So my guess is he had the squere on the back where teller was holding the card stuck somewhere els on the back cus its legos right so and since the selection was limited to most likely 1-5 he could have those numbers stuck to the back and the 4 suits stuck to the back also then when he revealed the portrait you can see hand movement behind it its possible he did some funny buisness then and then when he picked up the portrait he could have also ditched the selections in his jacket

10:01 If you look closely at the back you can see the spot right where the card is and it has gaps between the blocks right where it's located so he can load the card choice into it. 9:22 is when he loads it into the back. His jacket hanging in front to hide what he's doing from view. The card is on the inside of his jacket as you can see him reach for it and briefly check it's still there at 8:07 and 6:46 is where he loads it into his jacket. I'm guessing he had the 20 possible card combinations(4 suits and he asks teller to pick a number with his only free hand as his other hand is holding the card above his head, making it only 1-5 being possible thus making 20)premade in the back there and he picked the right one and put it in his jacket before Penn gets up there with him and hides the rest.

As an experienced magician, his canvas was made of something the audience believes they understand -- Lego. It is great cover for the back of the "canvas" having a bunch of separate pieces. People are much more amazed and entertained when something they think they understand is central to the act. Versus a complex black box of unknown components.

Jandro's act is a great example of misdirection, and demonstrating one of the downsides of being a Judge + Assistant at the same time. As Penn was walking up to the stage, Jandro "preps" the act by fumbling behind his table. During this prep he has picked up the card that Teller chose out of 20 choices (Ace to 5 times 4 suits = 20 cards). Penn never sees the back of the canvas during the act, but I suspect it had a gaping hope in the back to insert the panel and the chosen card. While they are carrying the canvas, Jandro has it angled so that Penn can't look behind it (telling Penn that it is "fragile", makes him more aware of carrying the canvas, and less about inspection), and he can insert the card and panel into the back to cover his tracks. This is also why it took awhile for Jandro to pry the card from the front of the canvas, making sure that the two pieces were stuck together properly so that they didn't come apart easily during inspection.

As for the beginning part, when he threw the legobricks at the canvas, it knocked the bricks off that were likely covering it. You can see this right when they do it because there are a lot more white pieces on the ground than anything else.

@borjagarciadelgado6445
@borjagarciadelgado6445 3 года назад
True. Throwing those bricks to the canvas had nothing to do with Teller's face on it. It was just part of the show. It was already there covered by white bricks. They just revealed it. But how did he put the two of diamonds in the back of that chunk of bricks? I don't know.
@davidpark737
@davidpark737 3 года назад
I think he had all the card lego pieces like Jason talked about hidden in the black desk thing, he has all the time it takes Penn to walk up to mess around under there. And the size of the card is like 2X2 of the lego pieces in the back of the canvas, so somehow he used the one hand holding up the canvas to put the face of the card through a perfectly sized hole in the back and them covered it up with the white bricks. The card looka like the face of the card couldve been put on separately too

step 1: you cant force a card on teller, so jandro had to prep for all possible cards. all possible lego cards were already prep and hidden under his desk. when he asked penn to come on stage, he was busy selecting the right lego card and hid it inside his jacket. step 2: the back of canvas has a hole for the chosen card to be inserted. nobody see this hole since the canvas has not yet been turned around at this point. and u cant see from the front because it has a layer of red bricks covering it. step 3: when everyone, including penn, got astonished and distracted by teller's face on the canvas, jandro pulled out his lego card from his jacket and pressed it into the hole in the back of canvas. u can see at 9:32 he has both hands pressing the card at both sides of canvas to make the lego stick. step 4: as for the magic of teller face suddenly appearing on canvas, someone in this comment section said there was a layer of loosely stuck white bricks covering teller's face underneath, and when the bricks from the buckets hit, the white layer simply peeled off, revealing the painting. i think the commenter got it right.

He used to play magic shows in a Spanish TV show called 'El Hormiguero' (originally Spanish, there is some other versions like in Mexico, himself and the El Hormiguero's producer has a very good friendship with Will Smith, so there even were some plans to export this format to the States). Now Jandro doesn't play magic there anymore but he has his own show in TVE (Spanish National Public Broadcast), it's called 'Mapi' and I don't think it's gonna be magic related but interesting enough though. In Spain we love him so much, it's clear he still keeps a child in his soul. He is so great.

Such a great trick! The portrait had an amazing effect on the audience and was completely unexpected. The trick with the card is literally impossible. The only possibility is the one you suggested, but that would be betting an enormous amount of effort on a very small chance that Teller would remember his previous card and choose to use that again. Crazy....

