macOS Sequoia Compatibility! 2 MACS ARE DEAD RIP !!!! 

Until the 2020 intel macs lose support which is looking like 2027 (usually 7 years of support from apple)

@@_EyeOfTheTiger Yea probably/maybe, but people will continue to try to find a way, and there is a chance they will. Maybe even Mackintoshes will die first and then rise from the dead when PC moves to ARM itself in the near future.

@@slizgi86 maybe but that’s a huge if iOS has been running on ARM since day one and no one has reliably booted it on any Android device thus far

@@_EyeOfTheTiger True! We don't have iOS on Android Device, and have Android on iOS device. But we have Linux working (not fully yet) on M chips, so, there might be a way to somehow dig into it, maybe...

Have a 2011 i7 macbook that serves as a music player. Put in a SSD years ago, its still running smooth.

It becomes a bigger problem when third-party software begins to drop support for older MacOS versions. For example most web browsers no longer support MacOS 10.13 or earlier. OTOH even a 5-year-old web browser should still work with modern web sites.

@@zoomosis Think the bigger problem is when third party suppliers promise compatibility and then not give it. My 64bit Adobe Photoshop CS6 stopped working. Didnt want to get a subscription. So when I got a older laptop and installed CS5 and then wanted to upgrade to CS6 it would not do it because adobe would not allow that. I Bought the FFin SW, so NEVER again Adobe

they didnt have social network or youtube to feel embarased about it

i'm staying on Sonoma there's nothing that interest me

I think at least a couple of years based on this diagram and on a yearly update cycle. I have one as well so we shall see.

Why? It's only 6 years old. Are you okay with spending thousands of dollars on a computer that doesn't last that long?

@@luigiprovencher8888 Nope, it sucks how Apple don't give longer support but also I knew I would get around 6 years of major macOS version updates when I bought the machine. If I wasn't okay with that I wouldn't have bought it. The reason for my surprise is that while it is only 6 years old Apple have a pretty short memory and with their move to Apple Silicon I had expected them to try and forget they made Intel Macs and drop support quicker than usual. I think it is unlikely it will get support beyond this release which is a shame as it is still a pretty decent machine. Although it isn't used much these days since I got it for some iOS work I did back back then and have since moved on to other things so now it is mostly just used as a general spare family computer. Personally I moved away from Apple a while back for my work so I don't care much for what they do, I was just surprised to see they didn't drop it was all.

Guess, at some not too far future these "vintage" Intel Macs will become cool to possess, people will take a look at it. Mine got stolen unfortunately.

Don’t regret! Remove the fusion drive andpPut an NVME SSD and a Sata SSD to that machine, and it will be fine! I did that in my machine, I have 500 + 500 GB fast storage now.

NO NO NO DONT UPGARDE TO SIQUA. when the devs make a new version of oclp they will inlcude siqua so upgrade so don’t update to the new macos version yet

Why would you want to do that after paying whatever you paid for the 2018 MBP and then finding out that it was trash.

yeah m1 is way better than intel macs

However I have a feeling that 2026 will be the end for Intel support but we'll see.

From 2020 to 2030 it would be 10 years of  Silicon and in 4-6 is gonna be a different world.

@@24kCookieMusic Apple were still selling Intel Mac Pros in 2022 so I imagine it won't be until around 2028 that Apple drops Intel support entirely.

@@TheZazatv I can care less about AI that's a gimmick most people are already tired of hearing about it.

You'd be a little late to the game on that given that macOS has been operating on a yearly release cycle since 10.7 Lion came out in 2011.

Why do you suspect that is bottlenecking performance?

@@insoninenine8749 it's mostly just suspicion tbh, but from the dome, apps take a moment to launch, despite the OCLP configuration the mouse beach ball feature doesn't seem to work (allow it to spin - static whether toggled or not), and stage manager doesn't seem to activate like it does pre-driver patching. Not saying OCLP is the culprit, just assuming it's the age of the machine. 😂

@@HBProductions. Most likely because Sonoma is not considered very stable at this point. The older the machine - specifically pre-Metal supported machines (before about 2012, depending on the model)) there are more patches required. If you want stability and performance, Monterey is your answer.

@@insoninenine8749 yeah, that's what I concluded as well. Up until Ventura, it ran pretty smoothly.

The Intel hardware in Macs is not powerful enough to run most of the new AI features. Some newer Intel processors have the extra hardware required to run it properly but Apple never used those chips in any of their products.

Probably only for M chip macs, which means it also will be optional and can be disabøed like Siri.
