Love this old school shit, much different than the prep work battle rappers do nowadays. The real skill is when you ain't got no prep. Makes your brain work.

Exactly... I hate the battle rap scene today. I prefer the scene up until maybe '06... once this rehearsed, pre-written, dramatic posturing, pauses and bullshit began, I stopped watching it. Give me the witty punchlines and humor over the gun bars, too.
Iron Solomon is a great lyricist, but Madness sets it off so fucking funny, that I kept laughing through the battle... I've seen this video so many times throughout the years 😂
Solomon is a genius. Nobody thinks quicker. I know he had pre-writtens for every battle, and I know he recycles his own shit, but if you really understand how hard it is to think on your feet during a battle, you'd know that he's the best ever. I'm not a dick rider (in fact, I think he's gotten much worse since his early days) but every time I watch his old battles I'm even more impressed.
We always take a (top-tier) battler and watch their whole "carreer" (chronological....) It takes a little prep. to make the playlist but it's great ( imho ) to have a Hollow-night or Solomon-night .... we need actual freestyles now rather than this written shit takes away from the ones who are really ill. Might just have something i want to put in motion to do it. Real freestyles and ciphers show who the real MC's are.
In case you weren't paying attention, Madness flipped every single thing Solomon said. You can't assume someone freestyles because they talk about someones clothes.... Certainly you can make a rap about someone's polo/v neck/ cut off/ jersey... that's not hard. Now when Madness responded to the "NY hat" line... That was freestyled.

Battles were so much funnier back then. Ever since then it became about acting hard and 99% of the stuff is written/99% of it is ppl rapping about violent crimes they’ve never committed.
After hanging tough the first round, Madness got ate. I've never been a big fan of Iron, but he does beast on dudes, and I think he would probably still beat Madness today -- and Madness is a beast now.
