Saw you were using your Door Stud kit! Worked awesome. Couldn't imagine installing doors alone without them. Great Job. Keep up the gapped work and great videos!

What keeps air from coming in from the area between the walls ? Is the pocket the door slides into sealed ?

I always install the vertical jamb pieces first, then the head jambs pieces last using 1-1/2" 18 gauge nails. I also DO NOT nail through the head casing into the head jamb pieces so that in the event of a door getting out of adjustment, which is inevitable, all that is necessary to get to the adjustment bolts on top of the door is to remove the head jamb pieces. The order in which you installed the jambs and casings insures that the all of the trim pieces need to be removed to adjust the door.

I was just going to write this, however I usually use wood screws on the head jambs. Two screws is all you need and the door can be adjusted with little effort.

I also like to install a shoe base on latch side of vertical jamb (inside and outside) which creates a small pocket to give the closed door no gaps.

Awesome video brother. I have the same nail gun and I've found if you keep the gun perpendicular to the door frame you will hardly ever have a blow out. Tge tip of the nails are a chisel shape which causes the deflection to the right or left of the gun.

I thought the door guides went under the jamb so you can’t see them.

Cool video, exactly what I will be doing on my new build. I actually have the pocket door kits with soft open and close waiting for me to pickup in store as soon as I get over my covid. I have done a bunch of research ahead of time and was aware that the soft close have to be put in ahead of time, so the moment I saw the hardware I knew you were going to mention it as I knew you were already done with the drywall, bummer. Your channel has been great and I have followed your entire build front start so far... And it is what has inspired me to build my own house with my own hands. Land is bought and the shell for the house is purchased, so it's not as extensive of a build as yours, but I will have a finished shell of a house and all interior work such as hydronic, plumbing, electrical, framing ect will be on me. Great channel. Your videos made me realize I can do most things you were doing already, I just never concidered doing it on that scale, so it's going to be a long jeorney for me starting in about 4 months. Wish me luck!

I would suggest put stopper on the door for the safety of little children jamming their fingers when they slide the door could do some serious damage we have one in our entrance to the bathroom I put one on ours just something to consider

When I was in high school mechanical drawing, I designed and then drew the plans for a house that I wanted to build. It had a full basement(unusual for Louisiana) and all of the interior doors were pocket doors. I designed it to be at the crest of a hill or at least on the side of a slight hill. I think a pocket door needs or should have a panel on one wall that has a screwed-on access panel for maintenance.

We do like pocket doors and some sort of access would be handy from time to time

For bathrooms, I would suggest raising your wood trim up at least 1/4" off the floor to avoid long-term moisture damage and wicking at the bottom of the trim. You can create 1/4" or 3/8" shims on a table saw and use them on every door. This way if your kids have a water fight in the bathroom, the bottom of the door trim will remain relatively dry. If it gets wet, water will not wick up it and cause long-term damage because the bottom will quickly dry out (because it has an air gap). Properly done, this only takes a couple of extra minutes per door and it can prevent paint peeling and discoloration issues that can occur with repeated exposure to water at the floor level.

@MrPostFrame 2 года назад
Great idea. We actually may go back through and replace it all with tile to avoid that very issue. Right now it was a matter of getting things officially wrapped up
@franklong6269
@franklong6269 2 года назад
@@MrPostFrame If time is a factor, you can use a 1/4" shim as a guide for a multi-tool (like a Fein Multimaster) saw to easily trim the bottom of the vertical door casing where it meets the floor. I think that is what you are saying - that you will cut the bottom of the trim to install tile later.

Great video! This is the most comprehensive video I've seen on YT about installing a pocket door. Thanks for taking the time to show the entire process, all the hardware used, and adding helpful tips and info. •• Also, that bathroom behind the door was just gorgeous! ♡

I watched a video from The Honest Carpenter on trim details a while back, and he made a pretty good argument against flushing up the trim pieces to one another. A quarter inch reveal I think could make the door jamb look ever so slightly more elegant.
