This was the first movie I ever saw on HBO at a friends house. It was hard to imagine but we saw a movie on TV with no ads, cussing, and it was from Australia. Twenty times we watched it never tiring. I wonder if that is what made the movie so big in the world. Without cable I never would have heard of it or that unknown actor playing Max. Loved it and still quote the movie often.

When I saw it at 17 in 1980 in Alabama I was blown away and knew I had seen expert film making in those first 10 minutes...those shots as the cars were moving were so close and made you feel like you were right there in the film were so amazing. Seen this movie many times and im always impressed...

A 1974 Australian film called "Stone" deserves a mention. It stars many of the same actors as members of a motorcycle gang. Hugh Keays-Byrne as Toad, Vince Gill as Dr Death and more. Not a car chase film but lots of bikes, the kawasaki z 900 was new and revolutionary. The film is mad max long lost cousin. Tarantino raved about it in the documentary "not quite hollywood".

I remember in 1986 my mates auntie didn't want to keep her mustard orange coloured XA Falcon. It was straight and was a 6 cylinder 3 on the tree. It ended up not being wanted and was taken to a wrecking yard. Shame. A damn shame. I remember thinking it look good as a MM1 pursuit car. I'd have a MM1 replica yellow XA or XB any day over a Lamborghini or whatever. I reckon it get more attention full stop. You'd be able to tell the diehard MM fans from the general public by the thumbs up they give you

I was 13 when this was released in the States. It was rated "R" restricted audiences. Under 17 accompanied by an adult. So we paid for a different movie and snuck in. To this day it's one of the most intense, satisfying, movies I've ever seen. At school kids would quote certain lines from the movie.. Even then it was one of those, " if you know, you know" kind of things. 😅

Great video and descriptions! I bought the DVD back when it first came out and it was loaded with features and other cool stuff. It even had the original dialog and the crappy U.S. dub. I seen The Road Warrior as a kid and was immediately hooked! Having the DVD made me an even bigger fan of the series. It still irks me how often people get the names of the cars wrong because of what the mechanic says about Max's Pursuit Special in the second movie. Anytime you become a fan of something, you should track down the first example and study it thoroughly then, go through the rest in chronological order then, you know what you're talking about. So many people get this wrong with all kinds of franchises because they don't pay enough attention to the story line and details. Thanks for making this video that shows the cars as they really were and credits everyone involved.

Loved the first 2 Mad Max films, mainly the scenes involving the MFP pursuits. Hated that the film makers decided to destroy the black interceptor. I was glad to see another version of it in Fury Road, but again, they made the decision to destroy it. I felt that the black interceptor was a part of Max, without it, he's naked. Imagine the Lone Ranger without Silver, Starsky and Hutch without the Striped Tomato, or Bo and Luke Duke without the General Lee. It's not the same.

The novel by Terry Hayes, George Miller and Brian Hannant has some interesting background on the pre cursor to the MFP, called the Breaker Squad they where formed to combat the Armalite Gangs, would actually make a good movie in itself as a prequel, many have been made with less material as a starting point. I reckon the Kawasaki Z900’s present a way more futuristic and dystopian bikie than the Harley riding variety of the 1960’s and scarier like twisted and capable of more bizarre and gruesome crimes than those 60’z bikies. Some great detail in this my guy, great work thank you for posting.

Behind the scenes is always interesting. You get to see and hear the nitty gritty that makes it all possible. Mad Max may have been a low budget $$$ movie, but it sure was a successful one. Movies 1 & 2 where epic, after that the cars became Ratrods and lost the appeal of “car guys”. Movie 3 was just dumb, the cage fight may as well have been about circus folk than cars. It seems sometimes low budgets garner better more creative scenes than does heaps of cash. Look at “Jaws”, had the shark animatronic worked Spielberg would have just made an underwater Godzilla movie. Lastly, “Ronan” deserves a mention for having a great set of car scenes, albeit it was made after the first few Mad-Max movies. Great mini-doc!

'Johnny the boy has done it again' I know all these locations well and in fact worked on a music film clip years later that used mock up versions of the main cars and we filmed in the same area's of Little River Melbourne Australia.

I have been to Little River. I was very impressed how little it changed in the 33 years when I went there in 2012.

Was that the clip that had the XB Coupe painted Red Blue & Yellow ?
@Neil-Aspinall
@Neil-Aspinall 3 года назад
@@rhettcorbett3346 Possibly, I worked on many many clips and rarely saw the finished product, maybe on some music show years in the future and then suddenly realized why I found this song and clip familiar?

@@Neil-Aspinall My mates band The Dark Clouds shot their MFP film clip at Little River. With Peter Robinsons Yellow 4 door Interceptor , Peter Axfords Black Interceptor & Rays Monaro. It was filmed around Kirks Bridge & surrounding roads. It also had a cameo form Vince 'Nightrider' Gill himself. It's a lovely area.

@@rhettcorbett3346 OK I watched it and no it is not the one I worked on although they may have been the same cars? My clip was around 2010 and from memory the song was a bit more poppy? You've made me want to know what it was now!

Yes. Certain issues arose that needed some parts to be re-edited. I had already gotten some good number of views by that stage. But, its the product I am more concerned about. I wanna put my name on the best result I can.

On RH guard (Fender), you can see stenciled "The Dark One" under "Rockatanski", Max's partner, who suffered a nasty accident as described by the Goose at Fat Nancy's restaurant, heard it may have been to be played by John Waters in that early script.

Yeah I red that recently as well in the script. The Dark One gets mentioned again later by Max and May towards the end when Max tells May to call him.

I may have posted this before but doesn't the Black interceptor have a Chevy Monza front bumper cover? I have a '76 with a built 350 in it and I may have seen some posts before. Love the Mad Max movies BTW...

Saw this when I was 7 y/o. My brother and I bought tickets to see some lame g rated movie then snuck in to see Mad Max. What a thrill, I thought we were going to jail if caught but my brother said not to worry so I didn't. True story. Btw, fury road sucked!
