In this and all of our videos, we showcase the Polaris Rzr 2020 Fox Edition Trail model, 50" as well as accessories, upgrades and product reviews. This enables you to know what your money is worth spending on when it comes to your UTV, whether it is a Trail model, or another Polaris. We also visit regional ATV and UTV riding areas and parks, to explain the terrain type, costs, and provide an overall review of these locations so you can decide if you want to visit. We will also insert a variety of other products, some non-Polaris for comparison and review purposes. We are mechanically inclined, but we are not mechanics, so we like to show you how we can DIY on our own Rzr just with the help of the OEM service manual and research. Does the UTV crush your fender wells?
@TheBeatenTrail
@TheBeatenTrail Год назад
No it doesn’t, unit 50", with tires 54". We had to put two spare tires between the wells and since the truck was 60 inches wide tires were just slightly raise up onto the tire Wells but no damage to them. The spare tires were just keep it level regardless if we were off by a little bit since the tires or terabytes and 11 inch wide on the trail. It fit. It still had clearance on both sides.

So far we like them, I think both on F150 and Dodge Ram, they'll work out well, don't have any info on the Toyota, but most are the same size bed (60" wide), but for ATVs not an issue. A sxs might vary, so I had to do all the measurements first on the truck. Enjoy them so far, I had a few people stop me at the gas station asking about them and taking pictures.

I just backed the brother in-laws 570 into my F150 with the 6.5' bed which is really like 6.7'. It fits, engine is heavy so you put that close to the cab and it's more balanced out. If you are wondering about the tailgate just get DG Tailgate Support bars and you have no issues as then you don't rely on the cables to support the RZR. I'm guessing people get scarred backing their unit into the bed..LOL Makes unloading easier, just jump in and pull off, as for doors, I'm not big so I just go through the opening Dukes style.
@TheBeatenTrail

Yes, I have to look into the support bars. Once I load the the front tires are in place, most of the weight is aok on the RAMP assembly, but the more support the batter. In ice and snow, the backing up can be a bit of a pain. Lining up in the dark, after a long day usually isn't too bad.

I have a set of mad ramps also. I back mine in also to keep the weight as far forward as possible. I trailer my side by side in a rv toy hauler and now I don't have to move the trailer once set up, I use the mad ramps.
@TheBeatenTrail

I had them for a while, but they did cause damage to the rear tailgate. Need less plastic on the tailgate or some kind of protection. I now have a trailer and bigger ride, but may go back to ramps of some kind with an ATV or another trail model. The MADRAMPS were ingenious, and many didn't think the engineering of them was safe, but i never had an issue with them. Good build.

We sold them to a friend, the width of the rzr trail was getting a bit wide and the back tailgate took a beating. I know there are other options for reinforced tailgates, so if I did it again with a trail, I would look into those. Glad you like them! I don''t hear a lot of people using them, if they do, I don't see it in the northeast.

With the RZR weighing 1200lbs and rear tires on the mad ramps, how did it feel driving it, was the truck harder to drive with the weight being lifted off the front?
@TheBeatenTrail
@TheBeatenTrail 3 года назад
Not bad at all, backing it in helps, since the F150, and any pickup, is used to having the weight over the back axle, in the bed. Stable, and we' got 14.5MPG (engine 3.5TT) to FRO and back, about 100+ miles each way. The back beefed up springs help, the Timbrens, prevent the sag in the back.
@Chuckers84
@Chuckers84 3 года назад
I don't understand why you bought these ramps they seem very cumbersome and bulky? I have a Fox Trail as well with a 6.5 foot bed and I back my machine into my bed with my factory Ford ramps. I pull the pin slide my ramps closed and then slide each one off the side of my tailgate plate and store within them Ford box link system. For extra support I use tailgate supports just in case the wires give.
@TheBeatenTrail
@TheBeatenTrail 3 года назад
I never heard a definitive answer on how much Ford/Ram tailgate weight can handle. Even with the supports, I would feel weird with the bouncing on the highway with the unit on the tailgate. I needed to try and see how they functioned. I am happy with them. How do you lock the top of the ramps on the tailgate when loading, unloading? I will have to look up the Ford ramps you're talking about. Maybe I can check them out for another product test for the channel.
@Chuckers84
@Chuckers84 3 года назад
I have taken my machine on some pretty beat up logging roads in the back of my truck and the tailgate never gave. I even travelled down the highway for several hours when I forgot the supports at home and it didn’t even stretch luckily. I feel the tailgates are pretty strong I have ran the machine nose in and I definitely didn’t like how the truck handled with all the weight in the back behind the rear wheels but it’s do able. I also run air lift air bags the ride comfort ones 2000 pounders just to get the sag out and don’t lose the great ride when unloaded. There is a channel on the ramps that slides into the leading edge of the plate on the tailgate like a tongue and groove flooring and also protects that plastic you mention.

