These Sony movies feel like modern versions of all those dark-cheesy 90s-2000s superhero movies (punisher, daredevil, etc.)

I think what they are doing with Web is making her more of the Xavier/Fury character with the girls being the X-men/Avengers. But since there is no Spider-woman team name, they just went with her as the lead. Same thing with them maybe wanting to do a Spider-woman movie, but couldn’t agree with which to use. So use them all.

It's so funny when I saw the trailer for Madame Web came out I thought I was having a fever dream but I ended up actually really enjoying the trailer lol

As someone who read comics in the 70s and 80s, I think of Madame Web as part of Roger Stern's "Nothing Can Stop the Juggernaut" and "To Fight The Unbeatable Foe".

In my opinion.... Madame Web is wasted on a lead character role. Feel like she's best as a supporting character; as a mysterious genius-level strategist using her powers to manipulate timelines for "the greater good". Web being the main character means Sony have to handicap her abilities, and that's not as cool.

I honestly think Sony has given up earnestly competing with Marvel and DC at this point, and they are purposely pushing superhero fatigue by putting out bad movies and confusing the average viewer about what is Sony vs. Marvel Studios, and dragging everything down instead.

Not overly bothered about this movie, but I need trailer reactions from you gents back in my life 🎉

TBH, it should be like this: Marvel/Disney should focus on the live action Spider-Man movies and Sony should focus on the animated Spider-Man movies

This just looks like another Sony cash grab. They have the rights. They need to make money. The people at Sony Pictures have NO idea who these characters are…and just pump this stuff because they have to do something with them. If I owned Sony's film marvel division, I would try and find what 600 characters look cool and have awesome powers, and has little to nothing to do with Spider-Man. See if an obscure property would pique interest like Guardians of the Galaxy.

😺 Honestly, I'll watch it and I hope they did come up with a good story to tell with characters we're invested in and are given decent potentiality. I love Adam Scott and I've liked Dakota in some stuff. (Remember both 50 shades leads *hated* it.) We've all been burned by Sony, so it's also just true that this film is fighting an uphill battle from them constantly embarrassing themselves. And while there's plenty here to thoughtfully criticize, for good reason, the fact that it's a female lead cast isn't *not* affecting the discourse / reaction to this, let's be for real rn... ✌🏻

The problem with these Spider-Man spinoffs is no Spider-Man in them. I did enjoy the movies but the main character for theses secondary characters is missing in the movies.

Yeah this trailer does nothing for me. It's not just that we're at a point of superhero fatigue but like you guys said it all looks and feels completely half-arsed. But it also feels like Sony are still making superhero movies like it's the 90s and everything that's come out that isn't a direct Spider-Man movie or has Marvel's hands in it feels completely outdated

i'm not a comic book person and never seen the 90s animated series. Actually not really a huge fan of Spider-man. So i'm seeing this trailer through the lens of "just another movie" and to be honest it piqued my interest, and i thought it looked cool.

Sony is no control making Spiderman solo in their own universe without Disney involved

When the editing in the trailer is done so chaotically that you can't tell what's going on, it's not a good sign. In most cases, they're trying their best to make something exciting out of a movie that is flat and lifeless.

This feels like 2015 Fantastic Four. Rough acting, not a great script, the part where she's explaining the spiders in the amazon was Twilight level comically bad.

Initially it was a blessing in disguise when the cinematic Marvel characters weren't all owned by the same company. It forced them to think outside the box and thus the MCU was born. Now, Sony Pictures is still holding on to Spider-Man's universe while not even using the main character. The movies are garbage to mid but their video games are great. Sony should focus on electronics and games and give the Spider-Man movie rights to Disney.

Agustin was dead right about Sony not caring about the quality of all the Spider-verse movies they release. They're just making these movies to retain the rights of the spider-verse characters they develop and spend more resources on PlayStation games. coz that's where they make money. This trailer gives the same vibes as Morbius which I believe is also gonna fail at the box office.

The trailer reminds me of the New Mutants, as in the film could be good if it embraces these more horror/thriller vibes. I'm quite liking what we've seen

100% all marvel properties need to go to disney. Disney marvel is best marvel in terms of movies. And Spider-Man in the mcu has been great. I would love to see their formula applied to a gwen stacy and miles morales. Id love to see tom holland play off some spider friends again.

Glad to see the reactions back! This movie looks like it's shot and scripted like a fan film. The concept is cool, but man the execution looks so poor. I want to love it so much because of the characters and who they cast to play them, but I just can't see this being even "fun" at a bare minimum. I really hope I'm wrong and this is just a bad trailer, but unfortunately probably not.

Spider-Man doesnt need to be the center. Sony is making these movies because these character's can stand on their own.

