since audio isnt great, can I use an external audio source and mix it with this to produce synched video-audio to wirecast? or do u recommend me some other gear to use my cam with hdmi output? really thanks!
+ijamesweb hi and thanks for your answer. unfortunately I dont have chrome cast... and im starting to freaking out about how to sync sound with this dongle. im used to just plug in my logitech webcams into my pc, bring my drum mics in to a sound software like protools trough my sound card (wich is recognized by wirecast) so it sync with vídeo just fine. will this card dont work the same way? thanks!
I want to connect my Canon 5D Mark 2 to my MacBookPro (as a high quality webcam) and have ScreenFlow recognize the DSLR as a video source. Will the Magewell work for that? (I already can get the DSLR into the Mac using Canon's EOS Utility 2 - but ScreenFlow doesn't recognize it.) Thanks.
can you use this with a hdmi switcher so i don't have to buy a tri caster like you have and i can have a whole solution to switch cameras and record everything in my pc?
Hi Lon, Looks interesting, but in watching this video, it seems as though there's a bit of a lag in the video and that the audio is off a bit too. Is this truly the case? or does it keep in sync with the streaming video?
Yes it does show up there but no sound from the tricaster is reaching it and it should be coming through the HDMI cable. are there any settings that need to be changed in the gear icon on program out window or in the audio tab in Tricaster that will then allow the sound to come through? PS THANKS for getting back to me. I APPRECIATED your help
Lon, Now that it has been a while, I was wondering what if any audio workaround you are using with the Tricaster. I have a Mini with the Advanced Software and I am looking for exactly what this Magewell will do for Skype interviews. Another question. with the plethora of sub $200 pcs out there, is there one you'd recommend to serve solely as a skype box with the magewell? Thanks.
Hi Lon When you switch to the QuickTime capture of the Magewell the video image seems more grainy/compressed than the signal you get directly from your Tricaster. Does the video output of the Magewell actually look this bad, or is it because of the compression done i QuickTime?
Your opinion or thoughts? Could I use the "Elgato Game Capture HD60 S" USB 3.0 External Capture Card" instead of the "Magewell USB Capture HDMI / SDI"? Would it work the same for live broadcast? Not using for gaming, but capturing conference camera w/HDMI out. The Elgato is about $100 cheaper.
Hi Lon, Nice video. I'm considering buying one. Question..I have a sennheiser wireless mic hooked to my camera, would it slow down the video and how should the audio sound as it captures?
Hey Lon, do you know if this will convert a Canon T3i into a webcam to do live capturing? Specifically the HDMI passthrough not he camera is not capable of displaying 1080; I think it downscales it which makes it look bad when your'e trying to frame a shot.
Hello Lon, great info. I have an question and need for the reverse of this device. I have a Black Magic ATM I am setting up in a nonprofit rural radio station and would love to be able to use their existing USB webcams plugging them into a (hopefully) cheap USB to HTMI adaptor. Do you know of or have toyed with any ? Any help would be very helpful. Thank you !
+Lon Seidman Thank you Lon. That was my conclusion, but I did just see a video on a USB to HDMI adaptor & hope to find & buy a cheap one and try it out if I can. Thank you for the response and the fantastic info in your videos. Since I moved from LA CA to a rural eastern WA lot miles from town I only have cell data and I am very much looking forward to doing some Skype interviews at the radio station soon to be TV studio with high speed internet !
Lon: What is the matrix box you use to control the Mini. I just got a Trickster Mini for my model railroad channel. I work as you do alone so the devise would be a great help. Thanks
looks very ood for my purposes but I want to come off the presenter's laptop, hdmi, and split one for the overhead and one for the Magewell. What splitter would you recommend? Also, is is possible (or desirable) to eliminate hdcp at the splitter?
Hi Lon I have tricaster and have just plugged in the Magewell. My mac sees it through Skype but all I get is a black screen IE I need to get the program OUT in tricaster to pass through the Magewell. Basically I want to use this with Hangouts so I can push my live switching from tricaster to Hangouts.
