“You are in charge of your own health.” You two inform, teach and empower that responsibility and turn it into a blessing and a pleasure. Otherwise, being in charge can be rather overwhelming. Talking with Docs makes RU-vid worthwhile.
Supplements taken daily: 1) Centrum Silver Multivitamin for Women 50+, 2) Magnesium Citrate Softgel 500 mg, 3) Vitamin D3 + K2 Softgel 125 mcg/100 mcg and 4) L-Arginine 1000-2000 mg. I have mentioned magnesium citrate on the previous video re: magnesium; this is the complete picture. Quite happy and content with the outcome and results. Otherwise on no prescriptions. Known medical conditions include spastic cerebral palsy (premature birth, but CP not diagnosed or treated until age 3) and surgically-induced lymphedema of bilateral lower extremities (since 1978). Two surgeries in total of BLE, 1971 and 1978. Blessed with good health with minor nuisances, all things considered.
The list : Magnesium Citrate - could help with constipation, i.e. could lead to diarrhea if overused. Magnesium Sulphate - just stay away for internal use - use to rub on muscles instead. Magnesium Glycinate - well tolerated by most people, combined with amino acid so highly bioavailable. Magnesium Tuarine - another linked with amino acid - help with metabolic syndrome...to be verified. Magnesium L Threonate - supposedly crosses the brain-blood barrier and can help relieve the mental conditions like lack of anxiety, sleep, depression, dementia. Supposedly. Magnesium Oxide - just avoid unless you really can't afford any of the others above. Magnesium chelate - could be either Glycinate or Tuarine or some other amino acid - the manufacturers are rather shy to make known just what is binding to the magnesium. Use as per the above with amino acid stuff.
I love the fact that you two are funny but also serious and very knowledgeable! I'm glad I found your channel. Keep up the good work guys and keep being you!
OMG you two crack me up!!!! I am surviving pancreatic cancer so I have had time to watch you...although, I just found out I have a partial rotator cuff tear (supraspinatous) and I have NEVER had shoulder pain before!!! YUCK!!!!!!!! I can barely sleep...anyways, I am over tired and babbling...I just wanted to say thank you for all of your time.AND HUMOR!!
I was a heavy drinker for 20 years and slowly but surly quit of the course of 3 months. I have been sober for 2 weeks and am on an extreme health adventure. Thanks for the info!!
Stay strong a preacher put his hand on my shoulder one day he ask me do you want to stop drinking tear come out I said yes I want to bad, he said short words, I not had a drink since 14 years sober. THANK YOU LORD. 😊
Love your videos. Minor correction regarding magnesium citrate. Citric acid does come from citrus fruit but nearly all (99%) is now manufactured from a process that uses a form of aspergillus niger (black mold). It's known as MCA or manufactured citric acid. Mold is filtered out but reactions that include muscle aches, joint pain, breathing problems etc. have been known to occur in response to MCA, but not to the citrus fruit form. Although reactions are rare it's something to consider, especially if you have issues with mold.
Same MCA so yes. Probably most are safe but would be careful about cheap supplements sourced from China, etc. since filtering processes there may not be ideal. Also would consider alternatives to citrates if you have a severe mold allergy. I have one so I avoid all citrates just to be on the safe side.
@@michaelhayes4759 thank you so much, that's good to know (am using Now Foods calcium citrate, seems like a good brand, but good to be aware, thanks) xxx
I take magnesium stearate. It has helped improve my mood. I’m 39 (woman) and noticed I’ve become highly irritated by everything. I’ve also noticed my “quiet” anxiety increasing. I can attest that this magnesium supplement has helped improve these problems of mine. I feel like a new person.
I have a request. in the future could you please consider making a video addressing how taking PPI's affect the body's ability to absorb certain supplements/nutrients? Thanks for all you do for us, Doctors.
They toxic.. ! 😢 We need ALL Vitamin B’s for our Stomach acid to Function… !!!!! ESPECIALLY that PPIS … Lower VITAMIN B 12 and One gets anaemia or low IRON . ZINC and other minerals are needed up or Increase our stomach acid especially as we AGE.. If our Minerals ie Manganese / Copper . Zinc ETC… etc.. are out of Balance OUR whole Digestion system is affected… Copper can either BE too low or Too HIGH.. Never add Copper.. unless tests are done.. never take more than 40/30 Mg of Zinc. Per night time.. ( not in the day) Always Check Vit D3 levels With Blood test. Never Stop taking D3 as it’s a Hormone.. and it’s a morning VITAMIN… Add Vitamin K2.. m7 or AND k2 Foods. GLUTATHIONE is involved in antioxidant process to prevent aging and CANCER. After age 50 we make less Glutathione!!!! From Our Food… So our Stomach Acid reduces… 😱 If we don’t eat, Fresh Greens, Salads. Herbs. Legumes/ Vegetables. Fruit/ and Protein daily this adds to lower stomach ACID! They lower Vitamin D . And CALCIUM levels, AND Vitamin C, then Causes Anaemia low Iron… and BONE density… Magnesium levels. Are lowered BY PPIS… One can feel Light headed or dizzy! We don’t make Vit B, C , D,E.. etc Most people need extra vitamins after Age 50-60.. Hope this helps… 🎉 It’s from memory..