My theory- him and Penn playing with the bricks is when he loads Teller's selection. Every possible out is hidden beneath the table and you can see him digging around before Penn gets there. At this point he has taken a lego card which plugs into a hole in the back of the board (behind the red card piece we see on the front). When him and Penn go to lift the canvas (when he calls Teller up) he slides the lego card into his hand and plugs it into the back of the canvas. You can see him gripping the canvas around this area to secure it in place. The revealed card has a little lip on it for the screwdriver, which allows him to more easily separate it from the rest of the piece he loaded.
@nordicFries
@nordicFries 3 года назад
I think this is it. Very clever. But I think he loads the selection when he calls Penn up up. He is already under the table. Assuming that he assembles the card quickly under the table he only need 9 pieces. One of each suit and the value A-5. He smacks the chosen combination together on top of the main block and hides the rest and then, as you said, wait until he starts to lift the canvas with Penn to push the full block piece in to place. You can see that he secures it in place when he holds the canvas, and even more so when he flips it around.

I think we can make a good guess of how he did it. As for how he arranged Teller's selection. When he calls Penn on stage at 6:47, he is squatting behind the table. I think there he has 10 numbers (1-10) & 4 suits premade from legos. As soon he is out of view, he arranges Teller's selection on a mostly empty lego base and then disassembles the rest of the numbers/suits (like the numbers are black, so they go in black pile). This is also important because he doesn't allow picture cards as it'd be pretty tough to get arrange a picture card that quickly. He also places the arranged card in his jacket probably. All this in a span of 5 seconds is incredible. Once he has the lego card made, he then places it in the painting through a backdoor most probably, at 9:31 where he is hiding his hand quite unusually And the rest is all presentation. Nevertheless I had to watch 2-3 times before I could come up with a reasonable explanation so bravo! Very creative!

It's a fantastic performance, but the answer is: tech. The long arm on top of the canvas is a camera that recognizes the suit and the number Teller is holding (that's why Teller's participation matters). The throwing of bricks is to misdirect people's attention so they can't see the legos in the canvas being reconfigured (changing colors, like pixels in an image). Exact same thing happens in the "card" part of the lego - only it happens on both sides.

This is how I think this trick is done: The card is 2 layers, the red thin face is fixed in place, and a brick hole in the back to plug the selected card, there is a weird Lego pattern of 10*8... so in theory all the 40 card could be there in the top part, just need extra spacer white Lego on the back, go the the correct row&column, place the selected card, and replace the empty place with the blank piece, and tighten the layers together... the screwdriver is en illusion that it is hard to take apart the Lego, so the audience won't suspect he did just that in 5 seconds with his bare hands... All the magic is done at 9:30 and took 5 seconds by touching the back of the board... He switch blocks and he tighten the layers together at 9:35.

Superb Act, thanks for reaction! Jandro went behind the table when Penn entered the stage, maybe he could have picked a block with the right card (20 choices: 4 suits times 5 fingers) and put it in his jacket. When he took the painting from the stand, he maybe could have pressed that block in the painting from behind. BUT, Penn was very close at that moment, I can't really imagine how Jandro should have get the block out of his pocket and in the painting, without Penn noticing it. 🤔 Anyway, Jandro is very unique and funny.

I think this is exactly what happened. There was a gap in the back of the painting, right where the card was. He was able to slot the piece he retrieved from behind the table into the hole and push it into place. Yeah, it would have required some nice, up close sleight of hand.

@@brendanrichards3159 I came to the same conclusion. While all were fascinated by the great mosaic on the front, they didn't watch what was going on the back. Additional, why did they have to take the canvas from the stand? The only reason is, to do some slight of hand like putting in the card. Lego fans will notice, that the Lego card Teller is holding up has studs on both sides, except for a 1 stud rim on the back. When taking the canvas apart, I would imagine some kind of hinge for the back side, just like an old cassette recorder. Putt in the card, close the flap and let's get the magic happen. And yes Jason, you're right, Teller took the two of diamond also last year.

I think this is the only solution. On my first watch through I noticed at 8:08 it looks like he adjusts or catches something in his jacket. Must have picked it up when pulling lego out of the cart and then put it in when they picked it up off the easel. Looks like he’s putting pressure around it to push it in. I was completely lost during it though. Very well done

He could easily be stubborn and go all 5 fingers, pause then 2 fingers for (5+2) 7.... they've done counting above 5 by signals before, but Teller is a helpful gentleman, and wouldn't go for a "Ha, deal with this smarty" response.

