Blue loctite, semi-permanent Red loctite is permanent, add a bit of heat (propane torch) will come apart Green loctite is used when you don’t ever want to take something apart or if you are gifting your enemy
For ease in cleaning away unwanted debris, place a HD ziploc type bag over the magnet and remove along with whatever when finished or before the bag has bit the dust so to speak... Some of the thinner tupperware type containers work just as well.
Love your advise on putting a plastic bottle top on the rope to the magnet but I have found a better way! Add a plastic funnel on the rope to the magnet and you have a stronger force against rocks and branches. As I found the plastic water bottles to weak on some areas or yokes.
Great advice, I’m waiting on my first magnet right now. Good to know about the smashing of fingers and stuff, with 6 kids I probably should keep it locked in my ammo can
#Aquachigger Something else to keep in mind with magnets...keep them away from all electrical outlets. If you're holding one and it gets close to an electric source, the magnet will draw the electricity and you WILL get hurt....or worse. For the same reason, never try to drill a hole in a magnet with a corded electric drill. My brother tried that when he was younger and got knocked across the room from the electric shock. He was lucky and just was dazed. It could have been a lot worse.
I live in England and on the same day a local was magnet fishing in the river by my house and in the morning (10am) he found a WW2 grenade. Had to call the Royal Navy bomb disposal out to make it safe. He went back about 6pm and found a handcuffed body of a guy who ran from police 3 months previous then was reported missing. Not seen the magnet fisher man for a while! But with a day like that I’m not surprised!
Interesting video. Pacemakers have an internal reed switch activated by magnetic fields. When the reed switch closes, the pacemaker goes into magnet mode which causes the pacemaker to pace without sensing for heartbeats. This is useful during medical procedures and surgeries where the procedure can interrupt pacing because the pacemaker misinterprets the procedure as heart activity. Magnet mode also tells Cardiologists the state of the battery by the way the pacing changes when the magnet is applied. I'm surprised the magnet manufacturer mentioned the power meter anomaly. It makes me think the warning is just another way to sell more magnets. I could be wrong.
Thanks Chigg, this was great. I had one of the larger ones and 2 weeks ago tossed it in the creek. The frame came out but only half of the magnet! Bummer. Got a new one, smaller and it attaches on the side so it lays flat on the bottom of the creekbed as it is being dragged. Really need some locktite on it! Thanks for the tips! Oh and now I need one for each meter at my house! LOL!!!!
to be honest it has been proven that lock washers ( split style ) are a joke. nord lock are proven lock washers. But you have Loctite® Threadlocker on it then its all golden
That’s a big 10-4. I work 98% of the time on certain equipment, they’ve been around for awhile, they’re stuff is yellow, and is not “Dog” lol. I haven’t come across any component that has a lock washer on it, from factory. Correct torque procedure and clean application of thread locking compound is standard. On the lighter side, I don’t believe “magnet fishing” has been researched yet. I have come across Nord-lock washers on two different brands of Scandinavian rock trucks and the washers work great. Cheers.
@@badgergearcompound738 Yep. Only place for those traditional lock washers are small applications where you cant use much torque or threadlocker, like a circuit board mounting or such
the bit about the meters is very true. ... the water department I worked at had a multiple customers doing this most of the month, and would remove it prior to the readings ... then a surprise inspection found the magnet in place .....but of course, the people were shocked and had no idea how it got there ... strange it never happened again .... love your vid's .... keep up the good work.
They recently forced a change across all the electrical counters in France, partly because some people had figured out that placing two magnets either side of the ones that all households had been used for decades, would actually stop the electrical disc that turns and increases the counter numbers.
You will like this Beau You were talking about it effecting meters. It reminded me of this. One of my friends went to England a long time ago. In one of the apartments they had. They had a coin operated electricity meter. So they made a couple of Plasticine molds either side of a piece of cardboard. They made coins in the freezer from ice. They were the same weight as the metal coins so they triggered the meter. then melted. LOL Nice magnets
Love the video. I watched your coverage on the olight seeker 2, and I already own an olight mini valkyrie for one of my pistols. I actually went to the link, and bought one because of your video. I wish you could've had an affiliate link for them so you could get a little kickback from it, but it looks good. Just waiting on the snail mail. Thanks for the videos, and love your work. (might have to get back into the magnet fishing up here on lake Erie. found a few odds and ends here off the docks, but nothing really notable. Always a blast with the friends though.