Thank you for these details. I just started taking the citrate version. 400 mg. I just felt that at age 69 it would be a good idea to make sure I'm getting enough. Eating two smaller meals daily now I've been concerned about getting important nutrients. It's very helpful to know about different types and also whether different supplements should not be taken together. Love your channel! 🙂
Eat meat and eggs and save your money, don't buy the supplements. Well, I'd highly recommend Alpha GPC which will make your brain work better, better mental imagery and memory and verbal acuity. Way better than caffeine and without any jitters or anxiety! Go live life, friend.
Thanks Docs. I went on a long hike a few years ago - 800 kilometres across Spain. I ended up with very painful legs and a bad case of plantar fasciitis. When I got back, told my doc, she blurted "Magnesium!" (for the muscle pain). Next time I go on a long-distance hike I'll take Magnesium supplements to avoid muscle pain from temporary Magnesium shortage brought on by crazy over-exertion. Wish I'd known at the time.
Bro I love the Talking with Docs channels. Humor and banter goes a long way to keep us entertained and informed/educated. Thank you so much for the service you do Dr Zalzal and Dr. Weening
Love these guys. Their easy going banter makes their delivery fun. Very informative. Watched every day after knee replacement just for the encouragement.
Great video as always! I take mg glycinate every night to help me sleep and helps my muscles feel so much better. My muscle stiffness went away after I started taking 200 mg daily. I can't believe how much better I feel.
@@TalkingWithDocs I take magnesium Citrate have every night a,so take a Epsom salt bath.I have cervacle stenosis from falls I’ve had Which magnesium should it be. I heard this one so long ago can’t remember why that one.
I loved this. I take magnesium citrate when I need for severe muscle spasms , cramping. Your right it is a fine line of balance with gastric function. ❤
I was experiencing horrible morning leg cramps and I would've had *NO IDEA* that it was due to me suffering from a magnesium deficiency if I hadn't listened to a podcast on the subject. Once I started taking the daily recommended dose of magnesium glycinate for my gender and age group, like magic my cramps immediately went away and have stayed gone.
This is how it's done. You guys make learning fun, and down to earth. Thanks for making the world a better place. I take Magnesium Threonate, L-Theanine, and Apigenin as a trio for sleep. Works great! I would like to see you guys do a video on the synergistic effects of taking vitamins D3+K2 (MK-7). Lots of promising studies on this combo. Keep up the awesome videos!
Take the most recommended in America in all health food Co-ops of the U.S. Magnesium Oxide is a generic Ceramic causing the worse muscle Cramps breaking your muscle tissue and Causing Damage. Ceramic breaks easily? this Causes such deadly pain you can pass out.
I am so glad you did this follow-up video. I was unsure which was safest or had the best bioavailability, and you answered all of my questions. Thank you for taking the time out of your busy schedules to make these wonderfully educational videos. Y'all are the best ♥
You had me cracking up! Your banter is amazing! How did we know Dr Zalzal would talk about chicken wings! And how did we get to his bathroom with a bubble bath, candles and jazz music playing! Last time he accused Dr Weening of being a boomer and he's still on his case about being boring! But you did give us a nice list of magnesium to take. Even though you lost count and Dr Weening kept talking and tried to give us every magnesium on the planet! Did he mention the magnesium that appeared in the meteor that just landed on our planet? I really loved this episode because I'm a compulsive list maker! I was thrilled when Dr Weening snuck in more than your official list!😋 You two are a riot, you make learning so much fun! Now that you know I'm a compulsive list maker, you know I wrote all of them down! Although I only wrote 4 down and included the ones not to take. So I actually wrote down 5! Your lists are so thorough, better than any I have made! Once again you've come through and given the information we asked about! We've had a nice dose of chicken wings but learned they don't contain any magnesium! If only they did, Dr Z would be so happy, he would never need any supplements and live on just chicken wings! He would be smiling all the time!😁 But man cannot live on chicken wings alone, Dr W will gladly give you kale to balance your diet! 😉 Thanks for sharing another hilarious video and making our day! 👍
I take on a daily basis a 420 mg Magnesium-Oxide tablet, the Canadian brand Swiss Natural (go figure). I used to have cramps and charlie-horses, all went away after a few weeks of daily intake. Same with my neighbour, who had very severe leg cramps. His doctor approved and his cramps disappeared. After your video, I checked its composition. It is 420mg of magnesium-oxide, which is equivalent to 252mg of elemental magnesium. No idea what that means, but it works, which is what counts for me.