We got Ezekial, Madame Web, and Julia Carpenter's Spider-Woman (all characters I've wanted to see live), and I sorta don't give a damn about this. I hate to say it that the only reasons I'd actually want to see it is just to see how they handle Ezekial and Julia, not even curious about Web at all.

Im really curious what they do with ezekiel and for that reason i want to see this. When i was young my only way to get comic books in my hometown was an arcade that had comics as a reward for turning in tickets. So i never had full stories i only ever had single comics here and there. One i remember was with ezekiel, no suit. He was this strange old man that would swing around barefoot in a button up shirt and slacks. I didnt realize it was the same guy but when i googled ezekiel madame web they showed the exact images from the comic i had. To me ezekiel doesnt look right. Hes not evil. So i dont know whats going on here

Well, the thing is that I think Sony is doing something similar to Avengers. First release exclusive movies about various characters and then unite them with Spider-Man.

Welcome back to Hector's nicer camera! 😅 On the conversation, totally agree with Adam on the feel that Sony is just making (and milking) Spiderman/Spider "universe" movies for the sake of making movies.

I don't give 2 bits about the representation or culture war aspects. The trailer looked interesting to me. It's doing its own thing and I'm glad it's not leaning on Spiderman. All the meta commentary in either direction is exhausting and why I usually tune out Hector.

I love Sony's Venom, I like TASM with Andrew Garfield enough, they have their own atmosphere and stuff, but when I saw Madame Web trailer I had really conflicted feelings. It's just... There're something that doesn't sit right. It's like, you're kinda curious and want to pick up interesting parts from there, but can't get a grasp for real. You already voiced out some things, so I don't know how to feel about this upcoming movie, especially since I'm not the only one who's in doubts. Not sure I'd go to see it, honestly. Maybe would give it a try in the internet, but... :C What I DO know, though, is that I'd love to see Beyond the Spider-Verse. Animated movies with Miles are so shockin' good!

this trailer, i saw it in the amazon while researching spiders .... okay 1). i will say, this trailer made me wonder "what's that song? i should look it up?" 2). i'm hoping it's just an edit problem with the trailer 3). my headcannon: the Beyonder from Moon Girl / Devil Dinosaur turns up somewhere with madam web.

A problem going forward too is what if Marvel is pursuing a Midnight Sons storyline? Morbius is so bad I doubt he will appear and if he does I figure that character will be so revamped that Sony will look stupid.

I felt like you guys before I watched the trailer 'cause I was/am NOT at all interested in the Kraven movie that I was like "(*sigh*) Sony, just...stop." BUT, after this trailer, I'm intrigued. Since I only knew OF Madame Webb by seeing a couple of clips from the old Spider-Man cartoon, but not knowing much about her makes me more open to whatever they're going to tell me. I liked the Morbius character from the comics when I read horror comics as a kid, but I wasn't sure about the movie when seeing the trailer. I hoped for the best, but then the world told me that it wasn't good, so I didn't see it. I didn't see "Joker" either even though people keep saying it was great. I have a block that I just have against putting villains as the main characters in a movie. It REALLY bothers me. Hence not interested in Kraven nor the Venom movies, although I did eventually see the first Venom movie this past year and it wasn't terrible, but I didn't want more and it was totally weird to have a villain whose origins are completely tied to Spider-Man without even technically having Spider-Man in his universe. I was glad when people panned the 2nd one 'cause I was like, "Whew, now there's no pressure to see it." Also, on top of my block against villain-centric movies, I never like the character of Venom...at all. I found him so annoying and boring. I feel like I probably will watch "Joker" eventually, but the fact that they're making a 2nd one made me want to see the first one even less. Whenever I think of the second one, I just say, "Ugh." IT JUST MAKES NO SENSE HAVING A VILLAIN WITHOUT A HERO!! AAAAGGGHH!! Sorry about that. It just REALLY gets under my skin. It wouldn't make sense the other way either, a hero without a villain to go up against? Although I like the Joker as a villain quite a bit, making him the center of a story, with no hero, then makes him the defacto protagonist and he is NOT. Same thought came to mind when watching the Kraven trailer. "Oh, we're supposed to root FOR this guy now?" 😆 You guys have a different perspective than most of us, having been behind the scenes to movie productions, so you look at production stuff and critique that more than, I think, the rest of us. I didn't look at this and think anything really about the production design. It didn't leap out at me as looking bad or anything. I tend to focus on story elements also, more than production, and the story does have me intrigued. The concept that this character that we've really only seen already in power and as an old woman in a wheelchair that we now get to see her origin. To see where she started and then get to make the connection/draw the lines to who we know her to become. That interests me. Unlike Hector, I don't know any of the other characters at all so I don't have any knowledge nor expectations for how they should be portrayed.
