There is a video on RU-vid where Roger Fisher explains that he tuned up for that effect. So you're exactly right. He stated he was afraid to bend either string because he worried they'd break.
Roger Fisher played both guitar parts on this song and it's documented that he tuned E to G and B to D and broke a ton of strings during the recording the song.
The interview was in the suggested sidebar. 43 seconds in he breaks the B tuning it up. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ATaS7o9C_qY.html
Roger fisher is the most underrated songwriter , player of the 70's early 80's . Alot of his parts are impossible to play and he had a killer ear for gear . In my opinion his fills are harder than van halen fills .. ( especially solo part from magic man) lol
I agree with you on-the synth part! Never liked it. I learn more songs in a week from you than I would in months before. The most to the point efficient lessons on here IMO! Love the deep cuts you cover that have been forgotten by most. Many Thanks!
Yep, you nailed it. In the video Fisher shows how he did the lead avoiding the high tuned strings that would break when bent. He actually breaks one while tuning.
You got it right! You have a good ear. If I can't figure out a song, I find that you know how to play it. Roger Fisher of Heart, tuned his guitar to get that sound, and you figured it out. Very good.
Isn't that how it goes, bro? Just driving around listening to the radio n get inspire to play/learn a song when you get home... Happened to me the other day with BoC - Burning For You. Sometimes you listen to a song on autopilot like 1000x times and never really LISTEN to it to appreciate it. ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS loved Heart tho. I remember my mom listening to them on the car rides, and even back then I though to myself this band FUCKING jams! Ann and Nancy Wilson fucking RoCk so hard! As far as the synth part goes - I like it. It's pretty tight. But hey, different strokes for different folks. I can see it not being everyone's cup of tea. White Lightning and Wine is a GREAT track off this album.
Thanks for all your lessons and knowledge! This is one big Texas fan of yours. You have taught me more about the stones than keef has. Lol. Have a great day !
I enjoy your videos, and the knowledge you’re passing on to others. Keep on rocking! Also, I agree with you. The synthesizer section in Magic Man could have been cut. It’s a great song that could have been made even better, had they pared the song back about a minute and a half to two minutes. In any case, thanks for the video!
Really enjoy your videos. I'm going to try that tuning. I might tune all the other strings down a step and then adjust the first e string accordingly so I won't break the e string. Of course I won't be playing the record. Keep up the great videos.
Once again I found the way to play a song at your site.I mostly end up at yours.Cool song and I heard it todaqy and decided to try it out.Still have some thoughts about tuning up the B string to D and the E to G.Is the tension not to high to risk snapping the string.Could it be you ment to tune E down to D and maybe let the b as it is somewhat like open G tuning ?Then there is no risk to break the strings. The way you tuned it sounds right to me but could it be done like I wrote?
How were you able to isolate the song's Rythm guitar part like that while keeping everything else? Vocals, leads, synth, etc? What hardware or software do you use? Thanks!
I think that you are correct but I believe that it's being played by two different Guitarists. Going from that upstroke to the F chord takes some tricky timing for a single player.