Great video with great info & awesome humor. I’ve been trying to find a magnesium supplement to take. I had taken Mylanta for indigestion, but found out the hard way about an unfortunate side effect. So your video has came at the perfect time for me. Thank you both, very much appreciated.
Oxide is just absorbed slowly so magnesium levels in blood don't skyrocket, as in case of citrate, but gradually increases. So taking oxide can be considered better option as you want to maintain stable upper levels and not acute attacks of Mg concentration in blood.
My cardiologist put me on mag oxide 400 mg a day for heart palps. I also take Zinc 50 mg a day. Is mag citrate good for the heart too? Which mag is best for heart? Thank u!
Was recently hospitalized for high blood pressure termed “resistant hypertension” as most drugs are not very effective and result in migraine headaches. Severe migraneur since age 5. Which type of magnesium do you recommend? Now I have wings on my brain … ! 😊 Thank you for the fun and informative videos!
They said Magnesium taurate. This is true, because in the last week, I've taken 400 mg of the taurate during the day, and the glycinate at night to help me sleep. I hadn't taken my BP med in a week because I wanted to see what would happen. It has been in the 120s over 84 or 85 consistently. I went for my annual women's wellness checkup 4 days ago, and it was 128/78. So it's definitely working for me!
Great information Doctors. I didn't know there were so many forms. I take glycinate. I believe taking the proper amount of glycinate is weight related. Thanks for sharing
I’ve never seen any information measuring how much you take by weight but by sex. Depending on if you’re a man or woman. There are different recommendations for both but not too far off.
Yeah, I take Magnesium Glycinate. It is SO expensive in the US. It would be nice if supplements were regulated by the FDA and covered by insurance. Big Pharma, however, would never allow that to happen.
I understand the cost are high my income is very low, Christ always supplies my needs. big pharma is not the answers for us. Nature grocers has often good sales, hope you have them where you love. 😊
I take a complex of Glycinate, Taurate and L-threonate. Magnesium Orotate is a great one as well, which I take every other day to switch from the aforementioned complex.
You got yourself another subscriber! I have 130+/90+ BP with 100+ pulse rate… I sometimes feel my heart palpitating and sometimes feel tired. I will purchase my first mag.glycinate and hopefully I see a big difference with my heart rate.
My use came from 5 yrs ago when I started developing drop in blood pressure when quickly getting up, over few months. My GP was concerned and ordered full Cardiologist workup, EKG, Echo-cardiogram, stress test,... Cardiologist found everything OK and advised that I may try taking Mg supplement, it may help. It helped indeed, when I went to the Doc' I was in the process of constructing pathway in backyard requiring a lot of kneel-down-stand-up work and I needed to stop it, dizziness was exhausting. After just few weeks on common Mg supplement, Mg Oxide from Sundown, 500mg/day those symptoms were gone and never came back(I keep taking it). I finished that project easily as in younger days. Hope this experience can help someone with similar issue.
I take glycinate and threonate. Those 2 together stop all muscle cramping and weirdness, I sleep better and my mind is calmer. I take it with D. It took me several years to find this successful combo for toe/foot/calf cramps.
I really like your videos. You explain things in a way that a lay person can understand. For some reason your videos only show up in my feed sporadically. I have to sometimes search for them. The algorithms used by social media are frustrating to say the least!
I don't mean to be a fussbudget, but I don't like the stock pictures either. I like to look at the cute docs the whole time. I'm glad that the whooshing noise is gone, though. Great info. Thx!💗
@@TalkingWithDocs You're welcome. I wanted to let you know just in case it's helpful or whatever. Videos are good either way, just expressing my preference. thx.
Honestly, you two are a match made in heaven... Two people whom are paired this great only come around every 76 years!! Or like Halley's comet, or like Laurel and Hardy. lol
I love that you guys are in Canada as well! I always advise that people do bloodwork before and during to make sure of the proper dose. As well they aren’t just making expensive urine when they are deficient😂they last 3 years I’ve been dealing with Neuroendocrine Cancer so I do have dangerous deficiencies. I take 6,000mg of Mg gluconate which would have disastrous side effects on a regular person. I’m regularly have my levels checked but it does shock doctors and pharmacists. Also my level of Potassium supplements would cause a cardiac event in an average healthy person. Do you also suggest patients get regular blood checks? Thanks, I really enjoy how your channel covers such a range of topics.
