Making up some mackerel lures then taking them out and fishing with them on a breezy wet day #mackerelfishing #lures Facebook : / trojsfishing Support + Extra Content : / trojsfishing / trojs_fishing
This is the easiest Mackerel lures I've seen. Going to be making some soon and testing them shore fishing because I don't have a boat. Thanks for the tips.
Made some Mackerel lures with white telephone extension cable after watching your video, they work really well and far more robust than shop brought feathers! Thanks for sharing this video. Not sure the tackle shop owners will thank you though! :-)
Wow Trojs, thanks for sharing this vlog. Just amazing that you can make anything to catch mackerels out of the cable plastic coating. This is much cheaper than buying from tackle shop.
Another good tip is ! Get a tube of clear silicone and some silver and gold glitter pump the silicone on a flat surface sprinkle the glitter and mix .. then spoon it back into a cake piper
Made these after watching the vid, caught 9 species including a specimen spurdog at 110cm!!! I added a little bit of red heat shrink onto the top near the eye of the hook. Well chuffed!
Although I use other lures these are my go to lure for general all round fishing as they have a chance to catch many species. Glad they worked for you hopefully you will catch many more species on them.
Have you tried cutting pieces of straw? I take the white with red stripe straws and cut them to a long shank hooks length and slide them over. It works pretty good to catch mackerel here in FL.
Not tried straws not something I see around. Straws would work here for sure If you could find any. I know sometime back they were trying stop using them here or replacing them with some kind of paper ones.
Trojs Fishing yeah, most restaurants are switching to paper in the states now as well. But you can still find them free here and there. They don’t last very long though since the Spanish Mackerel we catch here have nasty teeth. Hah thanks for sharing, saw your silicone baits diy and thought why didn’t I think of that!
Hi Troj. Great video thanks. What size hooks do you use with your tube lures please? 30lb line in a loop won’t go through a lot of small hooks. Thanks. Tony
Old tinsel decoration off xmas trees whipped on to the hook shank works as well .....red ,silver ,blue ,white, gold ,all work ,and you get loads of lures from a metre length so it works out dirt cheap
Thanks Troy, man of his word. Great tutorial video. In about 2 month I should be living in scotland, hopefully I will have made some lures by then, can't wait to try them. They are amazing all rounders.
Some have finally shown up here but not huge amounts. Its concerning when you see how the mackerel numbers drop each year and how small the shoals are now if you can find one.
@@Trojwaterman In the past 3 years Ive seen the mackerel arrive around 6 to 7 weeks later. I fish on the north coast of Ireland. Though this year they have been caught since late May to June. But I believe they stayed this year due to the hot weather last summer. I cant be certain but its still worrying.
Many thanks for putting me on to this video and will certainly try these out. I saw in another video of yours saying to use large hooks for Bass / Pollock and smaller ones for Mackerel, but I have seen videos where you are catching Mackerel and Bass and wondered if you have found an optimum size that can catch both ?
probably 4/0 if you include mackerel You can go to 6/0 if targeting Pollock, bass and still want to catch some mackerel. The problem you can run into is 4/0 is fine for bass pollock but if you hook more than 1 large fish they can fight against each other which can bend hooks out. Just choose the hooks for what fish you would prefer to catch that day or in most cases whats there. Some times I just keep 2 rods set up with different sizes
@@Trojwaterman Understand and appreciate your help. Where I fish I am unlikely to catch more than one bass at a time and the pollock are really small so I'll try the 4/0 initially. Many thanks for the videos and hope all OK in these strange times
Haven't used your lures I made over the winter as no mackerel here yet. Only as far as Chesil and Weymouth so I'm told. I once used a Mr Kipling apple pie tin foil pinched round the hooks and caught a few after a shop bought trace got a bit munched. Think your elec flex lures will be very hard wearing! Great tip. How did you come up with it?
Many years ago when I was skint a bit like now :) I made some with red and black cable and they were very successful for mackerel. I then wanted to design something that could catch bass so I made large white ones. On the first test run I caught a 4lb and 6lb bass at the same time, that was an interesting moment. It kind of went from there a lure that will catch mackerel pollock and will pick up bass now and again. They also ended up catching many other species they just simulate a small shoal of fish and are not overly complicated. Simple yet effective .
You do know that you have started something big now. I wonder how many people will be trying the crisp packet method now. I can see Mackerel flavored crisps in the shops soon as well. lol. Keep the great videos coming. Stay safe.
hello mate, love the videos! i'm actually rebuilding a boat at the minute and it's very similar to yours. just wanted to know if theres any chance you could do a video showing how you have the electrics and fuel system done in your boat, i'm particularly interested in your bilge pump setup as it's something im struggling with at the minute. thanks again.
The fuel is just a fuel can in the back with fuel line straight through the seat The electrics would be hard to show as they are all hidden The the bilge pump is just 2 wires from battery to pump with a float switch in between the live wire. Then you have a Manuel switch with 2 wires that bridge the float switch so you can switch on anytime.
@@Trojwaterman thanks for the reply i appreciate it! where exactly do you have the bilge pump positioned? is it in the center at the rear or do you have it positioned somewhere else?
@@lloydkelly234 Its under the floor just in front of where I stand with the engine, lowest point. You can also get rid of that extra water when you motor forward and the water from the front comes back. My old boat the pump was at the back depends oh your boat.
its amazing. I guess we thrive on over complicating things. And to think … so many fish killed by plastic, now we, at least I, can understand why. They LOVE it. lol / I know its no laughing matter. And it looks like we have a shot at reversing some of the damage. More on point, what do you do with the macks? ~rad~
Great video Troj - I saw your videos of these 'pipe' lures a while ago, and I still keep forgetting to find some white cable! Re the crisp packet lures, the Fish Locker did a good video a few months ago with KitKat wrappers. I made a set up & tried them once from the shore but drew a blank - I think the fish just weren't about on the day! Can you please show us how you made the Silicone ones?
some would have you believe that but Im actually the one who is recycling already produced and dumped plastics and at the same time does not buy plastic mackerel lures. :)
