the Mad Professor SHOD versus the BJF Honey Bee low gain over drive guitar effects pedals, side by side, compared with a www.kingbeeguitars.com Relic Tele and a Dr Z MAZ 18 2x10 combo amp. They were similar, but not the same. Check it !
@skurtix Your talking about the PCB version of the Sweet Honey Overdrive vs the Hardwired version of the Sweet Honey Overdrive. Bjorn is behind the BJFe and the Mad Professor line, both are similar but different. Bjorn has confirmed this several times, they are different pedals with different components but with tweaking can be made to sound similar.
i just ordered a BJF Honey Bee for $150 used which I feel like is a steal these days. from the videos i've seen i think it might be the best sounding pedal i've heard.
Ok I know nothing about pedal on the right and I only just heard about mad professor effects less than an hour ago. This is the first im hearing the Honey. At first, not really paying attention I was saying hands down Honey. It does sound better, however if you listen closely the other one is a clearer representation. I bet if they were in different amps and each set to their best tone, the Honey Bee would win. sweet honey adds a little too much of its own tone. the Bee is more natural
Honestly the thing that I appreciate the most about the Gearmandude demos is the sweet ass cowyboy boots. Nothing's worse then watching a guy show off a cool pedal, but having to look at his nasty ass should-have-been-cut-a-month-ago toenails And I think anybody that has sat around and watched tons of RU-vid demos like I have will agree. Another excellent and informative demo, sir. Thanks and Kudos!
I just did my own demo of these two at home. You are correct in saying the BJFe makes the MP sound like a Boss pedal. I have a HoneyBee of my own on its way to me!
SWEET HONEY - sounds louder and slightly brighter HONEY BEE - sounds smoother ***like always, it depends on what other gear you're using, how all of your gear complements/works against each other, what sound you're looking for, how it feels, and what you're willing to pay.***
Hmm...yeah, a little - the SPB covers a lot of tones. It's perhaps a little brighter and more mid-focused. Very tweakable pedal! I live in Sydney and own nearly all Mike's creations - except for the amp (s). The MI Iron Duke is a beast, I'd need a farm without neighbors to do it justice! Still think his Fuzzes and Blue Boy Deluxe are three of the best pedals ever made for what they do (ge/si Fuzz, phat Texas Blues Tubescreamer/Bluesbreaker tones. And the Super Crunch Box has spawned so many imitators. I love my SCB V3.
BJF pedals are by far the worst build quality i have EVER seen. so much potential for shorts and other problems not to mention the awful craftsman ship with the wiring and gooping the boards...once i removed the goop it was even more dissapointing because he has AMAZING circuits but they look as if hes had them sent off to the closest kindergarden class to be made
I am curious about something. I've read all the comments in freestompboxes about the build quality. I am older and I remember looking into old TVs and radios and seeing a lot of the components pointing in odd directions. Especially capacitors. Is that just sloppy manufacturing or does the position of the cap actually affect tonality or performance in some way?
so long as it soldered properly they will sound the same but its sloppy work and the way he builds you run a huge chance of the pedal failing. if you were to hit it in the wrong way something could start shorting out the pedal and unless you have basic knowledge of electronics your not even going to try to fix it bearfoot makes the same pedals but are put together with far more care and they will last a lot longer I personally prefer to build either with turrets or eyelet's for PTP, it has the best tone by far and is really easy to modify and repair, not to mention they look sexy LOL
