Just one small difference between the season one in the box said it’s a small thing but I figured I’d mention it to you this is on boxer the covered on the back of it has a description of the episodes And some artwork the box that has none of that on the inside cover I just thought it was a cool touch they should’ve added
This is one of my favorite shows ever. It's great that they kept the original aspect ratio! Bravo! I'm so tired of all the shows lately making a horrible 16x9 zoomed crop these last years (Seinfeld, Simpsons, Buffy, etc) because they look completely awful, well, except if more of the image is added, otherwise is horrible when they cut big chunks top and bottom.

I am glad after a month of hard work & some waiting to finally have gotten this special review completed for all of you to watch. A little behind the scenes: I was up till 3:30am last night working hard all day & night on finishing up this review. This set was so great because it’s a huge remaster and is such a great TV series that Paramount put a lot of hard work & Love into remastering & releasing correctly on this great Blu Ray set. Unlike the Mill Creek IDOJ debacle. I was so excited to share this review of MacGyver with you because I knew it looked so great!
Oh I'll take the Blu ray version of mcgyver James great video man I'm bed ridden so I need something good to hear and see I absolutely love the original mcgyver I grew up watching that show and I can still watch episodes on it on my satellite tv
This Remastered Blu Ray release of MacGyver was such a drastic improvement & definitely was exciting especially after the big letdown that I Dream of Jeannie Blu Ray was. I have really been enjoying this show as it’s been a huge trip down memory lane, I also grew up watching this show and have always loved its clever writing. I was originally worried this wasn’t going to turn out so well under this new remaster but man was I happy after I started working through this set & testing it out. It breathes new life into this great classic series and under this new remaster looks great.🥳 Also sorry to hear you are sick, I hope you feel better soon, hope it isn’t it anything serious!
@@InSearchofPhysicalMedia Yeah thanks James it's not Covid or anything like that I have it's just that I tend to eat a lot of sugar which causes gout a swelling in the joints of someone I have it different places sometimes my hands and feet it's not something I wish upon anyone it's extremely painful but I think some mcgyver should help me get through this lol 😅

We finally finished the MacGyver set and loved it! I especially liked how they restored the 2 SD movies. Not as great as the HD episodes, but the quality on the bluray disc was better then I expected for SD. This really is a great set to have in your collection! :)

Awesome to know that they did this release justice. Great show that I grew up on but have not seen for many many years. Look forward to picking this up and revisiting ... Should be a great nostalgia trip! Of course your vid contains another top notch review/analysis which I really enjoy and appreciate. Nice stuff indeed. Although I have a region free player it's cool to know they've made this release region free.
I will admit, I don't have a Blu-Ray player and can't afford one being 15, so I'm stuck with the DVDs edited on videotape like on ABC in the 80s and 90s. I have seen remastered episodes on H&I and watched the review. This remaster has its screw-ups, but as good as this show is, this remaster might actually be too good for this show. I've been subscribed for a while, and, James, you make damn near perfect content.
I saw a review of a guy unboxing this set, and he said some thing that got me upset. He said that nobody really cares for the movies. It’s fine that’s his opinion but that upset me.

😉Your wife and you will love this set. My wife had never seen this show before I got this new set and she loves the show now & this new Remastered Blu Ray set. I feel like Paramount Studios has been watching my reviews & listening to what things I have been asking them to change because so far they have been doing everything I had wanted them to change from my last couple reviews of their products. I love these new cases in this set & I also hope they continue to release these classic TV series in these cases. Now I am very hopeful that Paramount will start releasing even more of their catalog of great classic TV series at a faster rate now so we can get a huge collection of these type of shows remastered and released in these type of Blu Ray sets. I am so happy we at least are getting 2 new ones this year alone. 😜 I agree that I also hate how bad my Mission Impossible cardboard has torn and fallen apart, I have tried taping it back together now lol!!! 😂
@@InSearchofPhysicalMedia With your Mission Impossible why not do what I suggested awhile back. Take out your old MI DVD set take out and throw away the DVD discs then put the bluray discs into the old MI DVD Cases. You said it's the same number discs so it would work, and at least your blurays will be protected. Heck I wish I thought to buy the DVD set when it first came out so I could do that with my blurays. LOL
@@robertgordon7187 I had thought about it, but I usually sell my old DVD copies so that I can afford to buy the next set for me to review. So that’s why I haven’t used the case, though I had considered it before. I am trying to get creative because my funds for getting things for reviews has dried up because I have been buying & pre ordering so many things at sometimes over the full price for doing reviews each week over the last several months that my wife says this channel is extremely costly for us.