Hi Lon. Tricaster mini yes. (are they just not the BEST thing....!!!! )Connections 1 and 2 are program out. Stream is on Follow 1. Net work is on follow 1. I have just discovered that my 20ll model macbook pro is only USB 2! so I am pretty sure this is the issue. Just been and bought a new windows laptop with USB 3 I suspect this will now all work. :-) Love your review BTW
Would this product work if I plan to use it as a web cam for a service, like Go to Webinar or Webex? I need a good resolution camera and want to use it with my Sony a77II DSLR (1080p) HMDI output.
Hi Lon, Great video! I watched the google hangout video and thought is was ok. However, I wanted to know if encoders such as wircast, manycam etc pick up the camera as easily as skype and google hangouts does.
I use to use Windows Media Center for TV, and now I've switched to TIVO, due to lack of support. One thing I miss about using WMC, is I was able to play TV in a window on my PC while doing other things. I would like to be able to re-create that scenario, as best I could, granted there would be no mouse/keyboard input, which is fine, and only remote input. Would this device do it?
300 bucks? Wow...just wow. I can buy a whole camcorder for less then the device that allows it to work. Society purchasing this device at that price needs to give their head a shake!!!
Here it is... 1/6th the price... now to find some reviews on it... www.aliexpress.com/item/DC-5V-1080P-HD-Video-Game-Capture-HDMI-Recorder-Card-HDMI-AV-TV-Video-Recorder-Intel/32755302264.html?ws_ab_test=searchweb0_0,searchweb201602_1_10000560_10000073_10000561_10000074_10000175_10000507_10000401_10000505_10000068_10000063_10099_10000156_10096_10000569_10000097_10000094_10000090_10000091_10000147_10000144_10084_10000150_10083_10119_10080_10000153_10082_10081_10110_10111_10112_10113_10000535_10114_10000534_10000089_10000086_10000083_10000135_10000080_10078_10079_10073_10000140_10070_10122_10123_10120_10126_10124_10000546_10065_10068_10000132_10000033_10000030_10000126_10000026_10000129_10000023_10000123_432_10060_10062_10056_10055_10054_302_301_10059_10000120_10000020_10000117_10000013_10103_10102_10000016_10000114_10000111_10052_10053_10050_10107_10051_10106_10000621_10000384_10000101_10000100_10000579_10000104_10000045_10000578_10000108_10000612_10000613_10000390_10000042_10000592_10000039_10000587_10000036_10000389_10000187-10120,searchweb201603_2,afswitch_1_afChannel,ppcSwitch_5,single_sort_3_price_asc&btsid=a2d4c714-1cac-4e68-854e-7b4fecce442f&algo_expid=ab11eea0-59d0-4b86-ba42-947af3ec0b80-25&algo_pvid=ab11eea0-59d0-4b86-ba42-947af3ec0b80
Hi, i will really like to use this magwell capture dongle for video capturing with vmix.... and the video will be coming from a blackmagic atem mixing console, do you think it will work for me that way?
This is such good stuff Lon. Im somewhat a novice starting my own web series and your help is PRICELESS! if its not a bother, my final question on this topic is the Blackmagic ultra studio mini recorder is less than 1/2 the price of the Magewell. so is there any limitations with the Blackmagic device(I am using it solely for Live RU-vid) compared to the Magewell (i know the Blackmagic doesn't work for Skype but I don't need it to). I'm on a Macbook pro and using the Canon HDC r62 as a web cam. Many Thanks--
man, ill tell ya, I'm a live sound guy but I've only recently taken on the huge task of capturing and editing my videos. I'm actually recording my first video on sept 23 then I'm going to begin the task of editing and getting them on my youtube channel, The Musicians Bootlick. but i don't even know what encoding is yet! LOL a lot to learn for me huh...WOW!
Hey Lon me again ive been doing some research on this device just wanted to know if it captures on the ATEMs Default 1080i /59.94 if it does im going to go with this over the Intensity shuttle
It looks this will also work if I want to use My laptop's Screen for my PS4 using HDMI (knowing that the HDMI my laptop has is Only Out but no IN )so using this adaptor I can get the image by USB. weird but I willtry it. now the question would be, Once I connect it all, wich program I need to open the video receptor likea Tv screen you have in your pc. grretings from Paris.
