@@couldntcareless7884 depends on where the pawn and the knights is, this could be easier or harder than bishop and knight versus king or impossible because of 50 moves rule which is extremely rare, typically harder. Queen versus rook and queen versus 2 bishops is also really hard
8:30 "How do you add pressure on the piece that is pinned?" Me: B5! GothamChess: "You play B5" Me: YES! I am getting better at chess! GothamChess: Except B5 is a losing blunder. *𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗿𝗲𝘀 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗼 𝗺𝘆 𝘀𝗵𝗮𝗺𝗲𝗱 𝘀𝗼𝘂𝗹*
It's ok ... you probably rushed to answer while if it was you playing I'm sure you could've saw it and played a better move my friend... don't doubt yourself I think watching the video and trying to call the moves will add to your already increasing talent
I am convinced now. Gotham is a vampire, there's no way he can upload such quality content so consistently while also eating and sleeping. Top notch dedication man
I love when Levy says "And Magnus says 'Even though all I need is a draw, I'm not interested in a making draw, I'm interested in making the best move in the position.'" I feel like Magnus actually doesn't even know the score board. If he has an advantage, he will play for a win. He doesn't just want to win the event, he wants to take your soul if he can.
It's not about people not trying to win, they Just try not to lose and if they're sure they are better then they push for a win. Magnus is the best in endgames, so He wins these most often, but the others are trying to win too, they Just aren't so good
It would actually kinda suck if it ended up being Magnus vs Ian. There's a good chance they'd play incredibly bland and boring chess to not give anything away. It would be like a week 17 match-up in the NFL between two teams that already clinched playoff spots against each other. Super boring and conservative play that doesn't give away their real game plans.
Nepo is so ridiculously clutch, man was casually sipping on his drink while Fabiano was desperately trying to survive the blitz game. RIP Fabi, you fought well.
@@davidgunawan5778 a very resourceful guy. It was not losing but it could have been a draw if fabi played very precisely. Nepo would be the one pushing for victory even in that scenario.
I watched the first game before school and was rooting for Magnus, it was definitely a rollercoaster, but at some point it became one sided and I had to go
Levy, I want you to know that your videos are a gem. I'm from Europe, so I can watch them every night right before I go to sleep, and the way you do these recaps, so calm but so exciting at the same time really makes it perfect to end the day for me. Everytime there is a new tournament I am honestly more hyped about your recaps than the tournament themselves. Thank you for that awesome 30 minute moment everyday
@Lucas Roberts It's so weird how he can get a good advantage vs Magnus but then mess it up. I think it's psychological. And while Magnus should have a better record vs him, holding a higher elo, I think their actual tournament record is worse than one would expect for Nakamura. Just look at this one: he blundered during tie breaks (literally just hung a bishop), and during one of the rounds Magnus needed to win but Hikaru pulled off this neat knight sacrifice which gave him a good advantage, and if he would have won, he would have won the whole round. But he still messed it up and Magnus ended up winning anyway. His record vs Magnus stays pretty bad, with Hikaru eliminating Magnus only rarely. He may think it's playstyle but I think Hikaru would really benefit from some serious but casual (ie not in a tourney) games vs Carlsen.
@Lucas Roberts I recall watching it rather live. He had a good advantage after his knight sacrifice, but then lost the game after messing up. In blitz (I didn't watch that one live) he literally hung a bishop...don't get me wrong, all this means Magnus outplayed him of course.
It always feels like whenever Hikaru plays Magnus they go neck and neck for the entire thing and in the end Hikaru is just very slighlty worse, which makes him lose. Magnus is world champion after all, but man that must be frustrating. They were very equal the entire matchup but Magnus just seems unbreakable and always keeps his cool in the final stage.
I feel like Magnus fucks around with these tournaments and plays crazy shit until he goes against someone like Nakamura. Then he exploits the players weakness. In this case: Hikaru has never been great at prep and isnt used to playing weird sidelines that are actually okay because he doesn’t play as many SGM tourneys anymore. Carlsen knows this and goes after him when it matters
@@manangupta1902 tbh magnus isn't even in his best form as he is preparing for candidates not mention if this was magnus from a few yrs ago this would have ended way sooner
Damn, that second game in Hikaru-Magnus day two match was impressive! It’s like Magnus went into a super demon from hell mode after he lost the first game with white. Your commentary, by the way, is brilliant! Лучший шахматный канал на Ютюбе!
Being Non Indian, Collecting Fund for Covid releive In "INDIA", So great of you. You do not leave for the country, You live for the Humanity ❤️🙂 Thank you.
Such an incredible first round! I love the way Hikaru and Magnus went blow for blow like that. Just two Super Grandmasters fighting to the bitter end. Each win forcing the other to push harder the next game. Then the Blitz rounds showcased the brutality of Magnus and his ability to shut the opponent down completely. For a while, I was cheering for Hikaru, but damn, the Champ really held everything. Giri/Radjabov was a bit disappointing, but then again, I didn't want either one to get knocked out. MVL/So was kind of wacky to me. And then there's Fabi/Ian. Had my heart crack a bit during that French endgame. Now, for the semi's and finals, honestly, I don't want Ian vs Carlson. We will get plenty of them later this year, and I don't think either one wants to spoil their prep prematurely. Even then, it would still be the most hype outcome of the players left, IMO. Anyway, you're doing awesome at commentary and content, Levy.
Basically, for Magnus to win this tournament, he needs Wesley So to lose. For some reason, he’s done poorly in head-to-head against Wesley when it comes to after the prelims
i was in live and i have no idea how you have all this energy to commentate te matches and after that to recap all of this on yt. Love you from Italy Levy
Imagine winning the preliminaries just to get knocked out from the quarter finals. hard luck for fabi i mean of all people number 8 had to be ian talk about bad luck
Been watching your videos for months now levy, love the daily content and good commentary. Keep it up, you renewed my love for chess after many years of not playing!
Fun facts: Levy was wearing a banana shirt during the commentary. Levy changed a charity goal to $420,069 Levy wanted to get food, so he made a poll on stream and it was a perfect 50/50 between pizza and burrito The stream was spamming BIGFROG Hikaru joined the commentary after his games It was beautiful, thank you Levy and anna
That 1st Blitz between Naka and Karlsen had almost the same type of end game moves as in the Guess the Elo episode. That bishop maneuver and sacrificing other bishop for a knight to remove the guard of the h7, is the same as in that episode.
