I stumbled on this channel by accident. I don't know much about machine shop work, but I can appreciate it when someone knows what they are doing and are good at it. I find myself learning something new each time a video is released. Now, if you would only explain what those initials mean for the various cutters you switch in and out. Oh, and the dog is the bomb. I've got a few of those myself (although my bully is bigger and blind).

Stick a live centre up its arse... heh heh. Love the shots of the safety officer. Another top job! Love that honing machine. If you're interested, check out the 50 ton rudder on HMS Victorious aircraft carrier that I worked on in 1968 as a 3rd year apprentice. We had to take it out, remove the old bronze sleeve, machine the steel stock with an air driven contraption on the dock bottom, then heat the new sleeve over a wood fire as it was rotated and get a team of labourers to lift it on wooden bearers when it was hot enough then slide it on the machined stock to cool down and grip. Then we had to re-install it. The for the pic here "The Rudder may not look very big" scroll down to page 6.

What would be interesting to know is the cost savings to the customer with you making/repairing these parts vs. them going to Cat and purchasing them new. I remember having backhoe outrigger cylinder rods cut off and replaced at a local machine shop vs. buying complete new ones from Case. Having the machine shop cut off the damaged rod and then welding on new rod was 1/2 the cost vs. buying new. Good job on the video's and content. And good job to your gal for filming for ya.

It is certainly nice to see someone that doesn't waste time and energy trying to tighten each key socket on a 3 jaw chuck. Tightening just one is all that is needed. On the lathe why is lubricant only used on certain tooling or in certain situations? Also is cost and possibly down time the only reasons why someone would choose to refurbish a part rather than buy new from the manufacturer? Would there be a large percentage difference in cost machining a new hydraulic cylinder rod/barrel rather than to buy new Cheers, thoroughly enjoying the videos

Hey Lewis thanks for watching and supporting mate. Great questions. We can do it for less than half the cost of new from OEM and that's if the parts are available, often they are discontinued components. I'm using carbide inserts which can be run hot/dry or flooded wet, I prefer less coolant mess so try not to run it all the time definitely not for the internal machining as coolant gets into the chuck and flicks all over the workshop hahaa

If the chips only gets grey you should crank up the speed and the feed, blue chips will let the heat stay in the chips and give less wear on the insert. Blue chips is more money in the pocket and job done faster, happy customers :) There is actually an austrailian manufacturer of drills and endmills, Black Magic is one of their products, Sutton Tools is the name of the co, they are represented all over the world. Keep up the great work :)

Hey Steve thanks for watching mate will definitely be getting a video in the works of big girl. The bore tolerance we work with for this is +/- 0.05mm or 2 tenths of fuck all hahaha 😎👍

Thanks, nice video! Instead of removing the drippy bar & head for new consumables, can't it just be swung forward outta the work and still over the pan, with a fabbed metal or wood brace to position it? It'll be at a convenient push button adjustable height, only drip where there are already drops and save some walking around & table cleanup.
