a good trick is to isolate the bass sample you want to use and run it through a parametric equalizer that way you can tune the individual frequencies themsleves. turn the low end frequencies up as high as you can with out causing distortion then run everything through a compressor to boost the whole sound. but there are many other ways to do it.

i can't listen to this without thinkin' of INI's "Fakin' Jax" since pete rock used the same sample to make the beat for that and the way lib uses it in this sounds a tad similar dope shit though. makes me wanna go parasailing

Lib is a helluva sonic engineer, but with that, so was Dilla. I don't think you can really say which ones better, because neither is.
