I honestly feel like John is the perfect bridge between Magnus and lower rated players. The way he explained to Magnus what lower rated players think of Qe8 was right on the money and I think Magnus didn’t understand that at first.
John is more mature than a lot of the other commentators. A lot of the others are kind of immature and annoying. I think my least favorite of all is Jan followed by Gotham. Howell is the other person I really enjoy for game narrations and analysis. Hikaru can also be interesting to listen to. He is such a machine and is fully capable of beating Carlsen. I kind of hope he wins the candidates tournament and beats Carlsen.
The biggest thing I got from this video is the difference between someone who has a lot of coaching and teaching experience vs someone who is the world champion. Magnus here really struggles to dumb things down and explain the smaller things that more basic players and viewers need to see and hear (like John explains about why Qe8 is temporary and has its plans). Magnus can show you moves but not explain how the moves and ideas tie in together. Just because your a fantastic player, does not mean you can be a good coach/teacher!
Watch naroditsky. I think he is the best GM chess teacher without BS if you are looking solely for knowledge without hype in between. If you’re looking for exciting teachers then Gotham.
Drawing arrows helps the viewer understand quicker, Hikaru sometimes speaks really fast and spits out 20 moves, but he draws arrow so the viewer can somewhat follow, but Magnus just saying the moves without expaining anything is just hard to track. Or maybe I just need to git gud.
To be fair with Magnus, he was not trying to coach anyone in this interview. He was more of making a conversation with an International Master and just gives his personal experiences and insights about this opening line. And this is just one video. In his coaching videos, it is clear that Magnus can coach very well.
@@pmq6645 No its not you and neither is it Magnus' fault. He is the world champion, I completely get if he expects people to just see the trivial (for him) things lol. Just saying its interesting to note the difference between certain content creators who understand what the average person needs to better comprehend and understand what he is talking about.
The sveshnikov is a sicilian that I use a lot, And although I don't know all of it, I was most of the games starting well in the opening when I had the chance to play it, now I'm sure this video will help me understand it better and learn more, thanks!
@@duskgleam4634 Taking the knight is a positional mistake, you can take advantage and punish them for it by retaking with bxc6 and preparing to create a large center with d5.
He's talking about angles of play and better positions in the the immediate opening. He says that when he first started, he really enjoyed opening with the Sicilian.
The lines ask for it. You see opposing lines and the math behind them. It would be better to think about it in a nonlinear way if the game isn't timed.
It's good white had to run the opening theory up until knight B4 quickly, at this stage it's crucial for white and does promise an attack. Which is the best way to attack blacks position might be Kasparov queen side castle variation much risk for black I suggest.
Hey Magnus!! I've been corresponding with your father and trying to plan a trip to Norway to watch a tournament, such as the Scavanger tournament this year, ... Are there ANY tournaments where you do a MEET AND GREET!!!!????
John literally mentiones why Nc7 is not possible... Please do not be shy to ask questions... but also take your time and actually listen to the video if your going to watch something. Dont just gloss over it and get nothing from it, then your just wasting your own time.
After Nc7 Qe7 if Nxra8 Bxra4 Qxa4 RxNa8 Bd5 solidifying bishop on the diagonal and threatening Ra8 simply Ra7 equalised the game but still in this position white looks better in terms of position
Its nice because Sveshnikov is not only good but it is also the easiest Sicilian theoretically. My coach picked this opening for me and I like it a lot.
Hey Magnus! Poker master Daniel Negreanu made a review video about you're poker play at his own channel: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-FY1W6oUyu10.html I think that it would be amazing if you two could do some videos together. Like first play some poker and then some chess. This would be a blast for all poker and chess fans and so on 😊
honestly what was the point of this video? you didn’t analyze a game you didn’t really analyze the position and you barely analyzed a single move. I don’t think anything of any substance at all was said except that the position is equal, its complicated and you won the game.
I greatly admire Carlsen and his game but have forgotten that no player can be bigger than the game. Too much arrogance. Luckily the new generation is already making him bite the dust.