I own a few of the heavy duty magnets but I bought them from K&J Magnetics, they are great to deal with too. I was just going to say be VERY CAREFUL with these magnets. Even if your just getting them out of your gear bag, I’ve seen them stick to cars.....lol. They are fun, crazy and can be dangerous.....have fun👍👍👍
I picked up a 500 pound magnet earlier this year I have a 250 lb anvil in my garage and I put it on a chain block and lifted the Anvil no problem whatsoever problem was though I had to use a rubber mallet to get it off the Anvil those things are strong.👍👍🍁
Worked in public works water authority for 14 years, we were trained many years ago in revenue loss prevention classes to look for “magging meters” where people do exactly this. It is illegal and the municipality I work for as pursued charges in some cases.
Please! please! please! pay attention to the warnings about extra large magnets in this clip. I know someone who had half their hand crushed in a home-made magnetic can crusher.
Chigg, the part where you told us that you were called "Professor" by some in the Army, trust me, you're not the only one. There's a handful of people in my battalion who know me as "Professor." I, too, do not know why.
I knew that about magnets and meters. Many people years back were using them to slow, stop or run their electric and water meters backwards. In years past you could also pull the electric meter out and turn it upside down until the electric companies got smart and put rings with locks on them. If you want to know more about this just ask me👍
Think I used lock washers and smurf snot on mine from the first time you did a video on magnet fishing set ups. That's where I got the top of the plastic coke bottle on the line to keep from getting stuck on tree branches in the river.
Hey man thanks for the video cool information there thank you again you know what I would like you to try with those magnets sticking 2 your vehicle's frame and the other half to a tree see how well they really do stick I think that would be a pretty good video but if it doesn't come off then make sure you can slide it off
Yeah, magnets can stop or slow the meters- but in modern meters this will be detected when your electricity/water supplier engineer comes. Magnet doesn’t have to be there anymore, but they will see you played a dirty game.
PLEASE BE CAREFUL WITH PEOPLE WHO HAVE HAD REPLACEMENT SURGERIES!!! LIKE HIP, KNEE ETC. OR PEOPLE WITH RODS TO FIX BROKEN BONES. Most are surgical steal but some have pieces that can be affected by the magnet.
A few months back I bought my first double-sided magnet with a combined strength of 1800 lbs. It got stuck on three different pier pylons and because their sides were flat, it was quite a chore to remove it from them. The pulling strength really is awesome, but my left rib cage got hurt and am still dealing with the pain while attempting to retrieving it. Anyone who has one above 500 lbs be wary of it.
@Sally Ann It's a combined pulling strength. It would only be 900 lbs per side. Plus, it didn't occur to me how strong it could be when in contact with a flat surface. But no, I had no intentions of pulling something that heavy out of the water... only to ensure what was latched onto would not slip off so easily. That's all.
item #4 is legit. I work for a major utility company. The Revenue Protection group sees this all the time. We have smart meters now and I believe they'd pick up on it right away OR the magnet would ruin the meter and they'd have no power at all. Not sure which.
Hey Chigg, I heard that the iron in your blood can be attracted to the magnet through you hand, and all the blood that filters through you hand will be deprived of iron. I am not sure if that is true or how dangerous it might be, but I just thought I'd let you know.
Professor Chigg. I have a question. If I magnet fish the Willamette River and hook onto a car, will I lose my magnet? I don't think I will have a free car.
I know its not right but when i was young, and renting pay my own bills (hydro) I would slow it down with big speaker magnets, Had to be the biggest i could fined. And 100% is true it works. Remember I was young, lol
#Chigg, you mentioned that you would beusing the foam that the magnets came in and would show us how you did it. I missed finding that section, please tell me where to find it. Thanks
So I actually live in the Texas panhandle so it’s rather dry and very grasslands here. Does anybody live in a similar type environment that knows places you can go magnet fishing? Because I don’t have a lot of rivers or canals here.
