It's so nice to see you performing for prisoners. I'm sure they truly appreciated. I love how clean your magic is, and that beautiful feeling the audience gets when their so close to the trick, all huddled up and just absorbed in what is happening before their eyes.

My parents did a gig in a prison years ago as part of a choir. There was a hiccup when one of the band members locked his keys in his car with a lot of the kit. One of the guards said "Don't worry," got one of the prisoners, and the car was open in seconds! 🤣

DanroccAnimated Remember when we used to lock up people instead of giving them the care, resources and help they needed to not be driven to “crime” . Surely anyone who would do something that you would find immoral has some kind of mental illness?

It took about six months to arrange all the details. Didn't hurt that I could send them the links to my TV series and book, but you're right that they obviously take security very seriously. The first visit we'd planned (to a different prison) had to be canceled due to a massive prison fight and resulting lockdown. So, to answer your question, a lot of hard work and some luck, too.

It's probably not as hard as you'd imagine. Plenty of prisons do public tours and the smart wardens are always open to ways to reward their well behaved inmates.

The constant confirmation and reassurance that the magician isn't doing anything fishy is one of my pet peeves. Like that very first scene he kept saying "there's no way i can change the cards". First of all, your a magician. Ofc you're doin' something fishy. Secondly, that's only more suspicious. In my own experience, over playing like that decreases the magic and experience of the final reveal. The silent/quiet or even casual magicians always have the best reveals imo. Good video though

It depends on context and performance style. Sometimes it's important to remind people of what they saw or else they might lose some of the magic. Also, different performers use different energy levels in their performances, and the explanation fits well in to some of them.

Yeah, I hear you. Really, I'm gauging the spectators all the time and adjusting my approach to best serve the people who are there with me in the room. Sometimes an audience needs silence, but sometimes you really have to take them by the hand and walk them through the steps to help them appreciate the ending. This was especially true of the prisoners, as they were initially skeptical of this entire process. Anyway, thanks for watching and giving your input.

I know your intention is good but I never understood why entertainers go to entertain the prisoners. They are there for a reason. Each of them has at least one victim. Why not spend the money and time with the victims instead of doing that for the people who caused the suffer?

Yeah, I do that, too. Also, prisoners are still people. But I also wanted to see if my ideas about magic would hold true even in the most aggressive, antagonistic place I could find. Like, it's one thing to give people the experience of magic in a theater when they've paid for a ticket and are ready to be amazed. I wanted to find out if I could do the same thing with a tougher crowd.

Some countries do prison in a way that you retain all your rights as a citizen but without the liberty to travel or leave. This is because they believe that even in a punishment, a prisoner should be treated like a human being and rehabilitated.

"maximum security facility- These types of prisons are reserved for violent offenders (and/OR) those who have escaped (or tried to escape) OR inmates who could cause problems in lower security prisons." sounds like max security isn't just for violent offenders so if that was your criteria then...? If you don't think any and all prisoners deserve entertainment... Why?

@@benjaminishere Prisoners deserve all they can get inside there. The prison system is wrong for offenders anyway and there are better ways of helping them.