They make an accessory for the ramps not to tilt when wanting to put vehicle all the way in. I was wondering if u had issues with rear license plate not being visible with this on? and how much did it move or how noticeable was it when diriving etc? thanks
@TheBeatenTrail
@TheBeatenTrail 3 года назад
I have only seen the snowmobile add-on, i'll have to check on their site. The license plate visibility is an issue, I hang it on the back of the driver-side ramp with a car-dealer pouch, so it works out. I may revert back to a trailer - an enclosed one to boot, and will probably sell these. For now, they work, they just could be a challenge if I have an engine failure and have to winch her up, but it's still doable. Driving, you can feel the weight of the trail on the back, but its no different than a load of stone or bricks since we back up the trail and the engine if over the rear axle. Also got Springs (Timberns) added for less droop. Glad you like the video.

They do, just on a f150 its a bit of weight and close to its limits. Rear tailgate reinforcement is required, but a smaller atv would be safer. We tried it out for a while but upgraded to a trailer.

Awesome video! Wondering how you get out with the full doors when it’s in the bed of the pickup ? Does backing it on the truck allow you to swing the door open? I see you have tires in the back you backed the bike on top of. Thanks
@TheBeatenTrail
@TheBeatenTrail 3 года назад
Thanks, glad you enjoyed! The doors open about 6 inches, enough for me to get out and stand on the tailgate to climb out. Its not bad. Bed is 60", so there's some wiggle room. The tires keep me from being lop-sided since the f150 wheel wells are about 50-52 apart. I would recommend some kind of platform or item to keep her balanced between wheel wells. Funny how the manufacturer shows it hanging off the back with the engine end putting weight off the back of the vehicle - this way it no different than a load of stone or bricks over the rear axle of the pickup truck.

You far exceed the maximum weight allowances for those ramps (read the manual) and probably your vehicle and your class 3 hitch (350-800 tongue weight) as well. The components don't look all that robust and it was bending badly when you loaded it. I suspect this can easily fail over time and bumps. It could work well for a light ATV, which is what is was designed for. If it were $500 it would be compelling if I needed something for a lightweight application. IMO, for $1000 you would be infinitely better off getting a trailer. It would free up the bed for gear and take weight off the axle making for a safer solution. Loading and unloading will also be a breeze. Given the weight of your RZR I would personally only consider a dual axle w/brakes and a dedicated trailer brake inside your cab. There is the right way to do things, there there is everything else. Safety first.
@TheBeatenTrail
@TheBeatenTrail 2 года назад
Yes. We did testing with them and then moved onto a trailer. Like you stated the door tailgate was definitely not reinforced enough and would require extra cables to secure. We were under the payload limit but yes it was pretty close to limits. We have since sold them and are using a trailer with our trail and our Honda talon. A f250 or bigger would be more secure.
@MOAB-UT
@MOAB-UT 2 года назад
@@TheBeatenTrail Good move on changing to a proper trailer. even with cables- a tailgate should not hold more than ~250lbs. and certainly not while in motion (bouncing- a dynamic load.) Ideally go dual axle on the trailer with a dedicated brake inside the cab.
@matthewpetruso4551
@matthewpetruso4551 3 года назад
Does it need to be tied down? My RZR 900 trail fits in the bed of my 6.5’ F150 with standard ramps but it’s a PAIN to strap down. The mad ramps look like it gives it some backwards stability and more room to tie down. How quickly can you load, tie down and go?
@TheBeatenTrail
@TheBeatenTrail 3 года назад
Are usually have two 1500 straps that strap to tiedowns in the bed and total two more upfront but the razor only weighed 12 1300 pounds so it wasn’t bad but the wider you are with non-stock tires just takes a little bit to back it in and if it’s rainy and icy it can be a challenge but that’s about it. We went wider so we couldn’t fit in the bed anymore so we’re selling the ramps and went back to a trailer.

@TheBeatenTrail Год назад
Well to be totally honest if you have an 800 or 900 trail and you weigh less than 1200 pounds it’s doable but really recommend having an F250 to take the extra weight as far as durability goes the mat ramps held up very well it’s just a tailgate on your truck that takes a beating so if I did it another way with a small vehicle like that it would be in an F250 versus a F150

@TheBeatenTrail Год назад
Should be fine. Just when you start getting to the top of class 1 ATV (1200 lbs), then it can be a little unstable transporting, but for any ATV, its good. BIG BOY ramps might be another option, but usually around the same cost as the MAD ramps, check pricing...cheaper ramps can be found for lower weight capacity.

I would say yes. My f150 bed (check me for accuracy) is 60 inches wide. My Trail is 50, then up to 55 with the Tusk Terrabites (and no spacers installed yet). I am moving back to a trailer since I will be wider with the aforementioned spacers, so I will be selling my MADRAMPS if you're on the east coast. ;) PM me on IG or Facebook if interested. @TheBeatenTrail
@TheBeatenTrail 3 года назад
Sounds good. Regardless what you buy, ensure you check your payload limit for your truck - in your wheel well of your truck it should be on the placard. I added Timberns (SP?) to prevent droop with the weight. A 2020 Trail dry weight is just under 1200 lbs if I remember correctly. Additionally, although MADRAMPS shows the unit driven in nose first, I don't believe its as safe as backing in with your engine weight over your rear axles and not bouncing up on your tailgate and hitch, just FYI. :)
