Madina announced it’s closure after being forced to kick clubbers out early when bailiffs attended the premises The club reopened for its final night of trade in 2018 Thanks For Watching
I can give you all some history on this place. It was originally fitted out and called The BIRD's NEST in what was then a new building development including the Wyvern Theatre by a local company called EW Beard Ltd who were/are just up the road in Victoria Hill. I was a newly employed trainee there aged 17 and went to the opening night which would have been 1973 or 74, as being the main contractor, were invited (as we all were to the opening of VADIMS in old Town, another nightclub where we did the interior fit out). From that opening night I became regular customer, going 2 or 3 nights a week, and also many lunchtimes, walking down the hill from my office, for a couple of beers, and where they had a stripper a few days a week. It was the same girl, got to know her quite well, (she used to 'do' South Marston Country Club on a Friday too where I knew the DJ, the owner's son) forgotten her name, a big busty brunette girl, married so I was told, so out of bounds, but I was just a strip of a teenager so .............. Returning to The Bird's Nest this was a chain, there were several clubs under this mark, but if I remember rightly, the actual owner of the Swindon club was the same guy who had The Brunel Rooms, again my old memory fails me, and I have forgotten his name, but in those 70's days he was a very successful club owner. Suave chap, bespectacled, a suited headmaster look. So alas, I do not remember this club in this guise as I had long since moved away from Swindon and still today live and work overseas, but I will never ever forget the fantastic nights and fun lunchtimes I had at The Bird's Nest, Wyvern Square. If anyone out there remembers those great days and have their own memories of that time ....... let him/her come forward .......
I only went to this place once around 2017 because they were offering free lifts there. They charged £8 entrance or something and the drinks were the most expensive of any club so I never went back because almost every other club had no entry fee.
Same old. Remember when brunel rooms had the epic rotation bar which would never be allowed these days due to health and safety. . They used to get big names in there. The club scene unfortunately for local places has now died. Rules and regs for local planning and Construction laws also means if someone complains when they move nect a club about the noise. It literally take just one complaint and it get shut down. . Peace and love
Me too. I remember the above as The Bird's Nest, and the The Brunel Rooms where I was regular visitor 3 or 4 times a week. Also Vadims in Old Town, and Level 3 next to/above the Rolleston Arms in Commercial Road. All great places for fun times in a much better era You are right about the Brunel getting big names, I remember seeing Suzi Quattro there in her heyday .......
The first part you went to was the entrance it wasn’t a bar. You’d go in the front up the stairs to the small bar and then down the other stairs to the hotdog/cloak room area where the smoking area was outside that’s what the rails were for
And even as staff we rarely used that underground cut through, the only time we went down the metal stairs was to tip glass bottles. It was never open to public that passage
Nice ,if you happen to go in thereagain any chance of grabbing me a poster or a little mirror with medina on its my mums name be nice in the garage cheers
