Madame Web Reviews FALLOUT Critics DESPISE Industry Changes

Madame Web reviews came out and proved the Box office right for Sony's Marvel Spider-man universe movie. Despite Disney and Disney+ not being part of this separate MCU esque superhero movie, it suffered the same fate. Pulling in less at the box office than Morbius, Spiderman spinoff Madame Web is having knock on effects. But despite the critics reviews agreeing with the audience and Dakota Johnson, will the critics like the industry changes? Is Madame Web worth watching?

Madame Web is the movie that keeps on giving. When a movie is this much of a box office crash everyone dives in to try and work out, but why? Well with great introspection comes great excuses, because they all realise why it failed, they just don't want the inevitable consequences of the industry realising them. Even websites whose critics loved the movie are having to agree that....the other reviews are right. And with industry insiders coming out with the data of who actually goes to the cinema to see these movies. Is it time the industry changed? Or will they realise the problem, and then just ignore it to double down? Let me know your thoughts down below and always, thanks for watching :)

I can’t work it out for the life of me. At some point the bottom line has to count. I understand the tactic of using the DEI shield to preemptively provide excuses for poor box office performances but there has to come a point when their DEI score matters less than their profits/losses.

What's even worse is that they changed the famous Spider-Man quote from "With great power comes great responsibility," to "When you take the responsibility, great power will come." Sounds more like a villain's line, not a superhero.

These studios are using these movies to launder money. That's the only conceivable reason why they're still being made at this below-trash quality, and the people at the helm of them are able to remain in place. These things are designed to be bad, I'm sure of it.

Ikr. Even in the 90s when Bat-nipples put the fear of god in any studio wanting to do superhero movies (that's why those early films got very little budget and less studio interference) they scrambled to get back on track. Wtf happened? Is the ESG money that plentiful? Marvel was making back to back billion dollar films, and now they went from barely hitting half of that to not even sticking a 300m mark! DEI has cost them guaranteed billions!

@kingswing00
@kingswing00 7 месяцев назад
It used to be one of the rare chances people saw celebrities at such an event, so it was more exciting/interesting to see them and was part of the mystique of Hollywood. Actors images were heavily guarded and curated so they were kept more of a mystery. Seeing them in public moments was a novelty. And people, naively, bought into the images. Now we see and hear from them so much that red carpets mean absolutely nothing to people and are just annoying.

In 2005 I was on a chat group and some of the women were lamenting that there were "no" female superhero movies. I mentioned Supergirl, Catwoman, and Elektra (which was in the cinema at that moment). The women cried back "They don't count!" When I asked why, they responded that those movies weren't blockbusters like Superman 1978 or Batman 1989, etc. I asked, "How many times have you seen them in cinema?" They responded: "That's not the point."

They expect other women (and men) to buy the product. Look at the feminists who decry a supposed lack of women in STEM. Kraven was a hunter of big game. He was also an aristocrat and related to another Spiderman villain the Chameleon. He used special herbs to enhance his senses. I get Johnson. She did those chick flicks but wants to be more than the next Shade. The thing is she was pretty good in Bad Times at the El Royale. That was not a huge movie, but her character was more than decent. And the whole movie had some decent wheels under it. Maybe a little lean toward the thinking thriller for major audiences. All I am saying is she should look at what she did there and maybe look for scripts that could echo that sort of feel. Apparently it didn't make budget, but made $7 million opening weekend. Forever now Hollywood has put bad scripts in fron of good and decent actors and ruined careers. She can be another brick in that wall or make a mark in front of the Chinese place. All she needs to do is fight for good scripts, not 'empowering' but just good.

@@tiffanyroberts6460 Except Im tired of hollywood taking comic characters and completely changing them. Iron Man worked because the movie nailed who the character was, RDJ was an insanely spot on casting because he was just like Tony was in the comics . Now we get crap like Secret Wars , or Echo, or Madame Web, which are barely like the comics, where they change up powers/backstory/who the character IS completely., just to shoehorn in what the writers want to say and not what the source material says. Where writers say they didn't like or didn't even read the source material so they just make stuff up! Now we get Kraven, where instead of a egotistical, insane guy who thinks he is the ultimate Chad and wants to literally hunt and kill Spider-Man, we get some tree hugger bitten by a radioactive lion (or something) That's NOT Kraven! So, there is this a broadway play that has been around awhile ("The Producers") that asserted that a small production group actually made more money if their production flopped. I forget the details of why, but the assertion of the play was in order to get a big windfall of money they would set out to make a king daddy of a broadway flop. Of course, as tales like these typically go, despite putting all their might into create a raging flop they accidentally create a runaway hit. Could there be some reality to this? Every once in awhile, especially the last few years, when it seems like they are going out of their way to tank a movie by deliberately swapping genders, races, breaking every known story convention (laughably powerful Mary Sue or a resoundingly stupid McGuffin) that is bound to divide their potential audience, they keep doubling down. I have to occasionally wonder if there is another motivation and much like The Producers, there is some kind of hidden payoff by releasing steaming piles of shit to the box offices...

It's easy to define what makes a great movie. If you want to make a great comic book hero movie then make it about a popular superhero as faithfully as you can, and where it doesn't translate to screen, be as faithful as you can. This is precisely why the LoTR trilogy is considered the GOAT by so many, it is faithful to the source material. In the case of not having pre-existing IP, make a well acted, compelling story about an interesting subject matter and you will make a great movie, Oppenheimer being the example. It's not rocket science, but the fact they don't do this is why they fail.
