You can also carefully use a cotton swab w/ alcohol and gently clean the wire that can be seen inside the slot. Even though the air is filtered, it is not pure and will eventually dirty the wire that "senses" the air flow. I have "rejuvenated" my sensor numerous times w/o buying another. Having a spare is always a great idea too.
Quick drying no residue electronics spray cleaner is always the best option though. You shouldn't be touching anything at all, there's very sensible and expensive stuff inside.
The screws are called pentalobe security if you want to search for the proper tool (they are not torx). I hacksawed a slot into my screws to remove (and reinstall) them quick and easy with nowt more than a flatblade.
D5 is a T10, so a little different. My MAF sensor looks as though it's moulded in place. It's not, but how it comes apart is anyone's guess. I shall try twisting it tomorrow! Your videos are really helpful. 🙏
highly interesting!. the fact that you've googled that particular number and its shown you the various different cars that they use the same maf sensor on. I've only just broken mine now on my Hyundai coupe which is why I'm checking out the different vids to get different ideas. I touched a wire ever so gently with a screw driver and it broke away. now the car runs like a lemon. Lol. best vid so far. top notch!
GREETINGS, I FIND UR INFORMATION TO BE VERY USEFUL. I HAVE A S80 VOLVO 2002, MY VEHICLE IS CURRENTLY PARKED BECAUSE I AM ON ABLE TO GET A MASS AIR FLOW SENSOR IN JAMAICA FOR A GOOD PRICE. BASED ON UR VIDEO IT SEEMS LIKE THE SAID ITEM IS USED IN OTHER VEHICLE...RESPECT
At least , here in the US, Harbor Freight sells a complete set for about $11 and change USD. The set is very good and reasonable quality made from the finest Chinesium possible. These screws with the stem in the middle is called a security bolt/screw if memory serves me. Cheers !
£290 for my 2.5 Focus ST including housing from Ford dealer (sales guy said you cannot get a sensor only) . £230 with housing from Dreamscience and Pumaspeed. £88 for a genuine sensor only off the net, NO CONTEST. For what it’s worth my part is BOSCH F 00C 2G2 061
with regauds to the part number for the maf sensor does it mater if the last 3 digits of the part number are different?. ive seen a few on ebay with the last 3 digits different for porche vauxhall fiat etct.. your car is a volvo mine is a foucus st mk2 with the volvo engine that uses that maf sensor. i know im 7 years late lol..
parryrocks11 second agoI have just replaced the MAS on my 2001 V70. It no runs perfectly. Before it was hesitating when pulling away and under load, and throttle pedal felt a bit unresponsive. I had tried cleaning the MAS with MAF spray cleaner, but it is not easy has most of it is enclosed. The slightest dirt or oil on the sensor will cause it to send a weak mixture message to the brain.
I want to rebuilt my MAF sensor for my 1995 mercedes e420. The MAF is different then the one in your video. part # is 000 094 01 48. I tried separating the meter from the housing and it just doesn't want to get out. any Hints ? thanks
Thank you 4 that awesome information that's has helped me heaps. Do you no anything about a Nissan tiida 2004 battery current sensor P1550 I can't find it on the car and the dealers are not helpful.
I have a really old school MAF that needs replaced in a 1987 Suzuki G10T engine. My ONLY option is buying junkyard MAFs which are a rare score and $150. Trouble is mine looks a lot different. Its got a big flapper on it and a big boxy housing. Says Suzuki right on it. Maybe I should take it apart and see whats inside? Does this change the tune of my engine changing out to a different MAF? I'm probably overthinking this...
It may not be this simple. They all use the same part, but the parts may be programmed differently for different cars (manufacturer-specific output versus flow curve). I once looked into buying these 100 at a time and offering custom programming to fit whatever car the customer had.
The pcm controls most of the electronic modules on the vehicle. The Maf just relays air density by heating a signal wire to tell the pcm how much fuel to start the engine . If cold starts are cranking longer the maf is dirty.
Great vid dude, thank you, I have troubles to loosing off the screws. it seems to be a special tool for you talked about Unfortunately I couldn't understand which torx you mean (maf torx?/Which one is needed/the standard torx I have are not fitting at all). Are you so kind to send me a link for? Thank you and cheers from Germany
I have a Saab93 1.9tid that sometimes has a rough idle, the torque app registers 14g/s at idle! Have you noticed what yours reads? I will clean egr and map sensor in due course also, thanks
@@sirobb Oh well, mine showed 12.75g/s at idle with a 1.2 naturally aspirated petrol engine and rised and fell together with engine speed too, but the car still jerked a lot in low rpm and high load. Got a matching second hand MAF assembly, disassembled the probe from the housing with the pentalobe torx and repeatedly cleaned both the IAT thermistor and the thin film sensing element repeatedly alternating between spraying them with canned isopropyl alcohol and wiping them with paper tissues, fitted that replacement probe to the car's MAF housing and now the engine no longer jerks under load, and it has much greater torque in the lowest gears...
I removed my screws by cutting a slot with a hacksaw and using a flat blade screwdriver. Then I cleaned the insert using brake cleaner and a Q tip and ruined it. I've found that unless you're buying a Chinese knockoff it's no cheaper to buy the insert than it is to buy the whole MAF.
HOTT LAA'VA MEDIA/SPORTTS If you think the MAF sensor is faulty, unplug it and see if the car starts and drives any better. The car will still drive very badly though so you only do this to test.
These MAF sensors are big rip off by the manufacturers, I recently priced up one for a zafira B and it was 300 pounds, needless to say I didn´t buy it. I went for a second hand one for 50 pounds. I have seen others for different models for as low as 30 pounds new, God even the BMW, and Mercedes ones were cheaper than the Zafira. I don´t understand why they are so expensive
Because that stuff is built to very close tolerance in order to allow the most precise measurement. The most expensive part is not the body, but the probe inside. The probe can apparently be bought separately from Pierburg, at least for my Bosch 0 280 218 031.