I bought this.... now my problem: how to set up my Canon ^d working on it. the camera shut down automatically after a while. I guess some setting there. can you help? thanks
I'm thinking to pick up one of these, since it works with OBS. Did you notice if there was any delay when using it or was it pretty much real time? Mostly been thinking to use it to capture a handycam / micro fourthirds camera when I build models but don't want to fiddle too much with audio sync etc. Edit: Also it only seems to support uncompressed PCM audio, so that's why you're probably getting really bad audio quality with it.
Searching for a capture card to coexist with my ATEM switcher for live events so low latency is important, can you tell us how many frames of a delay does this have? Also, I've seen some reviews stating that it doesn't deal well with compressed audio signals such as Dolby, DTS and such but it's smooth with uncompressed PCM, maybe that was the problem with the audio you got? Did your camera output compressed sound? can you verify how it handles uncompressed audio? Because like you said, if the audio thing is good (given you're feeding it uncompressed audio) that it's a blast...
+Lon Seidman Too bad about the audio... that's kind of a deal breaker if i want to use it for streaming... I getting out of ideas for a decent capture card that actually works... :(
I don't understand one thing. The audio quality only got bad when you captured it through quicktime, but it sounded great before so isn't that quicktimes fault not the Magewell?
***** it would be really great if you could capture it in Windows 10 camera app or my favorite "YouCam Mobile" which is also a modern Win 10 app. =). I believe it could still be quicktimes fault.
Interesting that you mentioned blackmagic. I bought a shuttle intensity, and it was a pain to get working and kept crashing. Even with slightly less quality audio this was great.
AGPtek Game Capture Streaming Video HD 1080P 720P w/ IR Video Capture for PS4 and PS3, XBOX ONE, N64, Blu-ray via HDMI, Ypbpr component/composite Input, USB Flash or SD card Work or not
2:18 It seems once you engage the software, there is a much larger lag on video . . . Can you comment on the video lag if you wanted to use this as a real time camera monitor? Thank You!
Great video!.. actually I am looking to play PS4 on my Macbook Air... will this work? Also I don't want to capture anything just display PS4 games on Macbook Air... any suggestions/...
Is there a device that allows you to plug in a USB in the tv and it displays hdmi? Like a hdmi to USB? EX: if I plug in the hdmi into an Xbox one, and there is something (a device) that you plug the other end of the hdmi into, and on the back of the device there is a place where you put in a USB, and then you put the other end of the USB in the tv, and it shows the xbox one? Sorry for the whole paragraph, the hdmi's on my tv broke, and I'm trying to figure out an alternative way to watch tv or play Xbox on the SAME tv. Please respond someone!!!
do today's time has a connector for thunderbolt to USB 3.0 or HDMI, because i dont have thunderbolt port in my laptop what can i do about this? can anyone send me link for the items that converters thunderbolt to usb 3.0 or HDMI
This is actually quite normal, and even though I have never need it, a lot of computers can do this. It's useful in order to add a display without having to add a video card on the computer. The drawback is that normally, it can't output high frame rate and it probably has a bit of latency, so it's good for work, but not really good for games or playing movies. Anyway, all you need to do is search for USB to HDMI adapters, there are tons out there.
Who cares about the price. Can I connect my Canon Vixia HV40 HDMI out to capture my HD video to my 2017 iMac? The camera's firewire doesn't work anymore. If it works for my set up, I'll pay $300. Functionality should be the primary concern then the price.
HI Lon Its all good and works seamlessly. DON'T upgrade to windows 10 as it will not work as drivers are not ready for USB3. All you will get is a black screen. (windows is doing an update for it, but it may require something from Magewell) I used this to push a live training show out via hangouts and it all looks good. Here is a link to the show just posted. Quality is pretty good. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-cHrYHoc06yM.html
wow 300 thats a lot. still a cool gadget though, especially if it can handle dsrls too. there's a guy on youtube that apparently makes all kind of video grabbers, just search andy febon. not sure about the prices but maybe it's cheaper
