My girls! There was nothing more powerful, more intimidating, more glamorous than this trio. I’m still enthralled with Niki and Donna and even though they are long gone from Madonna’s repertoire; they will always live in my heart as the best background vocalists and ladies-in-waiting who have ever graced this planet. Much respect, ladies!!! ❤️
Madonna was the only artist in the world in which she not only let her background singers merely just a background but also she let them shine too. No one else can treat background singers like that.
Alice Cheung yes, I miss that trio as well. Maybe someday a reunion performance. Everyone says what a great business woman Madonna is. That would be a smart move on her part.
MADONNA WAS THE ONLY ARTIST WHO GAVE THE BACKING VOCALS SINGERS THE CHANCE TO SHINE TOO. WE NEVER SAW THIS BEFORE AND WE DON'T SEE IT NOW. I MEAN, WHO ELSE DID THAT?
Rolling Stones, Lisa Fisher. Small Faces, PP Arnold in Tin Soldier, Bob Marley, the I trees. Well, actually you are right, I cannot yet find a solo artist or group that did this in the same way as Madonna did with Nikki & Donna
When their voice blended together, the range was a lot wider and sounded so dynamic, especially Niki's voice which sounded like an echo. It is like ABBA's two female vocalist, Agnetha and Frida. I don't think Madonna's music sound the same without Niki and Donna voice in it.
I think it has to do more with that being Madonna’s best period creatively. Niki and Donna are great singers and after so many years of working together, they developed a trust and comfort blending together, but there are tons of great singers out there and anyone is replaceable. Madonna of course is not because no one will ever be as talented, smart and fearless as her at the top of her game.
But that would mean admitting she made a mistake in letting them go in the first place, which she'll never do. Her second mistake was to stop working with Patrick Leonard.
Maurice Rivers the other mistake was to work with Jamie King, I don't like the idea to put the backing singers behind, that's why N&D stop working with her, fuck Jamie King!
They WERE the best girl group of the late-80s to early 90's...and they technically weren't a group! lol. I love niki and donna. perfect back-up singers and i think they helped madonna with her vocal confidence on stage. madonna is a very good pop singer (so let's not compare her to niki).
Niki, Donna and Christopher were a huge part of the magic that created Madonna's live performances and recordings. Once they left (and Patrick Leonard's brilliant songwriting skills and pop hits), so did the magic formula. Madonna would do well to bring them all back, because she's been lost ever since. Her core fanbase will always support her, but artistically, she is of the past and has been replaced by the new crop of pop queens. She had her time, and a time it was.
Very true - I read an interview with her about it. She was quite dignified about it, but you got the impression that if that was the director's vision (to be stuck at the back of the stage), then she had to live with it...
Donna and Nikki weren't the only backup singer's Madonna had on tour, album recording-session work; Siedah Garrett who sang backup on True Blue album/and entirety of The Re-Invention Tour-additionally she was Michael Jackson's duet partner on his 1987 hit "I Just Can't Stop Loving You",and she co-wrote the song "Man In The Mirror, ' Debra Parsons with Niki and Donna during the entire Who's That Girl Tour, Jackie Jackson, Richard Marx , Edie Lehmann -also provided background vocals on the True Blue Album, N'Dea Davenport with Niki and Donna on I'm Breathless album. Originally Madonna wanted 3 female backup singers for her Blond Ambition world tour - Madonna was adamant about hiring singer N'Dea Davenport as her backup singer for the 'Blond Ambition' tour along with Niki & Donna. N'dea was thrilled to be asked. But in the end,she decided to sing lead in the band Brand New Heavies, and had to reject Madonna's offer. On Like A Prayer Niki, Donna, Marilyn Martin, Ali Nadirah, Lynne Fiddmont, Rose Banks, Marcos Loya, And we can't forget the 2 flamboyant male backup singers & dancers Lyndon Johnson & Michael Perea on The Virgin Tour.
grea t work with d vid! Its always lovely to see d three goddesses together. girlie show was one magnificent tour, donna and nikki really held there own in it.
on the "music" video there wasn't donna, so if you include something without Donna you should include also the confessions tour where there is no Nikki but Madonna +Donna
Jovial Faltisco when I saw my sister up on stage with Madonna for the first time (Atlanta, who’s that girl tour) I was like omg, she’s on stage with her.
+Rafael Caetano Donna Delory was in confessions not Niki Harris, she got a new girl that happened to be Nikki Richards.. kinda looked similar wide hips. but the humor is missing from the original donna and niki :( now its Nikki Richards and the Donna impersonator I like to say lol
@biyuk63 Was the same way with Diane "Diana" Ross & The Supremes. She didn't have the best voice but was very commercial and the most "white looking," and therefore the "prettiest," and most "marketable."