It’s outstanding & I couldn’t be happier how this ended up turning out especially after how horrible IDOJ was in my last review. It’s a big burst of fresh air to see a TV series Remastered correctly on Blu Ray.
I just ordered it for my wife. However, I won't make her wait till Christmas because after what you told me about your stuff arriving damaged, I want to make sure everything is okay when it comes. Besides she's the type of person who doesn't mind getting her gift early. :)
Great set so far! We're on Season 3 so far. I do have one minor nitpick on the set though. It seams after Seasone 1 the discs from seasons 2 to 7 if the play the discs but say you stop it in the middle of the episode hitting the stop button the discs won't save it at the spot where you stopped the episode. If you stop the disc and hit play again the discs will go all the way back to the bluray menu from the beginning. This is only after Season 1. Is it a big deal? No I can live with it, but I do like if you stop a movie in the middle you can resume it after hitting play again. It's just my little quibble. Other then that it's a great set to have and worth the money you pay for it!😃
Hi. I've had this blu-ray set since just before Christmas but have yet to watch it. Watching your video has given me an insight as to how much I'm going to enjoy watching this in HD. I'd also love to see CBS/Paramount release shows like JAG/all NCIS shows (2023 will be the 20th anniversary of NCIS), Frasier/Cheers (2022 is the 40th anniversary of Cheers so you never know-it has already been remastered in HD, plus 2023 will be the 30th anniversary of Frasier), Walker Texas Ranger (2023 will be the 30th anniversary of Walker Texas Ranger), Beverly Hills 90210/Melrose Place (2022 is the 30th anniversary of Melrose Place), all CSI shows (2022 is the 20th anniversary of CSI: Miami), Star Trek: Deep Space Nine/Voyager (2023 will be the 30th anniversary of Deep Space Nine), Happy Days/Laverne & Shirley/Joanie Loves Chachi.

I started watching Mac on TV in 2018 and in times of cronoa virus TV was airing two episodes 7:00 AM - 9:00 AM from monday to friday and that time I watched every episode and really enjoyed it! One question: are Black images used to transfer into advertisments time cut or not?
I have talked about that Andy Griffith set in this and my last video. As always now & just like with this release due to delays with shipping & all the big supply issues, I never know anymore when things are actually going to show up for me to review anymore. The tracking doesn’t update or show correctly just like with this MacGyver set it still shows on the tracking that it’s not expected for delivery till tomorrow lol…. But obviously it showed up quite a few days ago. So I don’t try to plan out any reviews anymore and just work on whatever shows up first now. All of the things going on in the USA are really making it hard for me to have any semblance of a schedule or idea what I am going to be working on next, it’s also extremely frustrating for me. But it’s how things are now and seems to just be the new normal I guess lol!!!

The image quality of this Blu ray set looks incredible, even though I must confess that I kind of like the retro feeling I have from the grainy image quality of the DVD set. 😊 Since English is not my native language, I use to look on films and TV series on DVD with English audio and with the English subtitles on, to improve my own English, so the lack of subtitles on most of the seasons is a big disadvantage from my point of view. But I am probably still going to buy it - when I have upgraded my DVD player to a Blu Ray player, that is... Anyway, this is definitely my favourite TV show ever, of all categories. The 2016 reboot (if the single episode I have watched of it is a representative example, I should add) is totally pointless to me when you have the original to watch instead.
I would always rather support this physical USA release that’s all in English menus and the box set is English & directly from Paramount Studios so that they will continue to release more of these great remastered TV series. Because if not enough of these sets sell then they won’t justify spending more money or time to release even more of these sets in the near future of some other great classic TV series they have in their catalog. So because Paramount Studios did such an outstanding job with this release this remaster simply can’t be beat.

