Pro-NATO, pro-EU, pro-Israel is just more massive expense for the French. That's pointless and not a change from the current situation. If le Pen's party can't subordinate foreign policy to the welfare of the French, it might as well not exist.

Right or Left obfuscates the reality which is more corporate or less corporate; regulation on certain parts of the economy or less intervention; left or right is thrown around to make the public more dumb.

The idea that Macron called snap elections because he wanted to cause chaos and benefit from the fear doesn't make a lot of sense (which doesn't mean that it's wrong). Macron had a minority government that was somewhat functional and would have lasted 3 more years, until the end of his time in office, so there was no rush. "Create chaos" implies that there is urgency (like Sunak having to face voters no later than December of this year) and here there was none. An alternative idea that has gotten some support: Macron wants the RN to wield power and fail, creating a losing ticket for the presidential election in 2027. This has happened multiple times during the French 5th Republic, where the opposition grabbed the prime minister post only to become less popular "in power", leading to a loss in the big prize of the presidency.

The only alternative is LFI but they only make 10%. We have exact same situation in the US. And in both countries, voting for Le Pen or Trump is appealing to the left because it will create chaos on the right, and they will be less efficient in their right wing politics and their war mongering than Biden and Macron. Yes Trump and Le Pen talk a big talk... but the Macron, Biden type do the deed. That being said Macron will be very happy with a far right prime Minister. That will give him the cover to do what he actually wants to do.

Several inaccuracies: 1- Macron is NOT “down” but actually up (the latest polls place his Party at 20% up 6pts since the last EU Election) as it seems his bet to divide and appear as the reasonable choice vis a vis the “Extremes” appeals to his base; 2- in your likely scenario, Macron would govern with the RN: but LePen already answered they would NOT join the Government IF they don’t have an absolute majority (or may call for his Resignation); 3- the main reasons 40% of the electorate is voting to the Right are primarily Inflation; Disenfranchisement; Immigration and Safety, as consistently analyzed in many polls and surveys, not that “they tried everything else” (there is now a positive vote for the Agenda rather than a vote by default); 4-lastly, the terms “far Right” is highly disputable considering RN is more of a Populist yet Republican movement nowadays, with many similarities to Denmark policies (social and immigration platforms combined for instance).

I have hope on the Nouveau Front Populaire, although at this point I think even Le Pen would be better than Macron.

I think you should ask yourself sometimes if you really are honest.

This M. Bertrand doesn't dare say the reality, which is that while Trump's rise can be blamed far more on the Democrat's abandoning the working class, Le Pen's rise has a far higher proportion to do with immigration, and especially the behaviour of many muslims in France. This, combined with a constant downgrading of the welfare state, selling the country to private interests, etc.

Marine Le Pen is a National Socialist and not at all right wing. What make RN right wing? Their economic platform is socialist. There’s an actual right wing party in France called Reconquête which is neither far right nor far wrong

Those speculating that he is trying to show the extreme right in a bad light are too naive about the situation. Macron followed the Pétain playbook from the get go, there's more to this than to this weird speculation about some shrewd maneuver to outsmart the extreme right. The alternative outcome would be for the left coalition to win, in which case we would get another serving of Blairite type of politics

I can certainly see why your subscribers kept insisting you invite this _expert._ I could only find such amazingly insightful analysis in the NYT, Breitbart, ZeroHedge, CNN, the FT, Fox, and Politico, and it's so much more compelling when it's delivered in a thick accent.
