First, thank you for doing this to show how the graphic EQ can be used to tune a system. A few notes: This is a previous version of the build and the process of measuring and the method of calculating the target curve has changed. People shouldn't judge based on the target curve shown here. The bass rise shown in the target curve is due to the previous measurment method and the fact fhat Channa sits right up against a rear wall where the bass waves stack up and it shows in the target curve response. This method is a last resort for those who have no other option than to use graphic EQ. The advantage of trying this method is that you can bypass Audyssey's initial EQ to flat and enter the corrections in directly using the measurements you've taken. If you have a Denon or Marantz that is compatible with MultEQ-X, and you're interested in using True Target, I would highly recommend getting it.

Hello, thanks for your videos. I have today 5.1.2 setup with 2 of the speakers in ceiling, on an Onkyo 686. Have ordered a Denon 3800H and I want to go: 5.1.6 I think. I want to test out Auro 3d and I also want Atmos and DD compatability. It seems then maybe I have to do: 5.1. ear level, 2 front height, 2 rear height and 2 in ceil? Or do you have a better suggestion where all speakers would be used? I just want inwall/inceil, but I have yet to buy more speakers as I dont know what to buy to utilize the 3800H with Auro/DD/Atmos in the best way. (I am prepared to add amplifier to utilize extra channels processed). Mainly using netflix as source, playing from LG 77C3. But it is also used for gaming, thats the main reason for switching reciever beause I want VRR, 4K 120Hz HDR 4:4:4 etc. But what setup would you speaker-wise do with the Denon 3800H? Since I aleready have 5.1 on "ground level" and I have 2 speakers in ceiling. I cant do 7 on floor, as on one side I have a large window and the other side I have a large opening in the room. And I want inwall/inceil. Currently running B&W inwall and inceil-speakers and Arendal 1V sub.

MultEQ-X is PC software that costs $199. It is much more robust. This video shows how to enter an eq curve without the use of the MultEQ app.

Great question! Both of those will do the same thing. Meaning they will give you a generic target curve to tune your system. Magic beans will create a custom target curve for your room, so you will inherently get a better Home Theater experience with a custom target curve. It takes into account what your speakers are capable of and what your room is doing to the sound at MLP. Then it generates a target curve specific to your room. Dirac allows you to enter a target curve but it doesn’t tell you what it should be. Most people just leave it alone.

Even the tablet version of MultEQ has a curve import, or least I thought it did, is there no way to convert or import the magic beans target into the app for export to receiver? Also I've heard you guys mention magic beans but haven't been following along close enough to know exactly what it is. Sounds like it's an custom app made by Joe to tailor a correction target to your specific room, for i assume a reanoable cost? I'll check out the beta page to see if it has more info. And hey thanks to you and Caleb for the Spacial CD, I haven't had a chance to dig in to it yet, but I'm excited to

@@TechnoDad looks like you can import a correction curve that's been created and saved from audessy. So not that helpful. I guess in the grand scheme what's another few hundred in the quest for better sound.

Not really, there’s a ton you can do with the toolkit. Have you looked at the calibration guide or the tutorial videos? There’s also the discord group where you can ask questions specific to your system. Check out the tutorial videos. I would also check out the calibration guide which came with the disc - technodad.biz/SACTTUTJNT - main sections I would go through are level matching, crossovers, and timing. There are plenty more but I would start with those.

My assumption after watching one of you previous vids, was that the whole process would be smoother with Magic Beans so I was just sorta holding off until I get a copy. I tried to get signed up for the Beta test but wasn't selected. I don't have a problem buying the Audysee MultEQ-X license so I can follow your (and Joe's) tutorial video exactly.
