Magic loop with 4 single crochet (4 sc) stitches

I've been having problems where the first stitch after making the first row in the ring is too tight, so I make an extra stitch and skip it. Especially since usually the next step is increases. I also tighten the middle ring again after making one more row, you have more to hold on to while tightening.

I hated this it was so hard at first but that is just the skill confusing and hard but I sort of got it so thank you so much for the tutorial❤

Thanks, I found this video helpful. I wish you would include it in the Penguin tutorial for the beak. I also wish the narrator would make these videos without using vocal fry. It's really distracting.

How do I do this with medium 4 Red Heart Super Saver black yarn? I cannot for the life of me figure out where my stitches are. I’ve tried a neck light, putting stitch markers in each stitch I make, using a larger crochet hook, wearing a white shirt to see what I’m doing and I still cannot see the stitches I am making 😔 Please leave a comment and let me know how you overcame this dilemma I’m in.

Anyone know if this is step 1 for the snout in felix the fox? The instructions that come with it just said “start 4 sc in a magic loop” with no video?