@@paulcowen653 I wouldn't think so, but I can't say it isn't... He probably had time "Penn, look at the face" when his hand was near... but slipping that into place, (after finding the correct "sticker") while close enough that Penn could just peek over if he heard / felt something funny, would be Ballsy. He would need to open and then close the back (which was shown before he had the free time with his hand) and slap on the sticker, and then it would have to pass "inspection" as he leaves the "Card" in Tellers hand the entire time.

Okay Jason, starting at the end of your reaction, everything you did at the end with your wisdom nuggets was hilarious. All sizes of packages ARE great, and the doggagator sounds ridiculous...yet, I laughed out loud. Thanks. As for the performance. I've watched this performance at least half a dozen times, and the only thing that makes sense is your suggestion that Jandro already had the 2 of diamonds on the "canvas", and he didn't need to make any switches. Maybe his ending would have been adjusted if Teller had chosen another card. Yep, that's all I got...still no other ideas. Great reaction, Jason! Edit: I forgot to mention my favorite part of the face, too. I'm going with the left eyebrow....cuz why not. Every eyebrow needs a friend, and ole' righty would look really silly by himself.

2 thoughts - 1st, instead of 20 combinations, if he was able to do it in halves (1-5, Suits), he'd only have to be able to hide 9 panels on him. 2, The screwdriver - used to put things into place/solidly 'attach' the LEGOs in case he didn't get it right before then? (He wouldn't want P&T to see the LEGO card came in two pieces)

There's a video claiming that Jandro's first appearance on Fool Us was the fastest declaration of a fooler. Steven Brundage in season 2 was declared a fooler slightly faster than Jandro was. Jonathan Ross couldn't interview him either. They got up from the table and declared fooled. Richard Turner was also a fast winner and Alison couldn't interview him, either. Jandro certainly is a very friendly guy, and obviously a phenomenal magician.

He installed the number 2 on one of four preped lego card back plates when he ducked behind the counter. He only had to press in the small section where the number is located. The back plate goes into his pocket before Pen gets to the stage. The he presses the back plate with the preped card into the back of the picture as he invites teller up on stage. The reveal of the picture when the legos are thrown at the "canvas" should be obvious to everyone, they was a layer of white blocks covering the picture. Very crafty.

There is a couple of thoughts or theories I have. But lets look at the card itself. On a close up of the card it does look like the suit and the number are socketed pieces. Meaning that the suit can be plugged into a white card or even a number. with only 10 numbers there could actually be only ten cards with 4 suit pieces. There are three main moments that stick out. One is when Jandro is beneath the table gathering the legos, another he taps his jacket pocket oddly when he is mixing the legos, the third is he is touching the back side of the portrait at one point before it is turned around. There is a minor thing also of when the legos are thrown at the canvas. Pen is to one side and Jandro makes his throw concentrating on where the card will be. This might just be the trigger for the legos to fall off the canvas but it is something to note. My first theory is that while possibly under the table before Pen gets up there he pulls the 2 card and just inserts the suit needed. There is a moment when once the Teller canvas picture is revealed he has his hand behind the lego portrait. He could have simply placed it there. Or another variation is that the suit piece is simply layered and when he is prying the lego card away he just takes the proper layer with the suit. The other thought is with out being able to see just how thick the lego canvas is that there is either 4 suited cards with multiple layers of numbers. That perhaps there is more to the lego canvas than meets the eye when Tellers picture is revealed the card picture could appear in different positions along the bottom. Prying the card out is then just choosing the layer with the number. This is probably more complex of a trick than the first. Most likely wrong on all accounts but I do think something is up with the hand behind the portrait and the screw driver.

How I think it was done: At: 6:47 : I think he might have taken the correct LEGO card when stooping down to take all the bricks from the black box/table. Maybe there was a blank card and all the card symbols and numbers so he could make the card on the spot, because I can't imagine him having all 52 cards in there without Penn seeing them. From 6:56 up to 9:29: If you look at his right arm, he holds it very close to his body the whole time when taking the bricks up until Teller comes on stage, as if he is holding something under it. 9:31 : Then, when Teller comes on stage, he is probably inserting the card in the back of the canvas (you can just see his hand moving away from the spot behind the canvas). 10:27 : When you look at the close-ups of the LEGO card you can see it looks a bit like a case where something can be slid in. And by removing it with the screwdriver and holding it with his hands before giving it to teller he pushes it in further so it looks like it was fixed onto the card all along. Very good trick, as an AFOL I really admire the work he put in!

i'm guessing they cut the part of his act out when they were mixing up the lego, during that time if he had pieces of legos setup to be 1-10, and the 4 suits he could of possibly assembled them during that time into the finished lego card, using sleight of hand pushed it into place behind when he reaches his hand behind the picture after its revealed, than all he needs to do is pry out the card from the front. but that's just my guess
