In this video I will show you my new favorite chronograph, the MagnetoSpeed Sporter! After shooting hundreds of rounds over it after filming the video I have found its consistency to be superb. For the price of $180 I think it is a great buy!

I always suspected I was not a good loader, now I just think I need a new chronograph. LOL Thanks for that man. Good review

Thanks for the review! Being eyeing the Magneto for a while and now that they came up with the Sporter and with the various mount kits out there I had to take the plunge and I’m feeling like I made a good purchase after watching this.

I agree with you Norris, I must not be a good loader either, that is why different powders and different loads have different standard deviation values, i mean you know sometimes i even get different results when it is hot outside vs cold outside. I hate to say this because it does color my initial reaction to a reviewer, but, I cant help but make a comment about using a bi-pod on a fold out table. I have one of these units, you need to keep a short stiff fiberglass rod in your kit. The baton is magnetic so a lot of cleaning rods will not work, slide this rod in your barrel so the rod is resting on the bottom of the lands of the barrel. Do this each time before you shoot a string to make sure you have proper clearance, Do not eyeball it. Also, the unit will make differences in point of aim and group sizes. Especially if it comes loose during a string. Yesterday I had a 0.25 moa group (3 rounds in a tight clover leaf at 100 yards) going and a flyer popped up, then another one, sure enough the baton had loosened up and slid down the barrel just a bit due to recoil and was vibrating during the shot causing harmonic disturbance. A loose baton will also cause deviations in velocity recordings. Depending upon the taper of the barrel you will need to shim the front of the cradle area to make sure you do not have too much angle. A business card cut in strips will allow you to do this well. Just keep a couple in your gear bag. Also important, do not let the strap slide up the barrel over the muzzle break, it will damage the clamp and strap system. Once you get your load data complete, be sure to soot some additional groups to ensure that your point of aim has not changed and that your groups are still the same. You can not beat the portability, if care is taken, you will not shoot it or hit it with a sabot from a black powder load, or have sunlight issues, you can use in on an indoor range, on pistols etc. So, lot's of advantages, even though I have rifles that will shoot sub 0.5 moa and my loads do that routinely, So, after 45 years of reloading, I really wish I knew what I was doing when it comes to loading. I just can't seem to get all the velocities to come out the same.

How did you change the setting to high one? This actually just append to me two days ago when I had two rifle out on the range and would not pick up the speeds of the one. I thought it may have been the muzzle brake

I just picked one of these up. Im certainly glad you have a barrel that is similar to mine in the "heavy" department , i needed that tid bit of info. What does the accuracy look like after having something strapped to your barrel? Probably not good but I guess accurate speeds are what we are measuring anyway.

To be honest I have never shot farther than 100 yards with the crono on there. But if I’m sighting in a new scope and getting speed at the same time, I feel comfortable adjusting the scope during those shots to get it close.

I'm very curious on why you double grip the rifle when you shoot instead of placing your nonfiring hand up under the stock to ensure it?

After doing a lot of long range shooting I have found that style gives me very good consistency and accuracy.

Why all the mention of the V3 in the comments ? This is a review of the “Sporter”

This tells you the velocity?
@rogueoutdoorshtkstw
@rogueoutdoorshtkstw 2 года назад
Yes, it tells you the velocity of the bullet as it leaves the barrel. Helps you to know how fast your bullet is going if you reload and how to adjust your scope for longer distance shots

I considered the magnetospeed v3 and nearly ordered one, but the more I thought about it, there are two big cons that kept me away from it: 1) You have to fiddle around changing it from one rifle to to another if/when you want to check velocities for more than one gun and 2) you pretty much have to waste ammo to get velocity data as having a mass hanging off the barrel will alter the gun's accuracy (forget shooting groups while it's hanging on your barrel). One of the big claims of those shilling it is that you don't have to fiddle around setting up a chrono in front of the firing line, or waiting until shooting is done to break it down. That's possibly valid at a very busy range, but if/when I'm done shooting, I just spend time packing everything else up and then I can take my chrono down at the next shooting break. Going to the range is a casual, relaxing thing for me to do, I'm generally in no hurry, so any wait time is not an issue for me. A second "advantage" they also claim is consistency as "regular" chronos have lighting issues. This is not the case with Caldwell G2 since if flips the sensor upside down and places it on top with its own built in lights on the bottom. Cloudy or sunny days are never an issue. It's a good product, don't get me wrong, but for me, the disadvantages don't outweigh the advantages.

Seems to me that all the chronos have a lot of disadvantages if you have to use public shooting ranges like I do and like you mentioned. And also anything clamped onto the barrel will affect the barrel harmonics. The Caldwell G2 sounds interesting.

I asked and they won't let me set my chrono up at the range because it takes too long. I'm considering one of these or the v3 because of that. I shoot nothing but hand loads so it's important to know what the velocity is.

Did I really witness no ear pro while firing a weapon with a muzzle brake? Must be young LEO policy.

I use no noise ear plugs when I shoot. They are always in my ears. If you look close you will see them, they are green. I did a review on them too. Thanks for trying to catch me though. Haha
