc. It's called a "wired-and". There is just no way that the capacitor blew the output of the sda driver by shorting it to gnd. Maybe the solder ball was creating a short to a supply rail? edit: Looking at the photo, I don't think it can short to a power rail where it it is sitting... You also don't know if you had this short on the old chip.
I understand. That is why this genuinely confused me. There is the coincidence that the 2nd led driver i put on from the donor had a bad sda line but a good scl line, but that seems too much trolling to me. :(
Guys ill be buying "gaming"laptop for next year for about i guess 1450$ ,i mean it is cheaper in US but here in Serbia its much more expensive. Which one is best for this value,i know few like Lenovo y520 or Dell Inspirion 15 7000,but im not really sure. Also do laptops get cheaper over time or they stay at the same value and one last thing,i dont plan on playing games like Witcher 3,ill be mostly playing Dota 2,Wow and few others(i wanna play them on the better quality and more fps)..?? Thankiesss
hello Louis Please tell me the solution of MacbookAir display wires are shorted and because of this brightness of display is dim but display is working. i am not able to solve it. Please tell me what can i do for it.
hey louis - thanks for your video - actually working on this situation right now. here is a link to the part you replaced (for future viewers) - mailin.repair/b4-lp8548b1sq.html how important is the designator after the LP8548B1SQ >>> 03 or in my case 04 are those extra numbers simply versions? is the 03 compatible if pulling a 04? your listing shows a 03, and your vid shows you pulling a 04. i noticed your listing did not make that distinction, so would normally assume that it was not an issue, but wanted to put the question to you and nail it down. thanks for sharing. i also linked your video to an appropriate post in one of the forums where this topic was being discussed.
You should really change the way, you talk about Mosfets as switches. Throughout the electronics world, a switch is closed, when it allows current to flow, and it's open, when it block any current flow. For some reason, you developed an opposing analogy (something like a door, that allows flow when open). This is contrary to the common undestanding of switch positions, which is not necessarily wrong, but very confusing at least, especially for ppl, who don't understand electronics that well. Your explanation will always be confusing with any other explanation that ppl might come across.
Wow Louis, so if I was come to you and offer you a group spot with your own programme on national TV, doing what you do right now, and offered you $25,000 a month, and great bonuses, you'd totally sell out. How would you break the news to your adoring fans?
