What kind of lens do you need to shoot small toys? Most likely, a macro lens.
In this video, I show you the 4 macro lenses I use in my LEGO photography and talk about magnification, working distance, and how their different focal lengths affect the field of view.

Fantastic breakdown! Just enough technical jargon to be informative but not overwhelming. I always enjoy hearing why photographers are drawn to their lenses. Someday I’ll get a true macro lens, so will definitely be bookmarking this for later.

Thanks! My goal is to keep it concise. My test is that if my kid can understand it, it's good to go 😂

I’m a year late But what should be my first macro lens??
@FourBricksTall

It depends on what you want to shoot and how much of the environment you need in your frame. Check out the blog post on fourbrickstall.com about my toy photography workflow to help you figure it out.

But I have a full frame camera and the full frame micro lenses are out of my budget So probably I’ll get an aps lens

Great video,i wanna ask can we still shoot a great lego photo without any macro lens?i mean like sigma 60mm f2.8 for example
@FourBricksTall
@FourBricksTall 3 года назад
Sure, lenses are a creative choice. A macro is about magnification so this is useful for filling the frame with a minifig more. But if your vision is to have the minifig much smaller in the frame, then another lens will work fine. Understand your lens's focal length, and work with that in mind.

@@FourBricksTall thanks for replying,i used to shoot figma or revoltech,kinda interested with lego bcoz we can have a smaller setup for shot,since i dont have any macro lens,i'm affraid that i will have to super crop it after shot

I used to have that same sony lens adapter, but unfortunately sold it my senior year of college. What a fool I was.
@FourBricksTall
@FourBricksTall Год назад
Don't worry about it. Better lenses that are cheaper than the adapter have come out.

Hi, do you have any experiences with macro rings?
@FourBricksTall
@FourBricksTall 2 года назад
Sure do: www.brickcentral.net/camera-accessories-for-pseudo-macro-lego-photography/ TL;DR it's a good entry point but you'll run into limitations quickly.

hey, do you know the name of the sony e-mount adapter you use for the macro takumar lens?
@FourBricksTall
@FourBricksTall 3 года назад
It's a M42-NEX focal reducer since I use that lens on a APS-C camera. Just get a M42-NEX adapter if you're shooting full-frame.

Guys, could sb help me? I'm starting with toy photography, and wanna get my 1st camera. Don't know if getting a Canon M50 or a Fuji X-T200. Wanna shoot lego and 6 inch Marvel Legends. I'd like to shoot birds in the park when possible too.
@FourBricksTall
@FourBricksTall 2 года назад
You can't really go wrong with a mirrorless body. It's the lenses you should be looking at. Check the range of lenses available for either of these mounts first.