I am looking forward to seeing the original Kung Fu, Cheers, ST DS9, ST Voyager, and The West Wing series to be released on Bluray discs. I am happy that the MacGyver series bluray box set is region free. I bought the third season of The Dick Van Dyke Show on bluray but it was in Region A. I live in Australia and I do have a multi region Bluray player but I prefer to buy discs in R4 and blurays in RB.
Sure thing, though as I was explaining in this review if you need subtitles you could still get this set and just use predictive subtitles option on your tv itself, that way you can still enjoy this amazing Blu Ray set.
I'd really wish to watch this in BR qualty, but I haven't got a BR player, wish they would release this for digital download, that would be awesome. This is truly one of the best TV-shows ever made.
Hi I have a question regarding the subtitles on the set as you said they aren't on seasons 2 through 7 and said that most modern tvs have a way to equip subtitles is by using close captions on the tv. How would this work as I'm curious on how do I get subtitles? on sets then don't have them like andromeda for example.
So a few subscribers a while ago had shared with me that how they buy some sets like these without subtitles throughout the whole set & it is based on their TV or Blu Ray players having the special options built into their players that will do predictive subtitles by reading the audio playing from the disc and predicting what the subtitles are to display on their TVs. So that’s about as far as I go with the data for that because I don’t use subtitles when I regularly watch TV & I just test each set for if they include the options. But hopefully this heads you in the right direction.
I remember when Macgyver released with Charmed Season 1 on blu ray. Probably explains why the first season is different in quality (including subtitles). Makes me think they’ll most definitely release a box set for that as well.
Great review! I just got mine and I have seen the three first discs in season one. And on disc 1 some episodes has some pretty weird artifacting throughout the episodes. Have not seen anything weird on disc 2 or 3, so I hope the rest is ok. Is this normal for everyone? Or just my disc?😅

It seems that you know a lot about the process of pressed discs. Would you have any idea on or as to why companies might put out DVDs that don’t have any labels on them in other words that are clear?
In this review video I explained & covered in depth the exact way they released both movies & what they did to each film to release them in this set. I also covered in this video all about the original elements that exist for those 2 movies & how that effected each.
Also as a brief & quick rundown the 2 movies elements only exist on video, so there are huge limitations that exist with those so this upscale on Blu Ray that they did for those 2 movies is the best that can really be done for video elements and as I was explaining even more in this video it does look pretty decent & the best those 2 final movies ever have looked & can possibly ever look. Hope this helps you understand this a little better. In my video I cover a lot more on this subject too.
Have you watch season one episodes, especially the one entitled “ The enemy within”. There are some out of sync issues between the lip movement and the sound Among other episodes as well

Hi awesome review.just got my set and on season 1 disc 1 episodes thief of Budapest and the gauntlet seem to be messed up they have white spots and white squiggly lines especially in some scenes on macgyvers face its the only 2 episodes that have done it so far I was wondering if you noticed that as well or if it's just my set thanks for any help.

Well considering that I am NOT using a “DVD” player. As I explain in all my reviews, all my testing & comparisons between Blu Ray sets are done on 5 different Blu Ray players. Also as I was covering in this review both movies do look slightly better on these Blu Rays than the DVDs do of the same movies that exist on the previous DVDs. Paramount did the best they possibly could considering the material they have to work with since the 2 movies were transferred to only Video elements & that’s all that still exists for those 2 movies. Also when testing a Blu Ray vs DVD it’s always done in a controlled environment using the same movies or episodes on Blu Ray vs the same movies or episodes on DVD done on the same players, so if there was upscaling from any Blu Ray Player software it would be doing the same thing for any DVD in comparison. So when you are asking if something is upscaling it would actually be upscaling the same way for both versions, so the slight upgrade on Blu Ray for just the 2 movies is just what it is a slightly nicer looking picture not massively huge for the 2 Movies like the rest of this remastered set but still a great addition to this great set anyways. Hopefully this helps you to understand this all a little better. Thanks
