I love seeing Roger’s enthusiasm for guitar playing, his tangible joy just hanging and riffing with you and sharing his licks!
@ghosttownreview1531
@ghosttownreview1531 2 года назад
Tangible joy is a great way to put it. In the early 90s I had the privilege of recording demo versions of songs for my new band at Roger's home studio. We didn't have a lead guitarist yet so I ended up hacking my way through solos. I was feeling very intimidated with Roger in the room watching me but he did a great job of putting me at ease and seemed genuinely interested in what I was doing. Even though he didn't need to be in the studio with us he was clearly having a great time just hanging with us for the 4 or 5 days we were at his studio. Went out to lunch with us one day too just to talk shop about the business side of the music industry. He's a genuinely cool guy.

He loves the next town over from me and we gig at the same spot. My band and I were at the place for an open mic and Roger rolls up. I’m a massive fan boy so I just keep my distance. Roger gets up there with that very guitar and jams out with two other guys and he floored us all. Just completely lit up the crowd on a Tuesday night. Mr. Fisher made it feel like the weekend was here and was never gonna end. The man is a true gift.

The attack and cut off of notes isn't talked about enough. Crazy on You is a great example of this. It's tempting to play it with a bit of a bluesy Zep feel, yet his attack is right on the beat and would be the segue to bands like Def Leppard. Same with Barracuda, it's a much tighter strumming pattern than expected.
