Thank you sooo much for your ideas and advice! You are 100% correct in saying that hooping frustrations take the fun out of embroidery. I am a beginner and I couldn't agree more. I am going to put all of your suggestions to work and see if I can get any better at this.

Baby Lock and Brother (beibg owned by the same parent company) both use snowmen. 😀 I have had a Baby Lock for 5-6 years and still couldn't figure out the snowmem! Many embroidery machines have a tack down stich (basting stitch) you can use to tack the fabric down once you put the hoop on the machine. Thank you SO much! PS something that is better than that bumpy drawer liner is those foam sheets you can get when you are packing dishes to move. (I get them at Lowe's or Home Depot). The ones that are pockets for plates can be cut apart into 2 sheets. Just cut it into strips abd 'line' the hoop with them! This was a suggestion when I took the class in how to use my machine (where they didn't teach us about snowmen!)

I think it's wonderful that you're active in DAR. My mom had always said that we were descendants of a signer, but when I investigated, I learned I'm related to the widow of a signer and her 2nd husband. Relating my disappointment to my sister that we couldn't join DAR, she said she'd found an old letter (~1955) addressed to our mom. The letter writer from my dad's family said that if my sis or I ever wanted to join DAR, that she had the necessary documentation. Mom, thinking that we were eligible by her blood line, paid no attention to the letter. Now the documentation is lost. Even the letter writer's name is lost. I'm sad, but it makes me happy that there are women like you! And...thank you for another interesting video!

I may be able to help you. If you can gather the first 3 gens birth certs, death certs, & marriage licenses for the line you believe will work, we have the ability to reach into the DAR database and check for relations that are already proven. If you're interested, please email me at beckyleethompson at outlook dot com and I'd be happy to help. The first gen starts with your documents. Hope you go for it! It's a wonderful organization.

Thank you very much for the helpful VDO. I just mark the center on the fabric with chalk & then while hooping it match that center with the center of the plastic grid comes with the hoops. & I find it as the easiest way to align the design. & I always check the grids on the screen of the machine which shows where exactly the design is going to get embroider.(Brother innov is V7) So to summarise ... Use plastic grid while hooping the fabric.

Becky ; how do you clean the hoop ? Someone told me to use WD40? Is that correct and do you spray it on the plastic? The 505 is sticky and it made a mess of my hoop and lint is now stuck to the sticky . Warm regards, Debra 💕
@PowerToolsWithThread
@PowerToolsWithThread 5 лет назад
@@debramccrea9603 My only beef with WD40 (it WILL work) is the awful petroleum smell and possible damage that the chemical could do to the hoop itself since it is plastic. Instead, I prefer Goo Gone. It smells better, works great, and uses less elbow grease than other cleaners. It's also safe for all types of plastics. Afterwards, all hoops get a hot soapy bath and quick towel dry. :)

Great tutorial and love that you are a DIYer. I have been around construction and electrical work for many years and I would urge you to change out that painters tape on your DIY lamp and replace it with (black) electrical tape. Electrical tape insulates and painters tape does not. The painters tape offers no protection If those wires touch, and if they do touch, they can spark and cause a fire.

I recommend starting with a dish towel or a piece of fabric you want to use on a project, like a monogram for a bag or a design to be used on a quilt square. Stay away from hard-to-hoop items if you're just starting. Hooping is it's own skill set. The more you hoop, the better you'll get and as you practice on easier items, you'll learn your machine better each time as well. And each oopsie is a learning experience. I've had so many - and some whoppers! - that I now know I can overcome anything. I hope you enjoy it!

Another great video, so much useful information and demonstration. I find floating works so much better for allot of things I embroider. Don't know where I would be without the 505. Always had puckers before doing it this way. The laser looks like a great tool and will have to invest in one. I see you have a Brother Emb. machine, can you share which one it is and your likes and dislikes in using it. Thanks so much Becky, really appreciate your time!
@PowerToolsWithThread
@PowerToolsWithThread 5 лет назад
I checked Amazon and the prices on those lasers have come down by half. It's only $26 on the link in the description box above. My first Brother machine was the PE770 and I really liked it but wanted larger hoops. That 770 is a fabulous starter machine to see if embroidery is for you and you can get it for around $500 I think. My next was the BabyLock Ellegante 2 that is a sewing/embroidery machine but I used that one primarily for embroidery only. It is my only machine at the coast house so I can sew and embroider there. My primary machine at home is the Brother Quattro 6000D and it has the camera with upgrade kits 1 & 2. I really like that machine and all the features it has. It is the model that was released just before the Dream series and I picked it up off Craig's list for $3500 last Sept. The multi-needle is the Janome MB7 and while it's a good industrial machine, I'm not a fan of the interface. On the Brother, I can back up to the exact stitch where something went wrong. You can't do that on the Janome. I really want the Brother 10 needle and I'm waiting to find a deal on it somewhere. My husband got a hair that he was going to embroider fishing shirts as a business at the coast after he retires so he bought the Janome - so that's his. lol Me? I'm a Brother girl myself. :)

@@PowerToolsWithThread Gosh Becky you are on it! Thanks for the reply and yes I will order the laser light today. I have a Pfaff sewing/emb. but have been having trouble with it, at the repair center for 8 weeks and all they did was an adjustment.It is only 2 years young. Looking for another machine and I picked up a Brother for basic sewing as a back up and like it, $90 well spent at an Amazon local outlet. Now I am thinking of a Brother, not sure if I'm ready for a multi needle. Thanks so much and Happy Stitching!

I would like for someone to demonstrate how to use one of these cross hair lasers on a polo shirt while floating the shirt.
@PowerToolsWithThread
@PowerToolsWithThread Год назад
It's much like I showed in this video. Print the design first and I'd use DIME's Print & Stick Target Paper. That will keep the template from shifting around on the shirt while you hoop. Adhere the target paper to the shirt. Get out your hoop mat so it doesn't slide around. Hoop some stabilizer. Then using a grid in the hoop, point the laser at the hoop's center to set the center point. Remove the grid. Lay the shirt on center so the crosshair on the target paper lines up with the laser. You can get the target paper here. bit.ly/3Amrkki

@PowerToolsWithThread
@PowerToolsWithThread 3 года назад
I don't think the laser will work for that type of project. The laser is designed to let you "see" the target center that has otherwise been hidden by the garment. E2E is not an exact science but a printed template will definitely help to line up the start/stop points and keep you straight.