I was diagnosed with anxiety, anemic and it's probably why I feel tired all the time. I'm on xanax 0.25 but I only take a half before bed. I have problems with my blood pressure going up and down and everything hurts. I was also diagnosed with sciatica problems that's always causing me pain in my lower back. I'm a 65 year old female two disks fused together in my neck. My diet isn't always the best but it's hard trying to find out what type of multivitamin to take and I would love to try magnesium out but don't know which one is best for me along with vitamin D?
I found that magnesium greatly helps reduce restless leg syndrome. I use the oxide formula because that is what my store sells. I might search out another version just for comparison. But again, the oxide works a treat.
Great info! I've been taking the same Magnesium for 4 year's. Chelated Magnesium I used to have leg cramps and the plus was it helps to relax my anxiety. Is it okay to mix Chelated with Glycinate? magnesium
very informative 👏.. hope you could help im having a problem with my sleep, and im not a fan of taking supplements to be honest but i will try this one.. what type of magnesium should i take? thank you
@@TalkingWithDocs .That's excellent..we give our dog, Moringa capsules,Ashwaganda,Cucurmin.. Taking plain mag 200 mg in am. Thanks for video. I would be interested in a video on insulin resistance. I know...exercise and eat right...but your input would be appreciated.
@@kmkm8691 I can’t sleep without it now. The sleep is unmatched. I also travel for work and the time difference can make it tough to sleep so i really appreciate the magnesium!
Hi Sharon. It is very hard to test for as our first magnesium video talks about. 3/4 of people don’t get enough. Some people supplement and see if they feel better. Just start low dose
As a diabetic T2 I was wondering which Magnesium is likely to be more beneficial? I recently bought one called 'Magnesium High Strength' which includes Magnesium Citrate. I have arthritis and various aches and pains from a life of physicality. Thanks!
What's concerning to me about magnesium is that often doctors will take a blood test for magnesium, but they aren't taking the red blood cell test for magnesium, which is the test needed to see if you have a magnesium deficiency. Super annoying.
OK, A vision of Dr Paul Zalzal in a bath of magnesium sulphate, possibly bobbing on the surface, as he snacks on chicken wings is the beginning of the end! Like you videos? They are fantastic as well as very informative. Many thanks Drs Zalzal and Weening, you are just brilliant
I take Magnesium L-Threonate i take it if im stressed out or having a headache it works all the time. I also take Thiamine along with Magnesium as they work hand in hand just like the two doctors here😁
Given the different functions of each of these is it most beneficial to take a blend? Is that advisable or no? What quantity of each? Thinking of taking Therate and Glycinate
Magnesium Bisglycinate is the best. Has superior absorption with the least side effects. Take 2600mg to 3000mg of Magnesium Bisglycinate, which is around 400 elemental magnesium. Depends on the absorption rate. Don't take magnesium 5 in 1 or anything like that. Magnesium Bisglycinate is superior, and you should concentrate on taking it alone.
@@no22sill Magnesium glycinate is a compound where magnesium is bound to glycine, an amino acid, which enhances its absorption and reduces gastrointestinal discomfort. Magnesium bisglycinate is a specific form of magnesium glycinate where two glycine molecules are bound to one magnesium atom, improving stability and absorption. Both forms are well-absorbed, but bisglycinate may offer slightly better bioavailability.
How much potassium should you take? Is it like magnesium in that you increase dosage until some bad side effect happens? If so, what is that bad side effect?
Hi Jack. Potassium is very tightly regulated so it would be hard to take too much orally as you would just pee it out. Food has enough. Usually don’t need extra unless you are losing some for another reason
Yes mine is prescription and closely monitored with blood draws but if there’s a new pharmacists they ask me a lot of questions to make sure it’s the correct amount because medically I have to take an extremely high dosage.
For those who take a prescribed blood pressure medication known as an ACE Inhibitor it is contraindicated to supplement with potassium. Don't use salt substitutes either, as it can cause dangerously high potassium levels. I don't take an ACE inhibitor anymore. #ThankGoodness!
Currently on a combination of MagnesiumBisglycinaat and MagnesiumCitrate to help with my high muscle tension. On day 2 and I think it already does magic. Much calmer and more relaxed muscles. 😄
You guys are great! Thank you for your videos! Would I benefit from a multivitamin that has magnesium in it? Want to try for fibromyalgia like symptoms symptoms. Also, can you make a video about vitamin B1? Thank you.😊
Yes Multivitamins have magnesium but most dont have the daily requirements because if you are eating a healthy diet you get most of your mag from there...those of us that dont get it in our diet take a supplement IN ADDITION to a vitamin.
