Hello all, this time we are in Qrendi Malta and we are going to explore Tal-Mghalaq Catacombs and Misqa tanks.
The Maghlaq Phoenician Rock cut tombs are another interesting and large family vault in good preservation, on the brow of the Mghalaq valley, about a quarter of a mile to the northwest of the Mnajdra temples, in a rural tenement denominated Habel l-Abjad. This sepulchral vault was explored the first time by Dr L. Adams and Bishop Errington in 1865 and surveyed in 1893. A small arched opening leads into a subterranean galley excavated in the rock, whilst another leads into a small separate circular and vaulted cell. Over this entrance, a semi oval depression covered still in part with red cement was probably intended for a tablet. This simple circular cave was fitted for two interments with two coffin shaped hollows for the reception of two corpses, on the ground.
We are also going to explore Misqa tanks, Situated on the brow of the hill to the west of the road leading from Hagar Qim to the Mnajdra temples, one comes across another interesting site unique to the village of Qrendi. In a limestone plateau, at an area know as “Il-Misqa” meaning “Watering place”, several large reservoirs can be found presumably dug by Neolithic man in the quest to quench the temple workers thirst.Bell shaped reservoirs built in such a manner allowing rainwater to be collected, channeled and stored with the minimal of losses. Their mouths covered with large stone blocks helping to reduce evaporation from the suns hot rays and providing protection to its user. Presently most of the stone covers are missing, presumably dumped into the wells themselves, however those remaining are clear examples of the workers skill and ingenuity in allowing easy access to the well whilst offering security to the person drawing water from the well.

Are you 100% sure that they are Phoenician catacombs> I would say more like Roman era. BTW fantastic video as I never knew they existed
@PierreFarrugia

I would not dare say, I am not a historian, all my info comes from Qrendi Local Council website, have a look in video description and thanks.
@BaronEisenblut

Pierre introduces the tomb as paleo-Christian, which means Roman, and is correct. I believe the term Phoenician in the description is however incorrect, but this is not Pierre's fault since the error seems to be within the Qrendi Council webpage which describes them as being so.
