Nail Journal entry #71 ✨
In today's video I'll be using Madam Glam's Silver Chrome Gel Paint to create some Valentine's Day-inspired nail art. I bought this silver chrome gel paint to see if it really did have a no-wipe finish - and though it seems to upon curing, the finish is altered when topped with a gloss topcoat.
The product page even claims that it "Does not need a top coat gel, but you can always apply it for a more shiny effect". Do you think it held up to this claim? Let me know in the comments...

I can’t remember where I just watched a video, but they added a drop of acetone into the chrome gel paint and it made it even shinier?! I haven’t tried it yet, but I was surprised that adding acetone to it amplified the shine! Nails came out gorgeous as always ☺️🧡✨

Honestly I loved the result with the matte background, I would totally use this product as a last step without adding top coat and see how that goes. I would also love to see it swatched on a larger surface like nail tip!

I tried the gel paint in gold and once I applied the top coat it turned a different color.The paint definitely have different ingredients than the chrome powder.I didn't like the chrome paint gel I used as much as the chrome powders I have.I think adding something over the chrome paint gel would help.

I prefer chrome powders do paints, the mirrored effect just looks so much better than the gel paint, which like you say it’s never chrome as such. Metallic, yes, chrome no.

I would love a video comparing pigments and paints. I've never tried the paint versions but I've only had trouble with the pigments 😭 I just don't have the hang of it. I've had chipping, and I've had the powder like ... Rub off if I switch tools when I'm buffing it in. Idk, just truly don't fully get it 🤣 nice video!

Okay, cool! I've added it to my schedule 💖 Yeah, it took me just over a year to get comfortable with it, so I can kinda relate. The gel version might be more convenient for you, but you might also find that you love it when you revisit it in the future. Hopefully anyway 😅

Have you tried slightly under curing your gel that you apply the chrome to? That was my issue or one of my issues when working with Chrome hop it helps.

@momo's nail corner no wipe top coat always and slightly undercure so chrome embeds into the topcoat it should work and no chipping! I really hope it works for you sure made a difference for me

Welcome back 💖💖 I like the gel more cause it’s less messy and It’s self leveling also works better with detailed nail art. But yea I have the same problem whenever I apply topcoat they lose the mirror effect so I just leave them without a topcoat🫠

@@memnail I think they look just as bad with a top coat, so I don’t bother myself applying a top coat tbh. I also have the same issue with the powder it doesn’t look shiny after applying the top coat maybe it’s just the brand idk.😮‍💨

Just a suggestion, maybe you should apply the chrome paint on a coat of uncured no wipe top coat and then cure quickly. I just tried it and the chrome sheen stayed! Just beware that the paint will move and start to bloom. FYI I used the DGEL Romantic Twinkle art gel and before i tried the above method the paint disappeared when i cured. Hope that helps!

Gels don't look bad but they do not give a chrome effect. What makes chrome pigments work is the technique used, so it only makes sense that the liquid formula cannot give the same finish. This is more like a super shiny silver.

Someone on TikTok was discussing the same issue you’re mentioning. They mentioned the only brand that they were able to get good results with was a brand called “the gel bottle”.

Ahh glad I'm not the only one 😅 Hmmm I've seen a bunch of vids of people using the TGB version and it looks the same as the Madam Glam one, but it might look better in person...

Hello, New Sub here and I’m enjoying your channel! I decided to subscribe after watching one of your videos that was posted 11mo. ago and loved it! It was you trying out the free edge gel and making your own (which was 10 times better btw!). I wish I would have seen this video a bit earlier because I literally just purchased a natural nail product called Garcia Free Edge gel (natural). It basically does the same as what you bought, except you don’t need to have a license, or be a Pro to purchase it….obviously 🙄 duh! 😂 Anyway, it cost me $18 USD + $5.13 in shipping. Oh, I forgot to mention that I purchased it on Pre-order because it’s in such high demand. Their shipment will be in before the end of February though. If you’re curious, it’s on haenails.com site. Again, I wish I would have seen your mixture first, but while I wait for the product to come, I will definitely give your mixture a try! Thank you 🙏🏽 Oh, I’m also a new Sub!! Hey! I apply all my full-cover tips with extension gel. I usually have a few in rotation - this one was gifted to me by BTArttbox. But, Kiara Sky, Apres & Nail Order are my usual go-to brands for extend gels
